You get this hunt from a boy that is in the airports with his mother and father.
He has a dialogue bubble and he will tell you that he saw some flying monster when travelling by airship but her parents don't believe him (they promise 100 chocobos and one airship if that is true). So he asks you to hunt it to make her parents believe in him.
Basically, you will have to travel by airship (not in cabin) from place to place, and each time you see the family on the airport, go and talk with the boy. That way you will increase the chances that you, travelling by airship, will be able to face Deathgaze. There is a maximum of 64% chance of encounter him when travelling, and you will see after taking off, because the captain explains the dramatic situation and asks for help (you can skip if if you don't want or feel capable to).
Upon accepting to help, go to the upper bridge and Deathgaze will be there. It has a ton of HP (almost 200k) and constantly casts a barried to be inmune fo physical attacks but, he is not inmune to BIO and SILENCE. Cast those two spells as soon as you can, so he won't be able to use magic and decrease HP with SAP (BIO's effect).
Anyway Deathgaze will constantly uses fireballs against you and affects you with disease and some powerful physical attacks. Don't forget also to use DISPEL to disable any positive magic on him.
Basically, it is a matter of patience killing him, swapping party members.
Some Espers come handy when Deathgaze is inmune to physical attacks. I was able to take down half of his life bar with Zalera, and keeping my character behind the Esper.
BTW: I was lvl 53 average at the moment of beating it.
