How to unlock the How Long Was That Runway? achievement in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast Furious - Definitive Guide
Once you've acquired all 10 of the cars you will unlock the last event which is a showcase event against the cargo plane which is located near the garage. Complete the event by finishing ahead of the Cargo plane in the event standings to unlock this, you do not need to beat the AI cars so long as you finish ahead of the Cargo plane.
If needs be you can lower the AI difficulty and don't forget your rewinds from pressing if you mess up. I also highly suggest turning off assisted braking. The race lasts about 3minutes.
This will be familiar to Horizon 2 players and even easier with nitrous. Save the Nitrous () for the final stretch of the runway just incase you need it.

Good call about saving the nitrous. I really think the AI cars are programmed to stay ahead for most of the track, even on easy. and the airplane is programmed to meet the runway just before you. And since you got the worst of the 10 cars, nitrous is what is needed!

After playing horizon 2 for 168+hours I can tell you yes the AI is somewhat programed to give you a challenge up to about 90% of a race, then they kind of give up. On easy at least
Forza 4 had the best AI, set to easiest on the first lap cars would go careering off the first corner if you were behind them

In my opinion, this is the most difficult achievement in the game (if you consider any of the achievements to be difficult at all) and it's much harder than the Xbox One version's.
In order for you to be able to unlock the How Long Was That Runway? achievement, you must first complete all other race events and acquire all 10 cars. After that, you will gain access to the final race event called "Deliver The Cars". You must complete this race event in 1st place. There are other cars in this race but you don't have to necessarily beat them. The objective is to beat the Cargo Plane but you will end up beating the other racers (cars) anyways. Before you start this race event, click on the Difficulty option and use these recommended settings:
Game Difficulty: Custom
Braking: ABS Off (ABS On for inexperienced drivers)
Steering: Normal
Traction Control: On
Shifting: Automatic
Driving Line: Full
Cosmetic Damage: Off
Rewind: On
Opponent Difficulty: Easy
After you have changed the Difficulty settings you can start the race event. In this race you are forced to use the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T and the handling of the car is terrible compared to the other cars in the game. Now because the handling isn't too good, you don't want to hold in the acceleration because the rear-end of the Charger will spin out of control. You'll want to brake early on the corners with your normal brakes, not the E-Brake. It's also best to not crash at all to avoid getting too far behind the Cargo Plane. If you happen to crash or if you mess up anywhere, then press and hold to rewind. I didn't use rewinds at all and I probably should have because this achievement took me several attempts.
Notes:
One of my best suggestions is to turn off the Camera Motion Effects in the Options/Settings menu. I say this because I think it affects your driving.
Also, some people have an easier time with Braking turned to ABS Off and others have an easier time with Braking turned to ABS On. If you're an inexperienced driver, you may want to switch the Braking to ABS On. I DO NOT recommend changing Braking to Assisted because it forces you to slow down on every turn and you'll end up too far behind the Cargo Plane.
Hopefully my solution has helped you.

Makes perfect sense regarding the controls. I will try this when I am next on. The plane can be pesky and tricky . I did it in 3.30 to 3.33 to begin with and the plane always beat me by half a second or less; but then I did it in 2.22 and the plane still managed 2.21. It is all about timing and not messing up rather than speed.

Just follow the exact setting after more than 10 attempts to win this last achievement before. With the suggested setup, i just behind the plane for 0.3-0.5s for 2 times, won the achievement for 3rd time finally!!

This showcase event will be familiar to Horizon 2 players as its identical to the one in that.

All credit for this solution goes to FJMatlock.
After trying many times to get this on my own I got on here and tried the solution posted by Just AmazN. I did better but still couldn't quite get it. Then I read a comment left by FJMatlock.
What you want to do is turn assisted braking and assisted steering on. He said he got it his second try after turning those on. It still took me a few tries but I did get it using this method. Also, you will want to make good use of the rewind feature. If you crash at all you will need to hit y and correct it. I also had traction control turned on and of course game difficulty was set to easy.
Since his method helped me out I felt it might help others as well and decided to post it as a solution.

Yeah, I'm going to put my vote in on this method. Gosh, I hate simulated racers. Only because it was Fast And Furious did I give this a go...

Okay so here's my solution to getting it, for a vast majority of the game I played with assisting breaking and steering on except for certain events like the chopper race, the bugatti 205mph speed challenge AND the cargo plane race. I looked the guides and none of them helped me (unfortunately), I had kinda given up on seeing if I could do it so what I did was turn off assisted breaking and steering and then go through the course with practically no bumps into the wall. I honestly did my best to follow the path that is highlighted and made sure to break when the path went red. When I finally got to the landing strip, I held my trigger very hard (as if that would help) and then I managed to beat the plane. At this point, I had tried about 11 times and failed every time except for with what I just said. With assisted breaking and steering, I managed to lose by .4 of a second each time and it was very frustrating! I hope this helps some of you get this tricky achievement!
Story related, cannot be missed.
Story related, cannot be missed.
Unlocks after completing the showcase in which you must beat a cargo plane in a checkpoint race from Nice to the airfield. This is the final story related achievement.

Before starting, in the difficulty settings, select LOW game difficulty settings. During the race, try not to knock down obstacles and hit the walls. Brake only by releasing your finger on the gas when turning. When you reach the runway, leaving the hangar, immediately drive strictly only along the green line for the direction of travel, and so on until the finish line. And you don’t have to ride under wings, as some smart people here advise. And you will be happy. The game is easy, in about four hours you can go through the whole thing without straining and get all the achievements.
