This is a little bit luck of the draw.
What I did was sign a striker through the recruitment page that is better than all my other strikers.
Use a fairly pants striker as a starter (this may confuse fans, but how cares about them right now?) Then at half time put on the best striker, they normally react positively to prove why you should have started them. This is the best way to earn it as I've tried this in three games now and he scored in every game after being used as a sub.
