How to unlock the FFX: Overcoming the Nemesis achievement in FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster - Definitive Guide

To unlock the Nemesis fight, you will need to capture 10 of each fiend in the game, and then defeat each fiend in the Area Conquest, Species Conquest, and Original sections of the monster arena at least once. To capture fiends, you need to buy weapons with the "capture" trait from the Monster Arena owner.

Many of the above fiends can be found in more than one area, but are classified by these areas according to the Monster Arena.

Once you have captured 10 of each, you need to beat the following fiends in the Monster Arena:

Area Conquest
Stratoavis
Marlboro Menace
Kottos
Coeurlregina
Jormungand
Cactuar King
Espada
Abyss King
Chimerageist
Don Tonberry
Catoblepas
Abaddon
Vorban

Species Conquest
Fenrir
Ornitholestes
Pteryx
Hornet
Vidatu
One-Eye
Jumbo Flan
Nega Elemental
Tanket
Fafnir
Sleep Sprout
Bomb King
Juggernaut
Ironclad

Original
Earth Eater
Greater Sphere
Catatstrophe
Thu'ban
Neslug
Ultima Buster
Shinryu

These monsters are some of the toughest enemies in the game. If you're underleveled, you should grind using the Don Tonberry trick. You will level a decent amount just capturing fiends, too. I recommend using zanmato to beat the harder bosses in the Original section if you're still having trouble. This can work for everything except for Shinryu, which is an underwater fight where you can't use Yuna. I had a max-damage Wakka use his Attack Reels overdrive with a break damage limit weapon, twice. At max damage, a perfect Attack Reels will deal 1.2 million damage. Use "Entrust" to fill his overdrive a second time. One perfect use of a damage-break Attack Reels can also one-shot many of the other fiends.

Once you have beaten all of the fiends, Nemesis will unlock in the second page of the original creations section. Using zanmato is the easiest way to beat him.

If you want to fight him normally, he has 10 million HP. He counters every attack with Ultima. All characters should have armor with ribbon equipped, since Nemesis' Ultra Spark casts Poison, Curse, Slow, and Power Break on the party. Auto-Haste armor should also be equipped. Nemesis' ultimate attack Armageddon deals 99,000 damage to the entire party, so at least one person should have auto-life cast on them. Use aeons for meat shields, and Quick Hit him until he goes down. Note that Kimahri can learn Nova from Nemesis.

Comment with any questions about other fiends!

You will need to capture 10 of each fiend, not kill.

Assuming that's what you meant, the arena owner will make some comment when Nemesis is unlocked. It has an entire page to itself in the original creations, it's not on the first page with all the other ones.

If you're sure you've captured 10 of every fiend (there will be a tally next to their name in the arena) then one of the area, species, or original monster fights must not have counted for some reason, you'll have to fight them all again until Nemesis unlocks cry

Just as a note in case this happens to anyone else, I defeated Nemesis, got the Key item the old man gives you and no cheevo pop, I realize I was offline from xbox live, I fixed my ethernet cord and now online, nothing, soft reset the game and pop.

AmagiciaNamdGob - I was having the same issue. I had 10 of each monster captured and I beat all the Area, Species and Original monsters TWICE and still Nemesis wouldn't unlock. To fix it, all I did was walk over to the area where the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth entrance is and walk back to the Monster Arena. The guy finally said something different and Nemesis unlocked.

Honestly, I think it's time to mark this achievement as bugged as the old man doesn't want to create Nemesis for some of us. I'm having the same issue to where Nemesis isn't unlocking. Yes, I did everything and no, I'm not stupid. I already completed this game on my other tag "N1GHTM4R3 TV" so I obviously done this before and know the requirements. Something seemed to have happened since then or I just got lucky and skipped right over this bug back then.

He only counters any special attack with Ultima, not every attack.

For those that may be confused why he hasn’t appeared yet. Make sure you actually kill Don Tonberry. That’s the easy one to miss. Skipped over him because at this point I’ve fought him 50 times getting AP, but finally realized I never actually killed him. Always fled.

Neslug is a pain to kill. Make sure that Anima has a full overdrive before starting the fight. Once Neslug retreats into its shell and starts getting Regen, summon Anima, hit the overdrive, and watch Neslug get hit for over 1 million points, breaking the shell.

I just figure out why I didn't unlock nemesis, it is because of Catoblepas using meteor on my party, it didn't count as victory eventhough I got item drop from it. Make sure you guys survive meteor by using Auto-Life on one of the party. After, kill the Catoblepas and survive from meteor, Nemesis dialogue appear!

I seem to recall an old guide that relied on Tidus/wakka/rikku and triple overdrive. You machine gun out wakkas 1.2 million 3 times +entrust Tidus's to Wakka as well, finally rikku has a mix that dumps her Overdrive to fill the other to units, this leads to wakka using up to 18 Overdrives in A row @ 1.2 million or 21.6 million total this should do the trick anything
