As soon as you arrive in the Greatwood (after leaving Cid's hideout), you'll be able to pet Torgal by holding cn_X, just do it 5 times to get the trophy.

You can unlock this once you have visited the Greatwood area. There is a scene here that you will need to press the L3 button where Torgal will show you the way. You may pet her here until the trophy unlocks.
