How to unlock the Trigger Finger achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 - Definitive Guide

Trigger Finger: Obtained five Cinematic Bonus rewards

This achievement is awarded for completing all 5 cinematic action sequences (CAS) perfectly. As there are only 5 available, if you fail at one you will have to close the gate and re-do all story-related actions up to the point of the CAS, or reset your console and replay your battle, I will make recommendations for each sequence. Be vigilant, and until the screen comes up saying "PERFECT!", don't look away or put down your controller.

The 5 CAS locations and button inputs are as follows:

Bresha Ruins 005AF - Paradox Alpha
1st CAS: RIGHT
2nd CAS: RIGHT, UP, A
3rd CAS: A (repeatedly)
Easy to close gate and re-load. Will have to when defeating Atlas full strength anyway.
REWARD: Fragment Crystal

Bresha Ruins 005AF - Atlas
RIGHT, B, RIGHT, A, RIGHT, A, RIGHT, A
Easy to close gate and re-load. Will have to when defeating Atlas full strength anyway.
REWARD: Silver Gear

Sunleth Waterscape 300AF - His Royal Ripeness (opening fight)
1st CAS: X
2nd CAS: UP, X, X (repeatedly), B (repeatedly), RIGHT
Easy to close gate and re-load, it is the first event in this area
REWARD: Crystal Heart

Academia 400AF - Zenobia
UP, LEFT + B, RIGHT + B, RIGHT, A (repeatedly)
Much easier to reload your console and replay the battle. Fighting back through Academia would be a chore.
REWARD: Crystal Petal

Augusta Tower 200AF - Proto fal'Cie Adam
RIGHT, UP, RIGHT + B, A (repeatedly) + RIGHT, A (repeatedly)
Again, much easier to reload your save before the boss than complete the tower again, however you will have to fight this boss again once you acquire the paradox scope, so the choice is yours.
REWARD: Crystal Apple

Each perfect completion also comes with a bonus adornment at the end of battle for your captured monsters. Good Luck!

If you aren't sure what cinematic bonus(es) you are missing you can go to the adornment list in your inventory, and see which of the adornment rewards you are missing (the rewards are listed under each section above). Thanks to Espio Idsavant for submitting this information.

Just noticed this, I believe you mean Augusta Tower 200AF for the final one which is part of the story.

You are indeed correct, thanks very much. I will make the adjustment.

If you aren't sure what cinematic bonus(es) you are missing you can go to the adornment list in your inventory, and see which of these adornments you are missing:
Paradox Alpha - Fragment Crystal
Atlas - Silver Gear

For the Paradox Alpha, the last one, I had to press Y repeatedly and not A. I don't know if it's an update thing or random. Just a heads up.

I know I'm 10 years late to the party, but I thought I would point out that you have the rewards for Paradox Alpha and Atlas flipped. I was super frustrated that Paradox Alpha refused to drop the Fragment Crystal until I looked it up elsewhere.

shouldn't this achievement flag as missable?

Great guide ty! When you come back at Academia 400AF for the paradox end your paradox scope is on so you don't play the cinematic. But after the paradox ending, do a save, choice paradox scope to off, don't reopen Acadamia 400AF but reenter in it, you spawn front of proto falcie :) after the first fight its time to cinematic, you can exit the game after if you ve allready pop up this achievment.

Cinematic Bonuses are earned by successfully completing the "Quick-Time Events" (QTE) during boss battles, which means never hitting an incorrect button or waiting too long to hit a button. If you make a mistake during a battle, you can pause the game and choose to retry the battle, or you can simply come back later using the Time Reversal feature. If you've done this successfully, you'll see the message "Cinematic Action: Perfect!" on screen and will receive the reward after the battle with "Cinematic Bonus" written next to it.

The five available rewards come from the five battles below:

  • Episode 2, Bresha Ruins AF005: Paradox Alpha
  • Episode 2, Bresha Ruins AF005: Atlas (Weakened)
  • Episode 3, Sunleth Waterscape AF300: Royal Ripeness
  • Episode 4, City of Academia AF400: Zenobia
  • Episode 4, Augusta Tower AF200: Proto fal'Cie Adam
