How to unlock the See the Light achievement in FINAL FANTASY VII - Definitive Guide
This is a Missable achievement. Do this before going to the Temple of the Ancients, because after this part Aeris will leave your group and you will not be able to make her learn the Limit Break. This achievement can only be obtained when Aeris LEARN the Limit Break.
1) Learn all the Limit Breaks of Aeris up to Level 3 before going to the Temple of the Ancients. This can easily be done on the first Disc (First part of the game).
2) Once you get the Tiny Bronco, go back to Nibelheim where the buggy was left, then take the buggy all the way to Costa del Sol (enter Costa del Sol with the Buggy) where you can pay 100 gil to get on the cargo ship. Once the ship was taken to Junon, you can take the Air Taxi out of Junon by asking the guy in white sailor outfit outside the cargo ship area and then you'll end up on the world map, with the Buggy.
3) Now go to the Sleeping Old Man who is found in a cave directly east of Junon. According to @TheGreatKoala he doesn't show up until you complete Rocket Town. You will need to cross the river by using the buggy in order to reach him. He'll say how many times you've fought, he'll mention something about Huge Materia, he'll say how many times you've escaped. But he will only wake up and give you some Mythril when the last two digits of the numbers of battles you have fought are the same. If he gives you the Bolt Ring, come out and fight until the last two digits become the same again, talk to him again and he will give you some Mythril.
4) Once you've all the Limit Breaks of Aeris up to Level 3 and the Mythril, take the buggy (or Tiny Bronco) over to the weapon seller, who lives in a house right across the river from the Gold Saucer. You can not miss it. Talk to him, choose the third option, give him the Mythril and he'll let you open one of his two boxes. The large box contains just a regular item, so DO NOT OPEN IT! There is a small box on the second floor which is attached to the wall. In it, you'll find Aeris' Limit Break Level 4 Great Gospel.
But I have a question.
At what point is the guy available in the house...?
I have just done Cosmo Canyon and have the required items and limit break levels, but the house is empty and it boots me out.
Might be worth adding this to the guide as an update.
1) Get the "Great Gospel" item through a small quest.
2) Obtain all of Aeris's other Limit Breaks through combat.
I will be going over the second requirement, as WayzoftheRaven's guide for the item you need is good. If you are looking for the item Great Gopel itself, check out their guide! If you are wondering how to level up Limit Breaks, this is for you!
As this achievement is missable, I chose to do this immediately after the events in Rocket Town. You must do this before going in Temple of the Ancients.
Here is a general sense of what you need to do to get Aeris's other Limit Breaks:
Level 1
1a) Healing Wind- You start with this.
1b) Seal Evil- Use Healing Wind 8 times.
Level 2
2a) Breath of the Earth- Defeat 80 enemies with Aeris.
2b) Fury Brand- Use Breath of the Earth 6 times.
Level 3
3a) Planet Protector- Defeat 160 enemies with Aeris.
3b) Pulse of Life- Use Planet Protector 5 times.
You can set the level of a Limit Break in the "Limit" menu. You can only use the Limit Breaks in the Level you set, so keep that in mind. That being said, you can change back and forth whenever you'd like, but it does reset your Limit meter.
Apparently, you do not need to get the second Limit Break in a Level to advance to the next. So, to get "Breath of the Earth", you don't have to use "Healing Wind" 8 times, just defeat 80 enemies. Seeing as how you need all of her Limit Breaks anyway, I would just get the 2nd Limit in each Level before working on the enemy defeats again.
For enemy defeats, just go to an area where you can one shot enemies. Aeris must get the killing blow, so just have your other party members defend if it's not her turn. If you have any moves that hit all of the enemies (such as the Shiva summon, earned through the story), use those. You don't have to do this though; I just used basic attacks to defeat everything. I would use the "x3 speed" cheat by pressing the Left Stick so this doesn't take as long.
"Using a Limit Break X amount of times" can be somewhat tricky, depending on what level you are. You can fill the Limit Meter by taking damage in combat. A great way to do this is to give Aeris the "Cover" materia, which can be found in the garden by Aeris's house. You can also buy it in Sector 6's Wall Market if you didn't pick it up while you were in the garden. Once you have this, use a "Hyper" item (found in most item shops); this gives Aeris the "Fury" status, which doubles the rate at which a character obtains their limit meter. Now, go find a group of enemies that do a good amount of damage to you. I was ~Level 30 when I did this, and I searched outside Rocket Town until I found a group of 3 of the "wolf" enemies. Use the "x3 speed" cheat again and let the limit meter fill up, healing as needed. Keep using the Limit Break you need as you get it and it's possible to get all of the uses done in 1 battle!
NOTE: If you don't feel like doing ANY of the above for "using Limit Breaks X amount of times", you can also just press the right stick to get instant Limit Breaks. While you could do this if you want, I find it not as fun to do, so I did a bit of grinding.
I hope this clarifies a few things!
To then get the manual for Great Gospel, you need to speak to the sleeping man in a cave near Junon, who will tell you how many battles you’ve been in. When the number end in two odd numbers, ie 311, 433 etc, he will give you a piece of Mythril, which can be traded for Great Gospel with the blacksmith east of Gongaga. When asked which box, you want to choose the small one.
You can do this after the Coral Desert prison by using the buggy, going to the Costa de Sol and getting the boat to Junon.
The Mythril Caves are located between Midgar Zolom's sands past the Chocobo Farm. You should find them if you're following BaseballFuryMav's solution, near Fort Condor and towards the mountains. By now you should have all playable characters unlocked and few Level 4 Limit Breaks available for unlocking like Yuffie's "All Creation," Red XIII's "Cosmo Memory," Cait Sith's "Slots," and Aerith's "Great Gospel."
Entering the Mythril Caves from Fort Condor you'll want to turn left into the next cave section that has a climbable vine that had a materia to pick up on your last visit. This smaller section has a platform you can run in circles with the characters you want to unlock their limit breaks and this is where you want to farm.
Keep in mind each limit break class unlocks based on two things: the first limit unlock on every Limit Level happens after using your character's limit break 8 times; the second limit unlock happens after that specific character kills 80 enemies. You'll need to get each character's two Level 3 Limit Breaks so all you'll need is to own/obtain their Level 4 Limit Break.
The Mythril Caves area I'm describing has a minimum of 4 enemies per battle and using 3x and Limit Break cheats you'll have every characters limit break available for unlock within one hour at most.
MISSABLE
You must obtain Aeris’ final Limit Break, Great Gospel, in order to obtain this trophy, and this task must be done before completing the Temple of the Ancients towards the end of Part 1. The first step towards getting this Limit Break is to first learn all of Aeris’ level 1, 2 and 3 Limit Breaks. This can quickly be grinded out by giving Aeris some high level Magic Materia linked with All Materia to grind out enemy kills, and inflicting Fury on her by using a Hyper item to double the rate the Limit gauge fills up. Turbo Mode cuts the amount of grinding enemy kills by a significant amount and God Mode allows you to use Limit Breaks in quick succession.
Once you have obtained the Tiny Bronco, return to Nibelheim and enter the buggy. Ride the buggy to Costa del Sol and enter it in the buggy. Pay 100 gil to travel to Junon in the cargo ship. Using your buggy, travel to a cave directly east of Junon by crossing the river.
The location of the cave where the sleeping old man can be found.
Speak to the old man in the cave, and he will tell you some random statistics about your game. Most importantly, he will tell you how many battles you have participated in. The old man will wake up and give you Mythril if the last two digits of the number of battles you’ve participated in are the same and are odd numbers – for example, 133 battles, 377 battles, 211 battles, and so on. Exit the cave and engage in a few battles until the final two digits are the same if need be. Take the buggy back to Costa del Sol using the cargo ship, and enter the weapon seller’s house, located across the river from the Gold Saucer.
The location of the weapon seller’s house.
Speak to the man, and give him the Mythril. He will then give you the choice of opening one of two chests – a large one or a small one. Open the small box and inside will be the Great Gospel Limit Break. Teach it to Aeris and you will obtain this trophy.
The Great Gospel Limit Break is located in the small box on the second floor.
This achievement is missable. Aeris's Level 4 Limited Break Great Gospel must be obtained and learned before entering the Ancient Temple at the end of Disc 1. When you are at this point of the story, instead of going to the Temple, return to Nibelheim and use the Buggy to travel to Costal del Sol and pay to take a ship to Junon. The Buggy will appear outside of town, so use that to travel east across a river to find a small cave.
Speak to the old man inside the cave until he tells you how many battles you've participated in. You want this number to end in a set of the same two odd numbers (so 11, 33, 55, 77, or 99). If it didn't match right away, head outside and fight however many times you need, then return. He will give you a Mythril item.
Now we need to use the Buggy find the man who lives in a small house on a cape SE of the Gold Saucer (take the ship back from Junon to Costa del Sol first). Once inside, trade the Mythril for the chance to open one of the chests in his house. Be sure to open the smaller one upstairs to obtain the right item.
See here for pictures of the cave, house on the cape, and the box you want to open.
Note: You must learn all of Aeris's Level 1-3 Limit Breaks before you can use the item that teaches her Level 4 skill. See here for how to unlock Aeris's Limit Breaks.

To get the Great Gospel, you need to talk to the sleeping old man living in a cave near Junon in the southeast of Midgar. You need to go to it when the number of your battles ends in two identical numbers. He can give you Mythril or Bolt Ring. If he gave
Bolt Rings, then go to it again when the number of battles completed ends with two more identical numbers. After receiving the Mythril, go to the guy living in the hut between Gold Saucer and Gongaga and give him this item. The small chest will now contain a level 4 Ultimate Strike for Aerith.
Here is a link to the requirements for opening the limit for Aerith and all other characters.
