Speed skills are performed by travelling at 100mph+ for over 450meters. Perform 5 of these and the achievement is yours.

perhaps easy enough to figure out, but you don't get to do the skills until you finish the first race and then leave the garage for the first time.

All of the "skill" achievements are incredibly easy and you shouldn't even have to try for most of them. I unlocked this achievement during my second race in the game.
You'll know when you have performed one of the "skills" because it will display a little score near the top of the screen for it. In the case of the speed skills, it will say things like "Good speed!", "Great speed!" and "Awesome speed!"

Speed skills are obtained when you drive at or near top-speed in your car. The longer you stay in speed without wrecking, the more speed skills you will obtain. Do this five times to unlock the achievement.
