How to unlock the Instrument of Flight achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII - Definitive Guide
At the end of Chapter 3 you'll encounter a big flying boss called Garuda Interceptor. He's got a pretty wicked attack that can hit you for about half your life in one shot.
To beat him easily you're going to want to start off the battle using the Libra ability. This will allow your two other characters to use Aero effectively. Keep your Paradigm set to Relentless Assault, and the first version of the boss will go down quickly.
After a quick cutscene, you're ready for version 2. Don't worry about healing because you'll have full life at the beginning of the fight. Keep your Relentless Assault paradigm for the majority of the fight, only switching to your healing paradigm when you notice your character get low on life. It may seem like you aren't doing anything, but eventually the Garuda will reach its breaking point, and the fight will end quickly from there.
From start to finish the fight took me around 8 minutes.
Make your way across the lake and into the ruins of the city. There is only one "branching" path, it is a shortcut through some ruins. Go through it to skip a few battles or try to take the enemy unaware.
1st Boss
Face off against the Garuda. It's an easy fight and you will automatically heal for the 2nd stage of the fight. As always, use Libra at the start of the fight to learn the enemy's weakness. Doing so will allow your NPCs to attack more effectively. After beating it you will chase it to another room and engage again. Repeat what you did in the prior stage of the battle for an easy win.
2nd Boss
The real battle is an Eidolon battle. One will attack you and the other will heal you. You may only interact with the attacker. The tutorial gives you a hint that defensive techniques are the best. Switch to Sentinel and keep using Steelguard. Eventually it's attacks will fill up the Gestalt bar. When that happens, press X to end the battle.
Watch the cinematic and when they are done, bloop!
This is a story related achievement, which will unlock with natural progression through the game.
It will unlock towards the beginning of Chapter 4.
This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed. It will unlock at the beginning of Chapter 4.
The end of Chapter 3 brings the first Eidolon battle of the game against the Shiva Sisters. These battles work differently to normal battles, in that you have to fill a gauge called the “Gestalt Gauge”, and upon filling it press to finish the battle. Eidolons will cast Doom on you immediately, meaning you have to finish the battle before the timer above your head counts down to 0.
This fight is probably the easiest of these battles. Paradigm Shift Snow to a Sentinel and keep spamming the Steelguard ability. Try to time it just before Nix attacks you to maximise the effect. You cannot die as Stiria will be healing you constantly. Once the Gestalt Gauge is full, press to win.
Once Chapter 4 starts and you win a simple battle, this trophy will unlock.
