How to unlock the Clock Stopper achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 - Definitive Guide

NOTE: This does not work for the 50 preemptive stikes overall as Nicolaus Solon has confirmed this. It was also confirmed by Fishie Penguin that you do not have to wait for the first hit to connect to be able to have your preemptive strikes count.

This can be achieved in about 20-30 mins on the first level and can also be done on any other map. To get your 100 consecutive preemptive strikes for this achievement very fast follow these directions:
1.Time Travel to New Bodhum 003 AF (If you just started the game this is the first area you are in when you take control of Serah)
2.Leave the main village and go to a spot where you see a walkway made of wood that leads to a higger level.
3. Instead of going up it, go to the right of it by the water and run around until you find someone to fight.
4. Once you encounter a slow creature press A to hit him. (MAKE SURE A MESSAGE THAT SAYS "GREAT!" POPS UP)
5. Once in the battle your characters should hit the enemies once before you can control them. Once they have finished hitting the enemies press start and scroll down to retry.

Your screen should load quickly with the previous creature(s) right in front of you and all you have to do is repeat steps 4 and 5 until the achievement pops. Also make sure to save after every 10-20 so if you make a mistake you don't have to start all the way from 0.

I can confirm that you will not get the "Quick Draw" achievement by performing xCoDxDrOpShOtSx method. Although his method is still idea for this achievement.

The quick draw achievement is "Performed a significant number of preemptive strikes." Which is a total of 50 nonconsecutive preemptive strikes.

Freaking awesome method. Thanks!

I basically hit retry directly after Sereh leapt back into line after performing the pre-emptive strike, just to make sure it registered.

Does anybody know if you MUST let them actually connect with their strikes? Cause it's possible to retry without them actually finishing the strike.

My friend from PSN said that they must connect or it will not count, but it may be possible although I would not risk it. Just wait the extra 2just secs to be sure.

True. It'd be nice to know for sure, 2 seconds over 100 hits = almost 5 minutes more. hehe

Go ahead and try it if you want and I can update the guide and give you credit, but it may be a waste of time.

I got this achievement using this method...half of my hits I retried before the hits connected for the preemptive strike so you still get the achievement as long as you get the Great. Nice solution

I can confirm as well, that you don't need to let the attacks to connect for it to register. Also, if you plan on getting 1000g, I'd suggest waiting until you get all 160 fragments. That way, you can use the Mog Clock fragment skill to speed up time. Although if you choose to do this at 2x speed, you probably want to find a rare monster (eg. Tonberry) that doesn't move even if you are in the yellow.

Works. I would just like to add that you can also "escape" a battle by leaving the encounter radius before the Mog Clock depletes.

Getting 100 "great" in a row is enough.
Just got the achievement that way : retry almost everytime before 1st strike and ran away once from an ennemy to look for a better one.
Great solution !

The goblins in Bresha Ruins (300 AF) are perfect for grinding this achievement. They don't attack you when they spawn, so you always get the first hit in. Just hit "retry" after you get a hit in battle and they spawn almost immediately, rinse, repeat. Super easy!

Achievement is story related, i mean if you can't hit the A button to preemptive strike, there is something wrong. Monster spawns, hit the A button to swipe at it, and after a couple hours farming CP and monsters for your bestiary you should have this as one of your first 5 achievements unlocked.

Stupid acheivement that should have been cumulative not consecutive but cest la vie!

@ DAN Mavu: no way! it's a great achievement! i mean if you want ridiculously easy achievements, play something made based off a Disney movie.... if you're looking for easy achievements in an RPG, you're not very smart.

Just wanted to add, you might want to put this off until the end if you're going for all achievements. I got it by accident farming monster materials in the Archylte Steppe and Brescha Ruins, where almost all the enemies just sit there waiting to be hit.

100 consecutive :/ What a stupid achievement. 100 nonconsecutive would have been just fine.

Was wondering why this had not popped, consecutive is such a hassle, great solution. Will give this a quick try tonight.

I found that New Bodhum 003 is a terrible place to do this as it has those creatures that look like wolves. They tend to run around the moment they spawn. On top of that, it gives the worst battle rewards in the game.

Beasts (Gorgonopsid in this case) do spawn in the water area, though are not nearly as frequent as on the ridge leading away from the Beachfront. They do have a tendency to spawn often enough to ruin my running total every five kills or so, offering no chance of a counter in the process. Still a good solution, but not the "best" for the player's time. Thank you!

Very late but I’m in archlyte steppe and have been doing this for over an hour and still no achievement, do you have to do every battle when the timer comes up or can you walk away?

@ Worhammer: really, your life is so busy you can't spare 5 minutes? or at least you have to do pointless math to see if it can be added onto your day? or were you just being a child and trying to prove saving 2-3 seconds per battle is a good idea? you're an idiot, i hate people like you that have to correct every little nuance to make themselves feel smart/valid.

I haven't played this game in a long time but if I recall correctly, the wolves only spawn in the upper area, which is the area I say NOT to go to. If you stay by the water on the lower level you should get very slow enemies as per my experience and many others. As for the rewards, this is a guide for an easy way to achieve this achievement and nothing more. There are plenty of other areas with higher rewarding outcomes but the enemies are much more difficult to get the preemptive strike on.

I can confirm that If while doing this achievement you encounter an enemy but for any reason you don't make contact with it and just escape the potential fight, it won't affect the counter for 100 pre-emptive fights. I was counting the number of fights I had while trying to get this achievement and when I reach fight 82 I encountered an enemy but instead of hitting it to get "GREAT" I just continued walking and escaped the fight. Fortunately this mistake didn't reset the counter back to zero. I just continued fighting making sure I get the "GREAT"and when I reach fight 100 BANG the achievement was mine. :) Hope this help along with the other guides here,

What you must do for this achievement is get 100 preemptive strikes consecutively ( in a row ). I did this early on in the game in the Bresha Ruins, in the underground tunnels, being as it seemed most of the enemies are clueless down there.

As for some tips:

1. Play on easy.
2. As soon as the Moogle clock comes up, strike fast! If the clock runs out or the enemy hits you first, you will have to start all over again.

It'll take at least an hour I believe, it gets quite boring if you're actually trying for it.

Did not downvote, but would like to mention not trying to get it legit. There are a few monsters that you cannot earn a strike on, and ive learned the hard way that it resets your count (was on 57 legit).

Did the retry method, much easier and less tedious.

This achievement can be a bit time consume and because it is a streak-based achievement, the cost of failure is very staggering.

When you're in the Oerba ruins in 200AF, there will be groups of enemies that will take a while to notice you when they spawn. The key is to attack them to instigate a pre-emptive strike (Great) 100 times and consecutively.

There are two ways you can get the 100 pre-emptive strikes in a row--The first is to do the battle as normal and the other to enter the battle and after the pre-emptive strike hits, press start and select "retry", which will take you back to the map, which will allow the same enemies to spawn 1 second later.

Once you get the pre-requisit pre-emptive strikes, the achievement is your's.

To get this achievement you must get 100 consecutive pre-emptive strikes in a row. You will know you have gotten a pre-emptive strike the word "great" flashes on your screen before initiating combat. Below is the method that worked for me.

**Contains Spoilers**

When you go to 200 AF you will have to fight a giant flan. After the fight go ahead and get through the entire part where you get the artefact, and then head back to where the giant flan is.

The area in front of the flan is wide open, has a decent amount of encounters and you have plenty of time to get to the enemies. You do not have to worry about the giant flan either, he will leave you be as long as you don't try and initiate combat.

If you have just gotten to the area, the flans can be quite tough so have a paradigm with cait sith to heal and you should be fine. One other nice thing is this gives you some good stuff to level up your monsters and gives you the chance to get some cool ones in the process.

This achievement requires 100 consecutive preemptive strikes. You will know you got a preemptive strike right away if "Great!" flashes on the screen when you initiate battle. This will occur if you attack while the Mog Clock is still in the green, or if it is yellow and you attack the enemy from behind.

This can be easily boosted easily by finding a non-aggresive enemy to strike (there are some in the very first area of the game), then once you've entered the battle, pause the game and select "Retry" - you'll be placed right outside the battle and can hit them again. Since you don't actually need to finish the battle for it to count, just repeat this quickly 100 times and you're done.

If you somehow make a mistake, you can reload a previous save without voiding the achievement, so it might be worthwhile saving every so often even if you're using the cheap "Retry" method.

For this trophy, achieving it can be quite annoying, but it entirely depends on what you grind/where you grind.

In order to obtain this trophy, you must do a preemptive strike on an enemy 100 times in a row without fail, in order to do a preemptive strike, when an enemy appears, a clock/timer will appear at the bottom, what you need to do is use the cn_X button to hit the enemy, if hit successfully, you will be brought into the battle with a preemptive strike, meaning you and noel both hit an enemy of your own before anything else, filling their chain gauge up halfway. Continue this 100 times in a row without fail and the trophy will be yours.

The ways you can fail is to not hit the enemies in the time and the clock will run out, automatically putting you into the battle, or not hitting them before you run into them/they run into you. I was able to obtain this whilst hunting for a rare monster in Bresha Ruins 100 AF, the reason it was easy for me here is because when the enemies spawned, they didn't run straight into you, so I suggest you find a spot where enemies tend to stand still/don't run into you so quickly, so you have more chance to ready yourself and hit them.

Note for two other trophies you can gain whilst going for this one:

This achievement is for getting 100 pre-emptive strikes in a row, you achieve this by attacking an enemy when they appear on your screen to engage battle and getting the message "GREAT" appear.

Now I know there are solutions above but the way I did it, I managed to knock this achievement out in roughly 30mins with very little risk of messing it up.

I would leave this achievement until one of your last, after you have obtained all fragment pieces.

Once you have all fragment pieces, you want to turn on:
Encounter Master: More Enemies
Clock Master: High Speed

With these turned on you want to go to the level Bresha Ruins -100 AF-

Once there you want to go to this spot in the map:
https://ibb.co/8P1QfbL

when you arrive at the spot (you can also do it in the tunnels I guess), all you need to do is jump twice on the spot with cn_B and then it will spawn enemies around you, run and attack it with cn_A to get the pre-emptive strike. rinse and repeat. Save at every 5 enemies you kill to be safe, if you mess up then press cn_start and then Exit Game.

Avoid the distorted portals, if one appears then just run away, they're a waste of your time and will make it take longer (running away from the encounter does not mess up the achievement progress).

Hope it helps

To get this trophy you need to complete PREEMPTIVE STRIKE 100 times in a row. When monsters appear, you need to point the Left Joystick towards the enemy and press the X button. When you hit a monster, you will see the inscription GREAT! I did this on map AF003 New Bodhum, on the right island, which is closer to the sea. There are only two types of monsters, frogs and slugs. When counting down the time, at first they do not move, so it is very easy to hit them. And I also included Master Encounter in the Fragment Skill menu to make monsters appear faster. I saved the game after every kill of ten monsters. If PREEMPTIVE STRIKE does not work out, load the game and continue from the last saved amount of PREEMPTIVE STRIKE.

You can get it at the very beginning of the game, when Serra can fight on the beach. Choose a simpler monster, a robot or flies. To get it, you don’t need to finish off monsters, do PREEMPTIVE STRIKE once, press pause and select RETRY, you will start a battle with the same monster. He won't have time to come to his senses and you will have time to do PS again. Repeat many times, remembering to save.
