I got this achievement by following the video below, using the same path.
The other Chocobo apparently can either finish at roughly 32 seconds or around about 38 seconds. The time seems to be random so this will be trial and error.
NOTE!: You can't win if the other Chocobo time is 32 seconds.
Keep running the same path and you'll eventually get 5 chests and win.

Edit: It does not matter if you hit any poles or not. Hitting the poles will only effect the reward you get.

I got five chests and didn’t hit any poles and won but didn’t get the achievement.

@C3LLDW3LLER This is apparently a common thing that's been happening for most achievements in this game. If for whatever reason any achievement won't unlock, try doing a soft reset (LB + LT + RB + RT + both the small middle buttons). After loading up the game again, the achievement should pop. Hope this helps

I hit 1 pole and still won and got the achievement. I just ended up getting a potion.

@Fist O Cthulhu Thanks for the input. I Just looked into it more and it seems that hitting the poles don't affect your time. It just prevents you from getting all of the rewards.

Personally i found this quite easy by using the D-Pad, tried a few times with the analogue sticks, just couldn't get the win with them.

I must of been sat here for about 3 hours now doing the same trail over and over and over again and just as I open the 5th box I lose the race, what the hell is going on? Am I doing something wrong?

@Omega just as you posted this I reset my Xbox and I did the race within my first 4 tries. So if anyone else who is having the same problem I can’t Stress it’s enough please reset the Xbox and try again, you will get it!!

The tip that you can hit the poles is super helpful. Once I stopped caring about that, I took corners with poles a lot tighter, and got it on my first try.

Just unlocked this achivement, and I noticed when when attempting that if I got to the first chest in under 6.5 seconds, I'd get the slower chocobo everytime.

After that it was doing minimum errors and I was able to get the achievement,

I dont understand it, y does final fantasy always add in these stupid mini games with the worst mechanics ever. It doesn't matter if i get the faster one or the slower one, it takes too long to open the damn chests

JVengeance's comment is the most helpful. Basically, take clean lines as possible, hug the inside lane, get to the first box within 6.5 seconds, and it'll spawn the slower one.

@Da Mitch Man 90 Idk if this will help, but try quitting the game and then reload your save file again. This actually fixed an issue I had with random enemy spawns before so maybe it'll work here too? It sounds like you're having some real bad luck. The opponent chocobo can finish the race at 1 of 2 times which can be kinda annoying since the race involves some luck as well. Best of luck.
