How to unlock the Fair Fighter achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 - Definitive Guide
First off, this achievement can only be obtained whilst playing on Normal difficulty, which to be honest isn't challenging, so Easy mode should just never be touched.
This is for the 'Fair Fighter' achievement, and requires you to beat the rare spawn Raspatil which can be found in Oerba 400AF after you've completed the main storyline, I consistently found the beast on the beach area, slightly east of the stairs, and as with other rare spawns, it'll appear as a distortion rift. It has the following stats:
- 3,666,000 HP
- 500% stagger point
- magic & physical damage halved
- immune to poison, curse, daze
- calls allies (Vampire, Wladislaus, etc)
- employs wounding attacks
Although it looks daunting, this battle can be done with relative ease if this is left until you have a fairly developed party.
The method I used was pretty similar to the one listed in the strategy guide and allowed me to beat it in two staggers, roughly 6 minutes or so. You'll want the Battlemania and Encounter Master fragment skills to improve the chances of you actually managing to find one of these. The first is from getting 100% exploration in all areas for the map collector quest in Acedemia 400AF, the second for getting all fragments from all versions of Yaschas Massif.
As I left this until I'd collected 146 fragments, both Noel and Serah were maxed out, giving them reasonably good stats and health pools of 8500 and 6600 respectively. I had the Odinblade equipped on Noel for the substantially strength and magic stat boost due to having the majority of the fragments and Gandiva on Serah, as for accessories I didn't find them important, I just focused on having a durable collectors catalog on Noel for the boosted rewards.
As for paragrims I used: Twilight Odin - COM (Level 83)
I infused a level 24 tonberry into Odin for the strength and magic +35% passive skills.
Yakshini - SYN (Level 53)
I infused a level 3 Mewmao into it to give the enfire skill, this is essential, I will explain why in the fight strategy.
Apotamkin - RAV (Level 20)
This isn't the most impressive ravager and a blue chocobo reasonably leveled would be a much better option, but this got the job done.
I then used with Serah as party leader with the following paragrims:
RAV - RAV - RAV (Tri Disaster X)
SAB - RAV - RAV (Smart Bomb)
SAB - SYN - COM (Bully)
COM - COM - SYN (Strike Team)
COM - COM - COM (Cerberus)
MED - MED - COM (Discretion)
Now, for the actual fighting method. You should be able to start with a preemptive strike and once in battle you can boost the chain gauge a bit on Tri Disaster before swapping to Smart Bomb if you want, don't spend more than a few turns at most doing this though, debuffing him is vital.
Once in Smart Bomb make sure you get imperil and deshell on the foe. After both of these are on him switch to Strike Team and get the En(element) you infused onto all from Yakshini. If the first wave of summoned monsters have appeared you should wipe them out with ease whilst getting buffed.
Making sure the debuffs are still on the enemy, which they should be if you're relatively quick, make sure Noel and Odin are in green HP for their passive adrenaline abilites and switch to Tri Disaster to stagger the enemy, it should be pretty close from the earlier attacks and debuffs. Once staggered stay in Tri Disaster until it's around 850-950% before switching to Cerberus to do some serious damage, I was hitting around 60k with Noel due to the enfire and imperil combination. You should aim to reach about half it's health before it exits stagger.
Then, just simply rinse and repeat, it doesn't really have any new techniques as you progress through the battle, just make sure that all summoned enemies are beaten quickly to stop it getting a boost for it's Aleph Zero attack. You should be able to beat it within two staggers if you keep all the buffs and debuffs up during stagger.
With the Durable collectors catalog, you receive a massive 100k gil and 3 Scarletites which you can sell for around 56k gil each battle, a pretty good source of money for upgrading expensive monsters like Odin.
If this is too jumbled, please inform me and I'll work on making it a bit clearer.

Do you know if it's possible to switch to normal midway through the game and still be able to fight this battle?

To unlock this achievement, you will have to defeat a rare monster called the Raspatil, which has 3.6 million HP, employs wounding attacks and summons powerful allies to assist it.

For this trophy, you need to defeat the hidden boss Raspatil on Normal Mode, so don't switch to Easy Mode to do this fight.
Raspatil can be found in Oerba 400AF at the top of the stairs that lead down to the beach. Make sure you have Battlemania turned on so Raspatil spawns quicker (Battlemania is a fragment skill that can be obtained after 100% exploring all maps). Before fighting Raspatil, you'll want to make sure that Serah and Noel are either completely or almost completely leveled up in the Crystarium (I recommend having Ravager, Commando, and Medic complete for both of them, and have Serah be mostly through Saboteur). Also, take some Wound Potions and Phoenix Downs into the battle with you just in case.
The monsters that you'll be using should be decently leveled Synergists, Commandos, and Ravagers. Personally, I used Yakshini (SYN), Narasimha (COM), and Koboldroid Yin (RAV), but these are not the only ones that can be used to good effect. Gahongas is another good Synergist because of his feral link (I've also heard that Purple Chocobos are the best choice for this fight), any Commando that does good damage and has decent vitality will work, and as long as your Ravager's vitality is decent then it works too.
Set these as your paradigms:
Espionage (SAB/SAB/SYN)
Cerberus-X (COM/COM/COM tuned to Cross)
Tri-Disaster-X (RAV/RAV/RAV tuned to Cross)
Rapid Growth (SYN/SYN/SYN)
Convalescence (MED/MED/SYN)
Conservation (SEN/SEN/SYN)
Start off with Espionage and try casting Deprotect, Deshell, and Imperil. If these don't stick on Raspatil, just put either Deprotect or Deshell and then move on. Switch to Tri-Disaster-X next and build up the stagger meter. As soon as Raspatil is staggered, have Serah use Ultima Arrow to boost the stagger meter higher. You should try to get as close to 999% as you can, but if it's taking too long, then it's okay to move on once you hit about 700% or so.
When you're done boosting his stagger meter, switch to Cerberus-X and destroy his health meter. When the stagger meter is almost empty again, have Noel use Meteor Javelin for some extra damage, then go back to Espionage. Rinse and repeat.
Of course, it's not that simple, but that's your general outline. In certain cases, you'll have to change your strategy a bit:
- If Raspatil calls for allies, immediately switch to Cerberus-X and take them out as quickly as you can. You can't really afford to leave the other Cie'th hanging around.
- If your health starts getting low, then switch to Convalescence and heal as fast as you can.
- If you start getting too wounded and your health meter isn't big enough to be sustainable, use a wound potion.
- If someone dies, don't give up. Switch to Convalescence and use a phoenix down, then heal and keep going. I had my monster die twice during my try at this trophy and I won comfortably at the end.
- If Raspatil uses Aleph Zero, switch to Conservation immediately and try to guard it. If you don't guard it, don't worry, you'll take less damage anyways due to having two Sentinels active. You'll probably need to heal your monster afterwards as well, so go to Convalescence and heal him a bit.
Here are some general "Don't"s for the fight:
- Don't try to poison Raspatil. He's immune to it so it won't work.
- Don't waste too much time between staggers trying to cast debuffs. They help, but Raspatil will most likely call out more Cie'th if you take too long getting all three of the important debuffs on him.
- Don't ever let the additional Cie'th stick around more than they need to. They will quickly kill one of your party members if you let them linger too long, and they can help Raspatil in other dangerous ways.
- Don't get impatient. This is a battle of patience. This won't be a quick battle for most people, especially if your party members aren't fully leveled up, so just play it smart and you'll live through it.
- With that said, try not to let the battle drag on way too long. The Cie'th that Raspatil spawns get stronger as the battle goes on, so make things easy on yourself and don't keep fighting him for longer than you need to.
When Raspatil is slain, you will get tons of CP and a nice gold trophy for your troubles. Good luck!

This requires that you defeat the rare enemy Rasputil on NORMAL DIFFICULTY. This enemy can be found in Oerba Village 400AF. Again, have the "Battle Mania" skill on to encounter him more quickly (see "Beast Tamer"). If you've already done the "Supreme Being" achievement this shouldn't be too difficult of a fight. Make sure you also have some well-developed monsters with you. Note that the boss can Wound you, so bring Blood Potions to recover the lost health.
