How to unlock the FFX: Lightning Dancer achievement in FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster - Definitive Guide

Found a great video for this on youtube:

Gives you a guaranteed lightning bolt and I got 200 in a few minutes.
To get no encounters on equipment you need 30 purifying salts which you can steal from zombie monks in
or from collecting all the dragon monsters for the arena which gives you 99

Dragons are found in these areas -
Vouivre Mi'ihen Highroad,
Lamashtu Mushroom Rock Road,
Kusariqqu Thunder Plains,
Mushussu Sanubia Desert,
Nidhogg Cavern of the Stolen Fayth or Mt. Gagazet

This achievement may be bugged as I have got the in game rewards for doing it but haven't had the achievement pop even after a reset. Will update when/if it does :)

The achievement will likely pop up for you later. I got the Besaid cloister achievement a couple days after I actually played that part of the game.

I'm finding if I relaunch the game each time I play achievements pop when earned, I think when you resume the game without properly restarting it, it screws it up till you do. Happened with the besaid cloister and win a blitzball match cheevos for me

The wraith in the cavern of the stolen fayth drops armors with no encounters on it, you will most likely get quite a few of them when you're capturing the monsters there.

Tip, if you can lower your TV pic quality to Game setting, instead of dynamic or whatever you run.

If anyone is having trouble with this, mute your tv. No, seriously. I struggled with this, even doing the video. I got to 75+ and I'd always eventually be struck by lightning. I muted my TV and not only got it first try, but was able to do a second run 1st try on my boyfriend's game. The reason is that there is a delay between the lightning and the thunder clap. Even if you do not think it is influencing when you hit A, just try to mute your tv anyway and see if it helps.

Also, the achievement will not pop until you get the item out of the box for the 200 lightning strikes. I personally went to around 220 before I left to check the box, just in case I had messed up counting in my head.

just for clarifications sake the achievement itself, and the solution here does not specify that the 200 must be in a row.

Yeah I was going to ask, I remember when I originally played this on Playstation when it first came out, I did 200 in a row but the achievement doesn't specify in a row. Is anyone able to confirm it doesn't have to be 'in a row'?

Even if the achievement doesn't tell you that it must be done "in a row", you get the achievement when you open the chest at the agency entrance and receive the sigil (which is for dodging 200 lightning bolts in a row). Good guide & video, thanks!

It’s definitely in a row it’s says so when you open chest after certain amount you get items I got up to over one hundred then got hit went to chest and it said I got 100 in a row

Can confirm that once I dodged 200 in a row, I went to the inn, opened the treasure chest a bunch of times and when it declared I had dodged 200 the achievement unlocked

Like on the the PS2 version all those years back I set a timer instead of counting as that does help with tedious nature of getting the Mars Sigil from this. It doesn’t need clarifying about it being in succession as the game only gives you rewards for consecutive dodges and you should realise this after you’ve tried (and possibly failed) this the first time

By Draco719 on 08 Apr 2020 02:19
Yes its 200 in a row without messing up I.e you do 50 in a row then get hit on 51 you have to start again from 1.

This game can screw itself... in a row? My getting anxiety just thinking about it.

Also the guide never mentions it has to be in a row btw

ff9 has a achievement like this as well on there you have to rope jump 1000 times in a row.

Its stupid this and the rope jump achievement should have total not in row

I will admit, it's a pain in the ass. But whether you love it or hate it, you will need to complete this side quest to enhance Lulu's Ultimate Weapon. I was able to achieve this on the PS2 version of the game. It also helps to pause the game after a while and rest your eyes from all the flashes.

I dodged over 250 bolts, got the chest and rewards and the achievement didn't pop. Rip.

'No Encounters' armors are also a rare drop from the Ghost enemies found in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth (where you hire the Yojimbo Aeon); naturally, if you capture only one, you can pay to fight more at the Monster Arena.
It took me around 10 to 12 fights to get my NE armor; probably quite a bit faster than farming Purifying Salts. Just my $0.02.

I would like to add that after you get 200 dodged, you can get hit on the way back. I got to 210 to be on the safe side and screwed up. Went back and the chest was there with the 200 reward.

Rip 100% for me. Seriously though, I think the devs enjoy torturing their customers.

I literally do not have the attention span for this achievement, as simple as it can be using that lightning dodge trick, I get so bored. This is such a pain.

You dont need to run around the circles. You simply need to run past them and back. Ive done 200 not in a row and now seeing it must be in a row ugh.......

Unfortunately yes.

Just got this done, another point that I didn't see in this solution / comments, is that you can't use any save tricks. So literally have to sit through all 200 in one go. May seem obvious to some, but I was saving every 50 dodges, and it didn't help...

Don't psyche yourself out over this, it's not too bad at all. My successful attempt took about 20 minutes, and Adayin's comment about pressing A just as I hit the ledge was helpful. Don't spam A though, just press it once. Something else I used: a tally counter. Every 10 dodges, I'd add 1 to the counter, and reset it if I got hit. Instead of looking at it as "200 dodges in a row", now it becomes "Dodge 10 times in a row, 20 times (also in a row)". This helped make it not seem so intimidating. Finally, you can get hit on your way back when you're done with your streak. As long as it was 200 or more, you'll still get the achievement after you open all of the chest items.

Can you save between lightning bolts?

@ToXiC I don't think so. You have to leave the screen to get to one, which resets the counter.

I found a pretty nifty tip that at least worked a lot better for me on truetrophies comments of this task. As stated by 'Rumyungyunsonson', instead of running the circle, tag the tower just to the left of the little circles the video points out. IDK if I was just getting in the groove when I started or if doing straight lines actually made it a tad bit easier, but regardless I personally found myself making less mistakes doing this method

Also doing this method it takes 5-6 seconds per 'run', meaning 200 strikes is right around 20 minutes. Since this is such a tedious boring task, I found counting in my head to be to distracting and I'll use that as an excuse for messing up haha. But instead of counting I did around 5 dodges, started a 20 min timer, took breaks every 5 minutes to make sure I stay alert, and then did a few more just in case after the timer went off. I'm sure most can just ham it out, but maybe this will help those like me who have a short attention span!

Just want to add that you are safe standing by the pillar just South-West of those two dark spots referenced in the video. Whenever you get stressed or need to calm your nerves: Stand by the pillar and wait until you're ready to do another go. After I passed 100 I took a break for a few seconds after every 10 dodges to stay calm and focused.

This solution took me 3 attempts and 30 minutes total to pull off. Just loop back around the two small craters to the left, and hit cn_A as soon as you cross the lip into the big crater. The timing is pretty forgiving, you can be slightly early. You just just can't be late.

I will say that you can leave the Thunder Plains area and come back, and the chest will still be there with all your unopened rewards. You do have to open the chest once for each reward tier you've earned (2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 150, 200 dodges in a row). So you can save after the reward for 150 dodges just in case the achievement doesn't pop for 200. Then you can just reload and reopen the chest instead of reloading and doing 200 dodges again.
