The crop circles have to be completed in both single player and multiplayer. You should also make sure to finish the level after completing each crop circle by reaching the quota, so the game saves it.
You unlock the depresser beam after level 25. Place the stone (different to the light one, it has a circle with a smaller circle above and below it) into the hole by each crop circle and depress it to light up a pattern on the crops. Depress the highlighted area and when you've completed it the entire crop patch will flash white and you get a bonus (so you know when youve done it)
The levels that have crop circles are;
Single Player (four in total)
Level 26 (has 2 but only counts for 1 so do both)
Level 42
Level 48
Level 49
Multiplayer (six in total)
Level 9
Level 10

Some of the multiplayer ones have the re-growing grass that makes it a bit awkward to do alone so I found it helps if both players depress the field together.

I have burned the field where it flashes but nothing happens. I don´t know what I need to do here.
EDIT: After trying for quite some time I realised that I just did not burn up the field enough. The grass that grows back also counts if it shows that when you lit up the stone.

Also note for the multiplayer levels. you must use the depressor and finish the puzzle with your main account. i had to redo then because of that.
