How to unlock the Love Turts achievement in Firewatch - Definitive Guide
I went into Free Roam, which can be accessed from the main menu and selecting "Special Features" > "Thorofare Free Roam". Select a save slot and proceed into free roam.
From there, I woke up in my tower, "Two Forks", ready to rock. I followed the video below from BitBytes on YouTube, which I take no credit for and thank him for helping me get this achievement.
If you're in Free Roam, fast forward to get the map location which is shown at 0:38 and then follow the video to unlock it. If you are playing the story, then follow the directions on Day 1, as per the video.

This trophy can only be obtained during Day 2. After passing the Cripple Gulch, make your way to Cache Box 309 and loot the items inside and be sure to update your Map information. Once you updated your Map, head towards the west to find a turtle on a rock between two pine trees. Pick the Turtle up with and then press and hold to adopt it, thus unlocking the trophy.
Below is a photo of where the turtle is located at:
If you can't find the above Turtle, then try looking for one of the others (credit to rus199410 for the video):
When the day starts, talk on the radio until you spot fireworks going off in the forest. Head downstairs and you'll want to trek straight ahead from the foot of the stairs, west, to the "Cache 306" labelled on your map. Use code 1-2-3-4 and retrieve the rope.
Keep heading west (when the path forks, the left is fastest). You'll eventually come to a scree slope and be prompted to use your rope. After an incident with the rope, continue west. Push forward past a campsite and through to the lake. Deal with the incident as you see fit, then head north towards "Cache 305". After dealing with the cache, go to the small creek directly north and follow it west towards the lake. At the end of the creek you'll see a turtle on a rock. Press to pick it up, and hold to keep it and earn your trophy.
This can be completed as early as Day 2. When you get to the Aspen Grove at the southern side of the map, look to the north while in the grove for a set of tall pine trees with a rock in the middle. The turtle is on the rock. Walk up to it, pick it up, and hold to adopt it.
