How to unlock the Win World Cup achievement in Football Manager 2006 - Definitive Guide
If you are struggling to get this achievement legit, then you have two options:
1. Save before every game, reloading if you do not win/progress.
2. Control multiple teams, preferably ones that have a good chance of winning the World Cup - e.g. Italy, France, Brazil, Germany, Argentina.
Edit: You cannot wait until the final is decided and then take control of both finalists. The achievement will NOT pop. Thanks to https://www.trueachievements.com/davechambers87.htm.

You cannot wait until the final and take charge of both teams. I took control of England just before the third game in the group stages and went on to win the world cup and no achievement popped.

Strangely I waited until the final and controlled both teams as a new user and got the achievement.

As the achievement says. win the World Cup. England in my opinion are the best option, I believe the game favours the English with better computer created football talent after the best players retire. They are also a good option early on, as are Brazil and France.
