One of the routes from the 'door world' (the area with the 4, 8 & 16 cube blocked doors) leads to the following location via the first Warp Gate area:
This small level features a number of bouncing ledges, which lead you very quickly to an easily seen treasure chest. The chest contains the Writing Cube artefact.

I still don't know how to get to that area though. I've gotten to the waterfall area that's right underneath it (via the map).

Blue Sky Zone, Waterfall screen
The first zone you should enter, rotate the screen until you find an exit leading you to the crying waterfall screen. Above the waterfall face is a tree which will take you to an off-shot room. In this room will be sparse but a solitary cube bit, some Fezian writing, and a chest that you can ascend to by navigating the mushrooms and rotating. The chest is what will contain the Writing Cube artifact, used in the past by the citizens of Zu for writing.

To find the Writing Cube artifact, you'll need to enter the Crying Waterfall area and enter the tree above. The Writing Cube artifact will be at the very top of the area inside a chest.
