In order to unlock 'Golden Generation,' you must win a domestic league with a squad that includes at least four players who came through the ranks at your club after you took charge.
In order to accomplish this:
- Utilize a club with good or exceptional youth facilities/coaching, such as Man Utd, Southampton, etc.
- Ensure that your youth players get at least 5 appearances in the league during your title-winning season to earn a player's medal
-You can limit your youth player's appearances to those from off the bench, or start them against significantly weaker teams

Just to make sure I'm understanding this right, can you promote players from the reserve squad to senior squad in the first season or do they have to be from the youth intake toward the end of the first season to count?

From my understanding, the players in question must be newgens that have come from Youth Intake --> Reserves --> First Team *after* you have taken charge at the club. Utilizing reserve team players in your first season probably won't do it for you.
Most leagues have minimum appearances for a winner's medal - this may factor as well. For instance, the Premier League requires at least 5 appearances. I believe this is how the game calculates whether they are part of the title-winning squad - not the fact that they have been promoted to the first team in and of itself.
