How to unlock the FFX: Blitzball Master achievement in FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster - Definitive Guide

The slot reels are Wakka's 4 different overdrives. You start off with elemental slots from the rip but the other 3 require playing blitzball. Love it or hate it several tournaments are required to be beaten for this achievement.

First of all, I advise recruiting Brother (the pilot of the airship) as he is an extremely fast blitzball player and can help you cheese each victory needed. Set Brother as your Mid Fielder (MF) and once you get the ball begin swimming in a huge circle pulling aggro on each of the opposing team members. Be careful of swimming to far away from them as they can lose aggro and swim back to their default position. Once all members are pulled, go from one corner of the enemies side of the field diagonally to one of your own corners. Doing this leaves Tidus wide open for an easy score. So when you have pulled all opposing members to your side of the field AND have gotten enough distance between Brother and the opposing members as to not have interference and a chance to fail the pass, pass the ball to the open Tidus and score your free goal. Being up 1-0, get the ball again and swim back behind your goalie. If your quick enough, all the opposing members will retreat to their default positions and begin to just spin around. From here you can just wait out the clock for an easy victory. If you wish you can just spam passes while waiting to get exp for your team members, retreating to behind the goalie if aggro is gained of course. Rinse repeat until you have won the championship and your reward. After winning each tournament I also advise resetting your players levels. Doing so ensures Brother remains broken, as at higher levels the cheese may not be as easy to do. You will have to recruit Brother after each reset but his contract is extremely cheap so it should not be an issue.

To change to manual if you did not during the story tournament, press Y whilst in possession of the ball and choose type A. By using type A, you can just look at the mini map to see where you are going, where opposing members are, etc.

I've noticed facing the Guado team could be kind of troublesome since they match Brother's speed. If facing them make sure you have Jecht Shot (obtained from the mini game on S.S. Liki) because it will knock 2 opposing members out before taking the shot. Meaning if you can get the ball to Tidus and he only has to break through a max of 2 people, all should be well.

The remaining 3 slots are rewards for tournaments and league. Load up blitzball, and check the rewards of the tournaments or league. You may have to back in and out a few times for it to become available. If the first place reward is not one of the 'slots' then just reset data until it is (Don't forget to recruit Brother before actually starting!) Then begin the tournament or league, and engage cheese mode (or do it legit if you want, but I can give no info/tips on playing it legit but there is a plethora of guides if you decide to do so.)

The first reward is the Attack Reels and is a 'Tournament' reward. This is available as soon as you have access to blitzball (but you can not recruit Brother until you have control of the airship so I advise holding off)

The second is Status Reels and is a 'League' reward. It is available after unlocking Attack Reels AND having Wakka participate in at least 250 battles. (The League lasts 10 games instead of the 2-3 a tournament would have, therefore it may be in your best interest to actually score more than once in these games so you do not become under leveled. Just spam the Brother Tidus combo a few times each game and you should be good. Also grabbing a better goalie may be a good idea. Jumal in Luca Square is a great option [He is the man sitting on the bench with a child running around in front of him.] Keep an eye on the leaderboards because you dont have to win all 10 games, just have the highest number of wins by the end of the ten. It is random who wins/loses/ties so when it becomes mathematically impossible for a team to catch you in wins feel free to just let the games play out with whatever outcome.)

The third is Aurochs Reels and is a 'Tournament' reward. It is available after unlocking the previous two and having Wakka participate in at least 450 battles.

If cheesing remember to reset in between each tournament or league, and also remember you will have to back out and in until the slot reel is the reward. Once all 3 Reels are unlocked you will have your achievement. But after unlocking each of the Slots, a new reward will be available being the Jupiter Crest which is a catalyst for Wakka's Ultimate Weapon, which I highly suggest just hamming out one more League. Thats all! With the cheese this becomes a cake walk, but does still take a while. Nothing compared to finishing your sphere grid though! Good luck!

Reset data and now can’t win so far in the league. Two matches both draws to try and get status reels. I’ve got brother and nimrook. What shall I do?

450 battles??? OMG ... I guess I will skip this. The music alone during Blitzball has my ears bleeding.

Also, just to clarify, they are battles against monters. NOT blitzball fights

Mercury Sigil is the final prize not Jupiter. I think they’ve got the words the wrong way round.

It's recommended to reset because of the different stats at higher levels. For example Keppa (the Aurochs goalie) is terrible at the beginning but for some reason at high levels he is one of the best shooters. Plus 1st prize reward may not be what your looking for every time and you would have to play through again if you did not reset.

Ive noticed the names switched in the xbox compared to every other iteration. I'll fix it when I get a chance, thanks for the feedback

Nimrook is starting goalie for al bhed, you would have to wait for him to retire from them before acquiring. Get Jumal instead, he is in luca square on a bench left side of fountain or whatever is in the center

EDIT: ok for me - soft resetting or resetting the team data did nothing.
Instead, I:
used the save sphere to play blitzball
backed out
left the save sphere
Re-used the save sphere

If you reset data then you can’t access a tournament? So you’d have to do another league? I’m trying to get Auroch Reels, I’m at the end of the story and everyone is pretty much max stats so would be amazed if he hasn’t been in 450 battles

@C3LLDW3LLER You get it by returning to Luca once you have the airship. The bar owner gives it to you (the bar where the Ronso's fought)

@Cuthred It's really not that bad, Wakka is probably the best character due to his last overdrive so grinding him is important either way. Once you reach end game content fights only last 1 turn really, he meet the requirements before I even checked out Blitzball

@C3LLDW3LLER I don't know what more to offer my friend. Using the above methods I had little issues. The Guado should be the only ones that Brother doesn't outspeed, so doing the round up, pass to Tidus method should work on everyone else. And since the League is longer, you can level Brother and Tidus up more often, but it should be very do-able from the start. Wish I had more to offer :/
