There is an alternate method to get this without having to enter an actual race event. Pick the car and go into free roam. Start a Head-to-Head race with a Drivatar, win the race and the achievement is yours!

The Ford Ranged is the 4x4 that you are given upon entering Storm Island, once you have made your way to the Festival Services to unlock Welcome to Storm Island in Forza Horizon 2 you can begin your first race for the first championship, simply win and this achievement is yours.

The 2014 Ford Ranger is given to you when you first enter Storm Island, so next choose the Extreme Offroad championship within tier six and continue to win the event for the achievement.
