How to unlock the The Life and Times of Raccoon Carter achievement in Firewatch - Definitive Guide

This can be completed as early as Day 76. When you start Day 76, head north toward Beartooth Point. About halfway there (between the words "Thorofare Trail" and "Telephone"), the trail splits once and then again. After the split, look for an old outhouse that is falling apart (it contains the lyrics to Ol' Shoshone inside). From the outhouse, head east and look for an old cabin that is falling apart. Inside, go into the basement and open the stove. A raccoon should jump out and the achievement will unlock.

You don't need the axe. I just wandered up there on Day 76.

If you've already completed the game, do you have to start a new one to have access to these areas again?

TheIceManCummeth, I'm about to find out. I'm loading up free roam now.

Bruv, it worked. I loaded up free roam, and headed to the area in the map the OP pointed out. TheIceManCummeth: You are in luck. Got my 1000 gamerscore.

I just got to this location on day 3 and no raccoon jumped out when I opened the stove. I did see a raccoon earlier near the meadow area but that didn't unlock the achievement either.

Yes, you have to wait. Day 3 is too early. Which is why I specify a day in the solution.

Ok, no problem. smile At the moment it won't let me interact with the stove again so I presume whatever happens between now and then will restore that option.

I earned this on day 1 when I entered the burned cabin and it jumped out at me in the basement and the achievement popped. Was the first one I got in the game.

This can be earned on day one after the firework incident. I got lost trying to find my way back and stumbled upon the burned down cabin.

You don't have to wait. Not sure why it didn't trigger for the player on Day 3 (maybe something else going on in the story?), but I went there on Day 1 and had the raccoon jump out & achievement pop. As you get to the lockbox/cave area to head back to your tower there is a bush on the north side of the clearing you can move out of the way and take the trail up north to the outhouse then east to the cabin. You can't get the song tape that's in the same general area yet as I don't think you can get the axe early, but you can definitely get this achievement (and the pet turtle one) on your first day on the job.

This didn't pop for me the first time I did this, in fact the raccoon didn't even jump out. Not sure why, but wanted to say for anyone this also happened to, can confirm you can go into free roam mode after beating the game and get it that way!

This never popped for me in story mode.

I didn't find it in story mode, and it didn't pop first time round in free roam. Tried starting a second free roam save, and this time it worked. Just keep trying, if it doesn't pop for you the first time round. (I played on PC, xbox game pass)

Wow i've reloaded and opened that damn stove 5 times and still no achievement.

I had to do this three times for it to pop. If you make a save in free roam just before opening the stove you can reload that until it works

For this and other buggy achievements, my found solution: upon the completion of an achievement but it doesn't pop...

Open the Xbox app on your phone. Touch your profile in the bottom right. Then touch Achievements tab and then click on Fire watch. The achievement should unlock in about 5 seconds.

I assume the problem is the game not talking to Xbox servers and checking the game on your app forces it to.

Had the same issue as some others: started a new game and replayed to the day where you use the axe to break into Wapiti Station. While on my way to the fence I took a detour to the cabin and when I reached the trail marker I made a save and copied it. Reloaded the original save and made my way to the stove in the abandoned cabin, let the raccoon out, no achievement. Quit to the menu and reloaded the original save again, this time when the raccoon came out the achievement popped.

You can actually get this as early as Day 3. Instead of boarding up the window at the tower I went northeast to a cabin. Here is a video of it. At the beginning and the end of the video I pull up the map to show where I'm at. The flashlight helps but isn't necessary. It can be found in one of the caches but I forget which one. Just enter the cabin and head down to the basement and approach the stove. Open it and the raccoon will jump out for the achievement.

Yes, Free Roam works great. Free mode is accessed via "Main Menu" > "Special Features" > "Thorofare Free Roam".

Start a free roam game and go to the location marked on the map. Enter the cabin where the arrow is pointing and go down the stairs. Open the stove and a raccoon will jump out and the achievement will unlock.

This trophy can be obtained as early as Day 77. At the start of Day 77, you need to examine the Flora poster and look at the Cottonwood tree as instructed by Delilah. Your new objective will be to head to Cottonwood Creek, but before doing this objective. It's best to obtain two more missable trophies before doing anything else. Make your way back to Cave 452 and then head North until you come to a sign that reads you're 0.2 miles from Beartooth Point. Head towards the right of this sign and you will eventually find an Old Cabin. Open the door using , go inside the old cabin and head downstairs. Walk over to the Old Stove and press to open it. A Raccoon will jump out of it and attack you before fleeing, which will unlock the trophy.

Below is a photo of where the Raccoon is located at:

In order to gain the "The Life and Times of Raccoon Carter" trophy in Firewatch, you must first reach Day 77. Please see my solutions for preceding days if you need help getting to this point. It's worth noting that the below trophy is very close by when going for this one, so it's worth doing both at once:

FirewatchOl' ShoshoneThe Ol' Shoshone trophy in Firewatch worth 31 pointsListened to the tape of "Ol' Shoshone." Cavorted among the aspens.

From your tower, head down the path behind to the cave. On the far side, follow the wires as per Day 2 until you see a sign stating Beartooth Point / Thorofare Fire Lookout (if you've gone for the Ol' Shoshone trophy first, just retrace your steps to the above sign). From here take a sharp right -- you should see an old outhouse. Beyond that is a half-collapsed cabin. Head down the stairs inside and interact with the stove to get your trophy.

On foreign forums they write that you can get it already on the third day, but my oven was empty until day 77 - watch the video

I was the first to unlock this achievement, before the end of the first game day.
In the evening, returning from the lake along the canyon, at the cave I turned left up to the pillars.
Almost in the dark, in a burnt house, I found a raccoon in a closed oven.

If in the story you come across the Old Toilet, turn 180" - you will see a burnt shack. We go down to the basement and open the safe. This must be done on day 77, I found the toilet, but didn’t notice the shack... So I finished it off from the video above in free play it doesn't last long.

I got it for 31 days in an abandoned house, but before that I first met a raccoon in the rocks near the lake.
