Gauntlet events are unlocked after winning 2 championships in each tier of the career.
A Gauntlet event is a one race event that from what I can tell is a point-to-point race in extreme conditions (Fog, Heavy Rain and Night). The race isn't too difficult if you pay attention to whats coming and keep and eye on the map.
