How to unlock the Instrument of Survival achievement in FINAL FANTASY XIII - Definitive Guide
Make your way through The Gapra Whitewood. At the end, you will face the Aster Protoflorian, a Sanctum annihilator class enemy. This boss takes half damage from all elemental magic. It casts various barelement spells to change it's vulnerability. Hit it with the opposite magic to hurt it. If you can stagger it, you can take off nearly a quarter of it's HP. Summoning an Eidolon at this point can be helpful too. Make sure you have plenty of potions, as it is not always convenient to switch to a medic role.
After you beat it, just keep walking to end the chapter.
This is a story related achievement, which will unlock with natural progression through the game.
It will unlock towards the beginning of Chapter 6.
This trophy is story-related and cannot be missed. It will unlock at the beginning of Chapter 6.
The boss at the end of Chapter 5, Aster Protoflorian, is by far the hardest enemy you will have faced so far. Before the battle, give Lightning Doctor’s Code so that potions heal twice as much health. Use these to heal instantly rather than swapping to a healing Paradigm. Begin with a COM/SYN setup too. As soon as the battle starts, toss a Librascope to discover the boss’ elemental weaknesses, and attack with Lightning until Hope casts Shell and protect on both characters.
The boss will change its elemental strengths (and also weaknesses) constantly throughout the battle, which is why Librascope comes in handy as the game will select the right spell for you automatically if you use Auto-Battle. Once you have Shell and Protect, switch to RAV/RAV until he’s staggered, at which point switch to COM/RAV to maximise damage. After the third stagger, the boss should go down.
Afterwards, walk forward to your destination and the Chapter will end. Upon your first steps in the Sunleth Waterscape, this trophy will unlock.
