How to unlock the Won't You be My Valentine? achievement in FINAL FANTASY VII - Definitive Guide

This guy can be missed kinda but also you can go back for him at any time.

He is in the basement of The Shinra Mansion, which is in Clouds hometown.

To get him you need to go to the mansion, then up the stairs and to the left, you will see a big safe in the top room. Enter the combination of:

Right 36
Left 10
Right 59
Right 97

This will trigger a boss fight against Lost number, he's not really a difficult fight, my team were all late level 20's. A useful tip IMO is he can be poisoned. Also after the fight don't forget to pick up the Odin Materia and key.

In the basement, open the door with the key and then his coffin, tell him about Sephiroth, he will then go back in his coffin. Talk to him again, he will then again go back into his coffin. As you leave he will come after you :)

This can not be done during the flash back, has to be after!!

Alright Pris, you can’t go pass the numbers, I stoped just before them and then slowly went to the number. If you go past it resets the combination. Hope that helps for you.

vincent is unmissable. you have to make the safe inputs PRECISE you cannot "overturn" the numbers and go back. You have unlimited trys to open it.

You can also add to your solution that the boss battle gives you Red XIII final limit Cosmo Memory.

It would help to say you need to press A (the confirm button) after each number

Someone said he is unmissable however I am well past this point in the game so it looks like it definitely is missable.

A little more advice with the "Lost Number" boss fight, high level characters are helpful but don't use physical attacks on it if you can help it, because if you use physical attacks then it will change to purple when it is nearer death and that results in more powerful attacks being done against your team.
If you use magic only then you will get the red/orange form instead which is the less deadly form, this is when you can start using physical attacks instead.
The boss fight is still hard of course even doing it this way, keep on top of the healing but this is an easier way I found.

- NOT MISSABLE -

Vincent can be recruited during the party’s first visit to Nibelheim (and afterwards at any time), not the past/flashback versions with Cloud though!

Enter the mansion and go to the NORTH-WEST room where you can find a safe. When you try to open it you only have twenty seconds to input the combination (a countdown starts at the top-left corner).

The combination is: right to 36, left to 10, right to 59, right to 97. Upon inputting the correct code, the safe opens, revealing a mini-boss called Lost Number.

Defeat it and receive the Odin Materia and the Cosmo Memory Limit Break manual (Red XIII's ultimate Limit Break LV4). Inspecting the safe a second time will yield you a Basement Key. Take this Basement Key to the basement (enter through the NORTH-EAST hidden entrance) and halfway through the hallway, open the locked door. Approach the coffin in the middle of the room and speak to Vincent. Continue the conversation, tell him about Sephiroth, ask him who he is, and when you leave the room and re-enter the hallway, he will approach Cloud and join the party.

Hope this helps!

Let me know if I need to adjust the solution. wave

Vincent is the second and final optional character that can be recruited. Your first chance to get him will be in the Shinra Mansion (Page 18 of the Jegged walkthrough), and involves solving some riddles to open a locked safe. Alternatively, you can just use the combination (it's always the same) and then speak to Vincent to recruit him. Follow this guide for how to open the safe (which will also have the item needed for "A Universe of Pain") and where to find Vincent afterward. You can return to this location later in the game if you don't recruit him when the story takes you here, but you may as well do it right away (and it is marked in the main walkthrough to remind you).

In the basement behind the locked door of the Shinra mansion in Nibelheim, Vincent sleeps in a coffin. Letters scattered around the house mention a safe and contain clues to the code. There are 4 tips in total:

1. In the chest on the second floor (right 36).
2. In the large room, in the far right corner of the first floor of the mansion, behind the piano (left 10).
3. Chair on the second floor. Opposite it is a secret passage (right 59).
4. Written in invisible ink on a letter (right 97).

Go to the safe on the second floor. The safe must be opened within 20 seconds without ever missing the correct number. After this, you will have to fight the boss.

LOST NUMBER - The boss has a very powerful attack, both physical and magical. It's a good idea to use "Time + All" from the start. Also use "Paralysis" and "Stop". Start with the "Choco/Mog" attack and attack with Iris's limit "Seal Evil". Then cast “Haste” on yourself and hit the boss with simple physical attacks. After some time, the boss will transform. If your last attack on the boss was physical, then it will have protection from physical attacks, if it was magical, then the boss will ignore magic. Use "Choco/Mog" and "Seal Evil" again. For winning you will receive Cosmo Memory.

In the safe you will find a Basement Key, as well as Odin materia. Now head to the basement to the crypt. Go to the coffin and wake up Vincent. Talk to him about Sephiroth and he will return to the coffin. Talk to him again. After you leave the mansion, Vincent will join you as a full party member.
