How to unlock the All's Well That Ends Well achievement in FINAL FANTASY IX - Definitive Guide

This will probably be obvious to most people but this achievement will pop after the credits have rolled, having finished the story of Final Fantasy IX.

At this point you are given the opportunity of turning around or making final preparations before taking a couple of steps forward - locking you into concluding the final events and sequences of the game.

There is a save point in the prior screen that you will be able to return to and will provide you with an opportunity to teleport back to the entrance of the dungeon should you wish to mop up achievements before progressing.

This trophy unlocks after you beat the the final boss of the game, Necron.

Preparation:

I recommend a Freya/Eiko/Amarant/Quina party provided they are all leveled (atleast 60+) sufficiently and have their ultimate weapons and good gear. Necron relies heavily on status attacks so the strategy is a bit more defensive than usual. Put all magic stones into status defenses followed by Auto abilities especially Auto Life, Auto Regen, and Auto Haste. Physical attack characters should also equip Bird Killer if possible. Use equipment that grants protection against Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Holy. Once you leave the menu the fight will start.

Battle:

This fight is actually one of the most difficult in the game. Necron's damage isn't the biggest problem but his status attacks are.

Necron Attacks:

It is able to cast Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga to your whole party or single target, as well as Flare and Holy, which are stronger, to single targets. Meteor is a pain as it can wipe you off the board if you have bad luck, and it's multi-target. Protect and Shell protect Necron against physicals and magic respectively, while Curaga restores its HP. Then there's Blue Shockwave, an attack that reduces one character's HP to 1. Neutron Ring deals heavy physical damage to all characters, which can be reduced by Protect status or using good armors. While all of this is reasonably solid, the real killer, and Necron's signature attack, is Grand Cross. Grand Cross targets your entire party and can inflict Berserk, Confuse, Darkness, Doom, Freeze, Heat, KO, Mini, Petrify, Poison, Silence, Sleep, Slow, Stop, Trouble, and Zombie in addition to reducing HP to between 1 and 10 (see why I recommended status protections?). Each of these effects is calculated separately for each character and effect, and will fail if you have immunity, so you may end up with all of the statuses being set, only some of them, or none at all.

Strategy:

The primary issue in this battle is dealing with Grand Cross. If you can do that, you're in decent position to win. Angel's Snack is arguably one of the best ways to do that it uses a Remedy on all party members which quickly cures many ailments. However it does not cure Zombie status. This will make healing a royal pain, since any curatives will deal damage and revivals will miss while Zombie is active, plus it resets the Trance gauge to zero and Angel's Snack/Remedy/Esuna won't heal it (you need to use a Magic Tag). Move fast after a Grand Cross attack; a multi-target elemental or, worse, Meteor or Neutron Ring, can spell doom if you've just been hit by Grand Cross. Luckily, it can't do consecutive Grand Crosses, so heal quickly and continue fighting. Its other attacks are strong but nowhere near as dangerous, so keep your healer on standby and Curaga/Elixir/Full-Life/Phoenix anyone hit. Mighty Guard is also highly useful for reducing damage taken on your party, while Slow on Necron can help give you some breathing room. If you're using Freya, she may evade some of the dangerous stuff by being in the air when it's used. On the offensive side, throw everything you have at this guy. You can Throw unused high-level weapons for massive damage (remember that you're past the point of no return, and you can't save after this), and Dark Matter is a guaranteed 9,999 damage. MP is no object either (you should have plenty of Elixirs if you run low on MP, to say nothing of Ethers), and Necron defends no elements besides Earth, so Ark/Doomsday/Shock/Holy/No Mercy/etc. away.

You can also make the final boss a joke by using the 9,999 and Battle Assistance boosters.

Once you have defeated Necron, watch the ending cutscenes to Final Fantasy IX. You will obtain this trophy after the credits.

Story related, can't be missed.

You will obtain this trophy when you beat the final boss of the game, Necron. After you've navigated your way through Memoria and have defeated Maliris, Tiamat, Kraken and Lich, you will find yourself in the Crystal World. At the end of Crystal World awaits Kuja, who sends Deathguise to battle you.

Once you've defeated Deathguise, you will need to face Trance Kuja himself. At this point, you can return to a save point and save before the final confrontation with Kuja himself.

The battle against Trance Kuja can be dangerous if you are not prepared. To start, make sure your characters are all equipped with the Auto-Life and Auto-Regen abilities and Auto-Haste is recommended as well. Casting Reflect or equipping Auto-Reflect is not recommended because Trance Kuja's Flare and Holy spells can penetrate Reflect and you will not be able to cast curative magic on your party. Trance Kuja is also able to cast Flare Star, which deals damage equal to the target's level multiplied by 35 and the lower his health, the more frequently he will use it. Finally, Trance Kuja is able to heal himself with Curaga.

Because this is the penultimate battle, do not be afraid to go all out and use any consumable items you have been stockpiling. Quina is useful in this battle for its Auto-Life and Mighty Guard spells and can deal serious damage with Frog Drop when not casting support magic, especially if you have collected 99 frogs. Otherwise, Dagger or Eiko provide great support.

Once Trance Kuja is defeated, you will face the final boss of the game, Necron. Necron has many nasty tricks up its sleeve. It is able to cast Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga to your whole party, as well as Flare and Holy to single targets. It can also use a devastating attack to your whole party called Neutron Ring or use Blue Shockwave to reduce a single character's HP down to 1. On top of this, it is able to use Grand Cross, which can inflict almost every status ailment in the game so be sure that you have all ailment preventing abilities equipped on your whole party. Finally, Necron can cast Protect and Shell on itself and heal itself with Curaga.

Just like in the previous battle with Trance Kuja, now is the time to go all out. Quina, again, is useful in this battle due to its Auto-Life and Might Guard spells and Angel's Snack is a great way to heal status ailments for characters who have been hit by Grand Cross. If you are using Amarant, don't be afraid to throw your strongest weapons. Quina's Frog Drop, Steiner's Climhazzard, Freya’s Dragon Crest and Zidane's Thievery are all great attacks to use against Necron. If you've made it this far, then you should be able to know what to at this point. Keep yourself healed and buffed at all times and you should prevail over Necron easily.

Of course, you can trivialise the final bosses by using the 9,999 and Battle Assistance boosters.

Once you have defeated Necron, enjoy the ending to Final Fantasy IX. You will obtain this trophy after the credits roll.
