How to unlock the Going Supernova achievement in Forza Horizon 3 - Definitive Guide

For the King of the Mountain (KotM) races, I recommend creating a blueprint so you can select whichever car you prefer. Make sure you blueprint one with the weather to "Blizzard" and use the 1966 Ford F-100 Flareside Abatti Racing Trophy Truck so you can unlock the "Needs More Blizzard" and "It's Still Got It" achievements.

Leading up to 100 stars (before you get the Ford Gymkhana), I used the #2 Audi Sport Quattro S1. It's good for getting the challenge scores on KotM, and gets good speed and control for completing races quickly. For the danger signs, you might as well grab the 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 (since you need it for the What's "Safety" achievement) and equip it with a good off-road tune. Once you unlock and complete the Kingmaker event (at approx. 100 stars), you unlock the Ford Gymkhana 9 Focus RS RX, which is great for finishing drift zones and other challenges. For the speed traps on straights, with a good run, the Lancia Stratos mentioned above should do the trick. For the other speed zones, I went with the Gymkhana, again. For the Tight Bends Speed Zone, I got a good run from a North East position and ploughed through some trees, used my rewinds to get slow enough to get my nose through the gate. For the Sharp Descent speed zone, ride, don't slide. I tried several different vehicles for this, but the Gymkhana for the win, again.

Here are the vehicles that I used that you might prefer:
- #2 Audi Sport Quattro S1 (KotM and drift)
- Ford Gymkhana 9 Focus RS RX (speed and drift)
- Ford F-100 Flareside Abatti Racing Trophy Truck (drift and speed {+ weight} + also linked to "It's Still Got It!" achievement)
- Lancia Delta S4 Group B (personal, initial choice)
- Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 (danger zones + also linked to "What's Safety?" achievement)
- Nissan Titan Warrior Concept ("Snowdown" achievement)
- RJ Anderson #37 Polaris RZR-Rockstar Energy Pro 2 Truck ("Personally, I Prefer the Air" achievement)
- Subaru #199 WRX STI VT15R Rally Car ("Snowboating" achievement)
- Subaru Impreza 22B STI Horizon Edition w/ Drift Skills boost (drift and speed zones)

Idea from xPandorasRagex - For those having trouble with drift scores, try looking at your settings and ensure STABILITY CONTROL is OFF.

Another tip for drift scores is try to equip a high-class tune, since most vehicles with snow tires won't drift well in the lower classes.

KotM tip from MushaConvoy - If you're having a hard time with any KotM challenges, finding a co-op friend, you can take turns completing the challenge, while the other wins. As long as you don't get in last place and your partner wins, you'll get a team win. :D

Personally, I prefer Don Joewon Song's because he makes a living out of creating tunes for these games, so they're GOOD.

If you have any problems or edits that are needed, please comment or message me. Best of luck. If you negative vote, please leave a reason. Feel free to like my solution, if you feel it's helped you. Also, if you feel like sporting some TA designs, follow TrimSkink DSG as a creator. Represent!

Big thanks to xPandorasRagex and MushaConvoy for their improvements.

I dont know if it's me or if the drivatars are whole lot harder. I have a fully upgraded rally car and truck set for these expeditions, and they are killing me on easy difficulty. Am I suppose to get all 3 stars in one go or can I come back for the challenges in the expeditions? Fuck this insanely difficult POS DLC!

There were definitely times that I wanted to delete friends off my friends list because of this. I found using the #2 Audi Sport Quattro S1, I was (eventually) able to complete the challenges on a much easier difficulty than I'd used to complete the base game. It's my understanding that you have to win and complete the challenges in one run. The slingshot and one of the skill points challenges gave me the hardest time, but sometimes, giving it a rest, or trying it with a lower class vehicle may help.

Thanks. I'll try the Audi sport upgrade. I've completed the PR stunts and bucket lists with little problems. Some of the exhibitions I can blaze right through and I would easily win the race. Then I'll get those where it's not worth trying as there would be one specific drivatar that WILL beat you.

I do some baking for a friend, and when I went to his place to drop off a tray of brownies, he almost threw it back at me because I kept beating him, badly, in each KotM race. Exhibitions and Championships follow the difficulty pretty well, but some of the King races were a chore. Might be worth trying with a co-op buddy as an interceptor, so you can rack up points and slow down the competition.

So, I haven't seen anyone comment as yet, but if you play the Kingmaker races in Campaign Co-op, have your awesome buddy drive and win, leaving you to focus on the challenges. So long as you don't come last, you're still credited for the [team] win and obtaining the challenge (ie, all 3 stars). Repeat it the other way around so your awesome buddy gets 3 stars too.

Also, you can create race blueprints with more laps so you have more time to complete the challenge and win the race

I believe I used the Gymkhana on this one. I think this is one of the ones that gave me issues till I switched to KPH (rather than MPH). Drift as little as possible because a lot of speed and momentum is lost with the drift. I managed to squeeze by on this one at 113.12 KPH (Barely passed). Try from downhill and get a good run for base speed, cut the track on the right, as much as you can without failing. the more you do, the less you have to backtrack on your turn. Hope this helps.

I didn't really look for a guide until I was nearly done with this. I didn't use any pro tunes, just upgraded cars on my own and that was enough to get almost all stars. However, I had problems with just a few races which required 250K points and some requiring a particular stunts, e.g. showoff, etc., a set number of times. This is probably obvious, but you can edit a new race and just increase the number of laps to give yourself more time to get the points/stunts. I had no problem completing my problem races doing this.

Any idea on how to get "exceptional clean races"? I get that you get clean races by not crashing into other people, but I'm kinda stuck in a race that requires me to get 3 exceptional clean races.. the worse part is that each appear to be random -_- maybe I can not crash and it gives me an exceptional around 20% into the race, or maybe it doesn't give me any in the whole race.. any tips?

Nagnirnahs, you are referring to the "Ultimate" Clean Racing. Just play on an easy level, get out in front and don't crash into anything. The Ultimate skill just keeps popping up every minute. Once you crash, it starts over and you have to work your way back up to Ultimate. So just don't crash. I believe the order goes, Clean Racing, Great Clean Racing, Awesome Clean Racing and finally Ultimate Clean Racing.

Any tips on sharp descent and precipice speed zones? What control settings etc? Slow or fast, e brake or left trigger?

By C3LLDW3LLER on 30 Aug 2017 12:45
For sharp descent, I mentioned in the solution ride, not slide, meaning don't e-drift (use LT), try to keep traction as much as possible.
For the precipice speed zone, I mentioned in one of the comments to do the same, no e-drift, (use LT) and go for this downhill. I used the Gymkhana for both.

By RAVENxSPEEDSTER on 16 Sep 2017 17:58
@Xonatron - Pick a spot within the race with a guard on the outer edge. Rewind a decent amount so your points will be able to accumulate again, ride in, start your drift and gently tap a guard rail with your tail end. Any spot should work, with practice.
@FLASH - I used the Audi Sport Quattro, mentioned above, for a majority of the King of the Mountain events. For the rest, I used the Gymkhana.

For this achievement, you need all stars for Blizzard Mountain. Make sure you go over all races for wins/challenges and all the PR zones. I know I needed to redo the King of the Mountain race for the challenges in that race. Hope this helps.

160/160 and stuck at 98%...
Forced closing game, deleted local save and nothing worked...

By andreluigo on 14 Oct 2022 20:47
It's not supposed to work by deleting the local save. You need to delete to start the whole game again and get another star. If you have just one Xbox, you need to leave this achievement for last.

@Tatl360 I have another Xbox SS.... Is there any way to get this without losing all save?
0
0
By andreluigo on 17 Oct 2022 19:22
I am not entirely sure. I didn't start to tinker with the save file manipulation yet. I was told to do it offline, so change Xbox to offline, delete local save and play until you get a star on Blizzard Mountain. Then the achievement should unlock when you connect the Xbox. After getting the achievement you need to quickly delete the save file again (with he game still playing, this closes the game), so it doesn't overwrite the Cloud save. Then when you launch again it will pull the Cloud save.
0
0
By Tatl360 on 18 Oct 2022 15:08
If it overwrittes the Cloud save with the save you just played offline, then you lost your save. That's why keeping it in anther Xbox can solve this. By deleting both the Cloud and the local. Then you go to your backup Xbox and start the game, updating the Cloud with the local save that should be the only save available for that game. But no one confirmed me this with certainty. Need to test it first with another game: Start Pac Man or something, sync two Xboxes, make sure they are the same save (mute music or something and make sure they are the same). Then delete Cloud and local in one Xbox. Then try to update the Cloud with the other Xbox. If it works, then Forza will work, "probably" laugh

I thought I was stuck at 160/160 with no achievement as it didn’t pop for a few minutes. I didn’t fast travel, drove around a little bit after gaining my last star needed, and then parked for a few minutes listening to music (not in the menus). Thankfully it popped for me a few minutes after sitting there parked.

By darkavenger786 on 03 Apr 2017 09:32
Just to ellaborate on the "Tight Bends Speed Zone", I pretty well had to cheese it. Use your rewinds and go off-road to get started. There are many trees you can destroy and you can cut the corners on this pretty good. For the "S" bend, try to straighten it out as much as you can. There are some indestructible trees in your path, so you'll have to improvise a bit. If you fail, due to being too off course, rewind. This challenge, I found had a larger target area than most, so while being a really tough challenge, knowing the trees and spots considered "off-course", you should be able to squeeze by. Sometimes, switching from MPH to KPH helps, for me.

thanks for the great guide, but I'd like to add for those that are having trouble. small cars with allot of power do well in blizzard mountain, like the nomad just get the right tune, and it will do pretty much everything there, best offroad works well for me. for the skill points medal races, set 8 laps to be safe feather gently when drifting the nomad it works wonders with traction and stability set to off. for the 3 slipstream overtakes i find it easier using the focus ken block edition, and play on hard driver ai setting. stay at the back and close in to slipstream, then just successfully overtake without clipping, and win. make sure stability is on, traction off for more speed and control.

This was crazy helpful, I was really struggling with the Hoonigan Ford Focus but with the Aventador, tune and video guide it was beyond easy. Thanks so much.
For anyone after me that sees this it's the Aventador LP700-4 for the speed zones not the DLC one. Also I couldn't find the tune in suggested but found it straight away by searching for the author Koyori.

This solution relates specifically to the races with the third star for skill score

Personally, I struggled a lot with the skill score goals on the races. Here's what I found to be a good solution:

Car: Ford Gymkhana 9 Focus RS RX (Ken Block one)

Tune: Use one of the top rated ones, Don Joewon Song if possible!

Set Up

Drivertar Diffiuculty - New Racer
Traction Control - Off
Stability Control - Off

These two make it easier to drift!

Now for each race..

1) Load up the blueprint screen.
2) Press LB to select championships for your current car.
3) Select the Ford Championship (this puts you againt GT40s, GTs and trucks which are incomparable in speed)
4) If the race has laps, select around 5 laps to make sure you have plenty of time.
5) Make the weather clear, just makes life easier!
6) Start up the race.

The key to Point to Point races is to build a large combo from the start, so if you crash, restart the race.

The drivatars should be so slow you should easily build up a big lead and have plenty of time to fit in lots of drifts, e-drifts and wreckage!

Let me know of any way I could improve this solution :)

Great tipps, thanks! I would add, that you can updgrade your Skills Tab for the car you are using. Late in the game I have 90+ available points. Faster and higher Multiplyer does help a lot.

Problems may arise with the star for gentle touching, where you need to gently touch the obstacle in the skid... barely touch it. Everything else is basically simple.

There is no need to touch anything gently there. The task is extremely simple - during a skid you need to touch the fence at speed with the back of the car, or better yet, with the wheel.

MacFli writes “a gentle touch, as if the most difficult thing”; it is not necessary to catch the moment with the touch of the bump stop (there is also rewind) It is much more difficult to score 250,000 points in a race. Create a race for your favorite car and it’s much easier to recruit.

The achievement may glitch and not open.
Received 160/160 stars, received a reward car RAM 2013, but the achievement never opened (99% of the progress of this achievement).
The final race and the final championship were completed three times - the achievement does not open.
