How to unlock the Anomalous achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 - Definitive Guide

These are listed in order of the difficulty I found them to be. Your mileage may vary based on your play style and party setup.

Don't forget that for certain endings, you must actually visit a second area after beating a boss in the non-story-approved way. Usually these places will be listed by "Area Name ???AF" I can't remember which all of the places are for this, but if a new area appears after you've defeated a boss make sure to visit it, especially if you've gone back and closed the gate in order to rewind the story and refight bosses.

1) When you're first going through the story you can actually get a Paradox Ending when Lightning offers you to stick around in New Bohdum during your dream. Say yes, and boom. The ending will show, and you'll be kicked back with the option to return to New Bohdum and this time say no.

2) Close gate on Acadamia 4XX AF. With your Paradox Scope on, go talk to Alyssa and DO NOT skip the cutscene OR take the artifact.
**NOTE** Sensei zack h19 pointed out that you don't get the option to reject the artifacts until AFTER you've given Alyssa all of the pieces. So in other words, turn in all of the artifacts, make sure to actually sit through the cutscene that follows, and then reject the artifact when she tries to give it to you.

3) With the paradox scope on, close the gate for Augusta Tower 200 AF. Head up to fight Proto Fal'cie Adam. Don't forget that when you are on the elevator, at each floor you don't need to leave the elevator, just examine the switch and continue up to the top.

4) Close the Bresha Ruins 005 AF gate. Go fight Atlas without weakening him.
**NOTE** SamuraiPanda89 has warned not to skip the cutscene when you first approach Atlas, as this may result in missing the necessary dialogue options to fight him in his un-weakened state.

5) This time, close the gate on Sunleth Waterscape 300 AF. Fight His Royal Hugeness, then immediately after fight him again.
(Thanks to LazTurn for pointing out you don't need the Paradox Scope for these two.)

6) Close gate on Academia 4XX AF. Accept the artifacts, proceed with the story as usual until you reach the Dying World. Turn on your Paradox Scope, and fight Caius. I did this with Noel at 5 x 99 and 1 x 40 (It was Saboteur, I believe). I also forgot to equip his Ultimate Weapon, so it is possible to do it without, just a little harder. When the fight starts, attack him as a commando until the stagger bar is locked (it will change colors slightly, and drain slower). One full ATB gauge attack should be good. Now switch to Ravager until he's stunned, then switch back to Commando. This should be enough to finish him off the first time. He'll revive, and you will have the opportunity to heal up if you don't attack him right away. Repeat this process, and don't forget to use your Javalin attack if you need to.

Mise64 has provided an alternate method for fighting Caius if you are having trouble with mine. He says: Start the fight as a Sentinel and use Mediguard while Caius is attacking. Eventually he will step back, so when he does switch to Saboteur and use Wound. Keep doing this until he's down to one third of his life and then switch to Commando and take him out.

7) Close gate on Oerba 200 AF. Defeat Caius. If you're having trouble with him, make sure to get poison on him early, and a Med-Med-Med or Syn-Med-Med paradigm helps for quick recovery.

8) Close gate on Acadamia 4XX AF. Proceed with the story until you get to the Void Beyond, and then turn your Paradox Scope on. Defeat Caius as Serah. I suggest bringing along a strong Commando such as fully-leveled Odin and a strong Sentinel such as Bunker Beast or Silver Chocobo.

An alternate method (albeit quite a bit longer, but much easier) is to bring along Bunker Beast (or another strong sentinel) and have Med-Sen / Sab-Sen / Rav-Sen - For the duration of the fight, you will be using Sab-Sen and (if necessary) switching to Med to heal when you or Bunker goes red. Continue to use Deshell until it sticks, then hit him with Wound over and over. When he casts Absolution or Body & Soul, dispell until all the buffs are gone (except the heart icon and the wings icon, you can't dispel those.) and then repeat with Deshell & Wound. Once he reaches 25% max health, he will no longer buff himself and you can switch to Rav-Sen or Com-Sen and finish him off....finally. Expect a long fight.

9) Not difficult as far as fighting, but it requires you to have every fragment - which basically means this will be the last achievement you get in the game. In order to get this, you have to return to Valhalla with the Paradox Scope on, AND all 160 fragments. You don't need to close the gate on 500 AF as you'll be right at the end again, just run down the final walkway. All the cutscenes can be skipped, right up to the end credits (twice). After that you should get a loading screen and then the secret ending.

Is this cheev missable or can you go back and re-do the steps if you've missed any?

Just like to add since I fought Atlas about 5 times and didn't get the paradox ending, be careful not to skip the cinematic that occurs right before you approach him. This is the one where they talk about the control device. A live trigger occurs in this cinematic and you must respond to it for the paradox ending to occur. I skipped it so many times having completely forgotten about it and kept wondering why I wasn't getting the paradox ending. The guide book and the walkthrough here don't mention it so I thought I might provide a helping hand

Added to the solution. Thanks :) I can't remember if I ended up doing the same thing as you or not, but either way together we will save others from the headache.

Forgot one last thing about that paradox ending. When you beat Atlas, it'll take you to the historia crux. Go straight to the red archyllite step that appears and the paradox ending is yours

Yeah I left that part out as I figured it was pretty obvious (and it's covered in my guide for all the artifacts)

Haha, I'm dumb and didn't go check the unlocked Archylte Steppe ???AF so it might be worth putting in for idiots like me :)

Added the second paragraph to help out with that. I'm pretty sure Archlyte Steppe isn't the only place where that happens, so I made it more general.

for the record anyone reading this. the second ending option to take the fragment or not will be right after you give aylssa the last graviton core i believe it was called epsilon. after give her this last piece the cut scene will start. i was just starting to panic thinking that if i gave her the graviton cores i would mess up some how just wanted others to know.

Seems like a lot of work. Thanks anyway.

Most of the work is getting the fragments you need to unlock the last ending. If you're going for completion, it'll probably clock in around 70 hours. I think I took 80 or 90, but I wasn't using a guide. With a guide you could easily do it in 60 - 70.

Just a heads up. When fighting Cauis as Serah in the void beyond, keep the difficulty at normal. I tried it at easy and the cheevo did not pop.

playing the ending final "secret ending" battle can be done with the "clock speed up" skill... i basically just commando X 3 and a few rav x3 Casius for *all* the battles and it was pretty quick to get to the end at that point with the speed up time.

Just a stupid question... Is there a way you can check which paradox endings I already got? I got a bit lost in the game's (sub)menu's. Thx

Edit:
Found it myself. To answer my own question (and for other people wondering)...

Main Menu -> Fragments -> Categories -> Paradox Ending (should be bottom of list)

I know this is years late but Mister RK is wrong. I beat him on easy and everything popped normally

Not missable. You can't do most of them until after you've finished the main story at any rate. The only three you can do without the paradox scope (received by finishing the game) are 1, 4 & 8. 8 will be so hard even after your characters are strong that the chances of you getting it before doing 95% of the other stuff is very, very small.

I did 7 endings by this solution and it's great. But that com&rav strategy for lonely noel defeating cauis just didn't worked for me. For like 20 times. So I googled different approach by guy called gibnihtmus. It says "just sen&sab him" and it worked great for the first time I tried. He lasted for like 8 minutes and I've got only 3 stars rating but still if you've got your noel maxed out and still aren't able to defeat caius quick com&rav way do this: switch to sen and do mediguard for all the time cauis is attacking. Eventually he steps backwards and takes his time. You switch to sab and wound him. Repeating this approach I've took him down to third of his life and then com him down in two full atbs like piece of cake.

There are nine total endings you need to witness to unlock this achievement. The first in the list can be done as you play through the game for your first time (as well as the third and fourth using Time Reversals, but you may as well come back after you beat the game and you're the strongest). The rest need to be done after beating the game and unlocking the "Paradox Scope" Fragment Skill from the Chocobo Girl in the Serendipity Casino.

The most difficult ending is probably #7. The rest really gave me no trouble. To beat this one, make sure you have a good Sen monster leveled to about 40ish. I used Bunkerbeast. With the Sen monster drawing Caius' attention, you won't have your attacks interrupted or take nearly any damage, allowing you to easily stagger and defeat him.

#1: Fate and Freedom

  1. Paradox Scope = N/A.
  2. Episode 5 - Neo Bodhum (Year Unknown)
  3. In a Live Trigger conversation with Lightning, tell her "I accept this world."

#2: The Future is Hope

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to City of Academia AF4XX and use Time Reversal.
  3. Proceed to talk with Hope and Alyssa until they request parts of the Graviton Core. Turn them all in to Alyssa, then in the Live Trigger conversation, refuse the Artifact.

#3: A Giant Mistake

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to Bresha Ruins AF005 and use Time Reversal.
  3. Defeat Atlas without weakening him first.

#4: Mog's Marvelous Flan Plan

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to Sunleth Waterscape AF300 and use Time Reversal.
  3. As you did in the main story, defeat the Royal Ripeness w/ Snow as an ally.
  4. After the story scenes, once you can explore freely, approach the Royal Ripeness a second time and defeat him at his full strength.

#5: Vanille's Truth

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to Oerba Village AF200 and use Time Reversal.
  3. Make your way to the northwest rooftop and defeat Caius.

#6: Test Subjects

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to Augusta Tower AF200 and use Time Reversal.
  3. Make your way to the top of the tower and defeat Proto fal'Cie Adam.

#7: Beneath a Timeless Sky

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to City of Academia AF4XX and use Time Reversal.
  3. Proceed to talk with Hope and Alyssa until they request parts of the Graviton Core. Turn them all in to Alyssa, then in the Live Trigger conversation, accept the Artifact.
  4. Exit back out to the city. Enter gate to the Time-Space Interval with the Artifact you received from Alyssa.
  5. Follow along the path, talking to Yeul as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Serah. Note that even on Easy Difficulty with a Level 99 in all 6 Roles Serah and Tier 5 monster companions, this can be one of the more challenging battles in the game.

#8: Heir to Chaos

  1. Paradox Scope = OFF.
  5. Follow along the path, talking to Yule as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Serah. [Again, note that Paradox Scope = OFF for this battle.]
  6. Follow along with the events in Neo Bodhum (Year Unknown). [Now would be a good time to turn Paradox Scope = ON.]
  7. In a Live Trigger conversation with Lightning, tell her "I won't accept it."
  8. Enter the time distortion to A Dying World AF700. Follow along with the events as you did in the main story, then defeat Caius in a 1-on-1 battle with Noel. [Again, note that Paradox Scope = ON for this battle.]

#9: Secret Ending (Requires 160 Fragments)

  1. Paradox Scope = ON.
  2. Go to City of Academia AF500. Time Reversal is not necessary.
  3. Proceed to defeat Caius and the 3x Chaos Bahamuts as you did in the main story. After all of the same ending events, there will be bonus scenes tacked on to the end after the credits.
