How to unlock the Unspeakable Horrors achievement in Fortnite - Definitive Guide
Unspeakable Horrors - for this magical achievement you need to kill 20,000 mist monsters which well is alot any way you look at it.
Mist monsters
-Smashers - big blue hulk looking guys, they scream and charge at objective or you after they are injured, to kill just keep shooting them.
-Takers - hovering/flying things the can create portals and appear behind you (i rarely see them do this) the will dive bomb/fly at you slapping you repeatedly aim for its face when it does for head shot bonus
-Flinger - these guys will spawn in and run behind a hill or building and throw husks over fort walls, fastest way to kill them is melee weapons.
-Blasters - they are the tall thin ones with glowing purple eyes, they will keep their distance and shoot purple lasers at you in quick succession (6 -8). aim for its head to you stun it and soon kill it
-Mimics - they initially look like a loot chest but will slightly "jump/bounce" and growl at you, once completely searched they will transform and attack. i use shotguns cause they have a large head...its a chest head
(Not 100% sure mimics count some people say they do then others no) I included it here and kill them just in case they do,sorry for any confusion with this.
keep at it and good luck

Yeah there's a few caves like that I've found.
places say they are mist monsters and others say they aren't but I thought I'd included them just in case I'll edit it to say so now.

Mimics do NOT count! (They do not count towards mist monsters when you have this mission)

A tip that I'm experiencing that may help out people going for this achievement. If you plan on doing this achievement along with all the others, this isn't something you need to focus on. In the higher Twine levels, you'll be killing an average of 30-40 mist monsters a game, maybe more depending on the type.
That being said, if you're in an early level like Plankerton or Canny, please don't feel the need to grind this achievement, as you'll have PLENTY of mist monsters to kill in Twine.

***250+ Mist Monsters per solo 'Destroy the Encampments' mission***
This is my setup for 250+ kills per mission solo.
- Private match
- P/L 80+
- Outlander Hero
- 50% level 4 ceiling traps, 50% level 3 (as a minimum; use higher level if you have the inventory)
- Level 4 guns
- Level 5 Hero's and Defenders
- Early Canny (58 pl or less)
Protocol:
- Destroy first 5 encampments as quickly as possible(Use the Outlanders warp/ rush ability and your hoverboard) . You cannot fail the mission now.
- On the 6th:
- Before triggering, place 3 defenders with sniper rifles or assault rifles at a suitable distance(
e.g. where spawning enemies won't auto destroy them but such that enemies will be in
range once they spawn).
- By now your defenders will have triggered the encampment. Ignore enemies and build a metal roof over all spawn areas. Build a wall(may only be 3 pieces in length) beyond the spawn, then a ceiling linked to that wall. Do not let all three waves complete! (see below)
- You may need to do this over the course of two triggerings( read on for def of 'triggering'; it's
not a reference to the art of taking offense by millenial or gen-y snowflakes ;))
- Add your celing traps. Upgrade the entire structure peices to their maximum. Again, this
will likely be done over the course of 2/3/4 encampment triggerings.
- Your setup will now kill enemies VERY quickly, dependent upon how well you have placed your structures.
- A few seconds after the spawning of each third wave, use the Outlanders rush/warp(?) ability to leave the area of the encampment, and rush to re-enter. The encampment will have reset
upon your leaving of the area.
- Shoot the encampment to trigger another 3 waves: I find it best to warp right to the tower and shoot it.
-Rinse, repeat

Since the patch where traps have been nerfed this is no longer a very effective method.

To add on to what NicoRobinsGhost said if you are strictly going for this achievement I find mid-plank/early canny encampments to be the best "farming" spots.
Recently encampments got changed to be different sizes with different husks. For example a "Small encampment" I have yet to see have any kind of mist monster and mainly consists of mini-husks/normal husks. This is why you will want to do 40+ encampments and make sure to do at least 4/5 to ensure you complete the mission. Why?
Higher power level encampments spawn more mist monsters(Currently in 58+ encampments I get 2-4 of them and that's not even on the 5th one!)
In mid level(40PL+) encampments most encampment "waves" will have at least 1 mist monster increasing with each encampment you destroy. The trick is to abuse these wave spawns by running away before you kill the last remaining husks.
Ideally what you'll want to do is complete all but the 5th encampment(Until you feel you are ready(You MUST complete the missions so make sure to do it before the time runs out)). When you get to the last one(encampment 5/5) I believe it has 3 waves. So kill all the mist monsters on wave 1,2 and 3 but on the 3rd make sure not to kill as much of the normal husks. Simply walk away and you will be warned "You are about to leave an encampment zone!". This will reset the encampment and you can farm the mist monster kills over again!
A Rescue Trooper Soldier is my go-to main hero for the amazing self healing(Survivalist), extra AR damage/reload speed/recoil managment/frags/commando/shockwave/debilitating shots and nice resistance(Heavily Armored). You can use what you want for your support/tactical slots but i'd say berserker(Support) for more AR damage or survivalist(support) for more damage mitigation.
For your tactical it really doesn't matter much. Happy hunting!
Edit: Can confirm what Cliff or Carrie said in NicoRobinsGhost's solution comment section. You only need to get at least 1 hit on a mist monster, you do NOT need to get the final blow. I tested this by looking at how many kills I had using stormshieldone website, ran an encampment mission using a weak smg with no element/damage over time perks and just shot each mist monster from the camps once. I was at 4601 and after I had 4636.

Unspeakable Horrors - for this achievement you need to kill 20,000 fog monsters.
Mist monsters:
-Smashers - big blue hulk.
-Flinger
-Blasters - they are the tall thin ones with glowing purple eyes.
The easiest and fastest way to get the achievement is to launch your Home Base Storm SHIELD and survive the waves in a test of endurance. In this mode, you can kill 20,000 fog monsters much faster than just completing missions. That's how I got this achievement.

There is no need to focus on this trophy. Most likely, the trophy will be completed first of a squad of large cumulative trophies.
It’s not just the monsters that we destroy ourselves that count. Also counted are monsters that were destroyed by our comrades, and we managed to inflict at least some damage on them to the monster.
Most fog monsters can be found on missions to protect the shield, starting from the Prophetic Valley location. On shields in the stone forest and plankerton locations, we see these mobs much less often.
In game chat, such requests appear regularly. Protecting the shield is one of the easiest and fastest missions in the game (as long as you don't exceed your character level). I do not advise you to ignore requests for help in protecting them.

If you play for platinum and have already helped everyone who helped you and still haven’t reached 20,000 foggy, I suggest the following method:
go to the Prophetic Valley location as a question mark on the map and select a quick game. The advantage is that you can farm an additional 1000 joint missions, which are needed for another trophy.

If you play for platinum and still haven’t reached 20,000 foggy, I suggest the following method:
-- in the option Type of network game - set it to closed - - At the Prophetic Valley location - select the mission Destroying portals - destroy the first 5 portals to win the mission - starting with additional portals, when monsters appear, shoot only foggy ones, usually 2 of them, run away from portal to a distance (an inscription appears that you have moved a long distance from the portal), it is reset, you return to the portal and, again, 2 fog monsters ran away, 2 fog monsters ran away, during the game you can actually collect 60-80 fog monsters.
PS if anything is not clear, write and I’ll explain
I recommend playing as a ninja with a pumped-up shotgun and the team skill Soaring Mantis (4 jumps)

As far as I remember, the fog monsters are those big zombie monsters. It is recommended to complete this trophy at the end as it is the longest and most tedious. It counts if you killed a monster or dealt damage to it before its allies killed it.
