How to unlock the Quick Draw achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 - Definitive Guide

"Significant number" in this case is 50. To get a Preemptive Strike, you simply need to attack the enemy monster while the Moogle Clock is showing the green. This can also be done by circling around the monster and attacking him from behind.

Good solution. Thumbs up. Question though, is there a way to track progress in this game like Gears?

Unfortunately, no. Luckily, the number is relatively low considering how many fights you'll get into over the course of the game, and it's not like you have to do them consecutively.

The Moogle Clock will also stay green if you hit the monster from the front, just as long as you attack him relatively quickly when it first spawns.

This is quite a simple trophy to obtain, as preemptive strikes are VERY helpful in this game.
I'm not sure on the /exact/ number you need, but it's not too much, nor is it as small as 10-20.

In order to perform a preemptive strike on an enemy, you do the following; When an enemy appears as you're exploring, a little clock will appear at the bottom to show you this, run to the enemy BUT NOT into them, just press cn_X so your character does an attack animation, and if you hit the enemy/any enemy, it'll say "great" and you'll initiate battle, starting off with a preemptive strike, which allows you to get first hit and get their stagger bar up halfway or so. Do this as many times as you can and it'll be yours.

Note for two other trophies you can gain whilst going for this one:

You will need 50 preemptive strikes for this achievement. See "Clock Stopper" for more information on preemptive strikes. Note that using the "Retry" option will remove that battle from your count toward the 50 needed. For some reason it does not interrupt the "Clock Stopper" achievement, but it does interfere with this one.

If you are trying to get this trophy by collecting the Clock Stopper trophy, then you definitely need to finish off the monsters, and do not use Retry

You need to start 50 battles with Preemtive Strike (so that the inscription GREAT appears). You can get it by earning the Clock Stopper trophy or simply by playing the game...
