How to unlock the Zodiac Knight achievement in FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE - Definitive Guide
Video isn't mine. I was having trouble and was looking for an easy way, and found this :
So I thought I'd share. It belongs to Veracity Trigger on youtube.
Basically the strategy is to blitz him down before any of his mechanics come into play. When he gets to about 20% health be becomes immune to physical damage and will cast his ultimate more often. The ultimate has a chance of insta-killing characters (and potentially all 3) so basically RNG can bend you over a table if it feels like it.
Ideally you want someone with White Robes and Excalibur because he is weak to light, my other two characters were using a random mace called Grand Mace (she usually uses Yagyu and Dark Robes, but I assume Zodiark absorbs dark) and a crossbow (Tula). Once you get to the spot just outside the boss, turn off everyone's gambits and let your buffs run out. Once they have put the following buffs on all 3 characters you intend to use : Haste, Protect, Shell, Bubble, Faith, Bravery. Then have each of them use a Bacchus Wine on themselves so all 3 are berserk. Remove them from your party and put >1< of the other 3 characters in by themselves, you want a weak one that will die, unequip their armor and stuff if need be.
Enter the boss room, walk up to the boss so he casts his ultimate. The one character will die and the game will prompt you to fix your party, put your three main characters in. As they are berserked, they will attack on their own, obliterating the boss. I messed up my buff gambits and didn't have bravery on the mace and crossbow user and still slayed the boss in <10 seconds. The excalibur user was doing 40k a hit, so Fran probably hard carried the fight.
You fight Zodiark in one of the trial mode battles, and I assume you get the achievement there too because it seems other bosses work that way (like Yiazmat) but I don't know if you can unlock the esper Zodiark that way (which you also need for achievement) so I assume you have to do it in the main game regardless.
For reference, here was my party, all level 96.
Fran (Knight/Bushi) with Excalibur/Holy Robes and Genji Gloves
Ashe (Monk/Time Battlemage) with a Tula crossbow/Time Bolts and armor that boosts strength
Penelo (Red Battlemage/Shikari) with a Grand Mace and armor that boosts strength

Prepping a berserk fully buffed reserve team worked wonders. I struggled with this boss since it always seemed to wipe out my entire party in one attack. With your prepping tactic it took my berserkers a few seconds to beat the crap out of him. They were all over level 90. Big thanks and a big thumbs up.

Fantastic! Just tried this with my 3 characters around level 70 and managed to take him out quickly enough!
