I got this earlier than expected! During the second phase of the battle in Macalania Temple, you can earn this by summoning ????, building their overdrive, and unleashing it when the enemy uses boost.

There is a very easy way to get this during the underwater portion of Via Purifico where your party is fixed as Tidus/Wakka/Rikku.

You will come to a battle with Evrae Altana who has the "zombie" status which makes healing spells/items damage the afflicted rather than restore health. As such, using a Pheonix Down or an X-Potion on the boss should deal 9999 damage without fail.

This is actually very simple if you have the Gil to max out Rikku's 'Spare Change" special. Go to a Save Sphere and save so you don't waste the Gil. Run around until you get a random encounter. Max out the Spare Change attack for me it was 100k Gil. Damage read 9999 and Achievement popped. So insanely easy I had to share.

I will state that I was collecting the Jecht spheres at the time so I had back tracked to an easier section of the game. I've only done the attack twice. Once to just see of it worked and again to make sure I wasn't crazy before posting this. Good luck.

Phoenix Down didn't work for me - it only dealt around 8,000 damage.

An X-Potion did the trick though! I highly recommend updating your solution for this :-)

This achievement may be buggy. I was in the al bhed home, running around, collecting items when I realised I had missed one of the al bhed primers. Did a soft reset, went back into the game and it just popped, but I’ve not hit higher than 7500 so far during my save.
