How to unlock the Scavenger achievement in Forza Horizon 4 - Definitive Guide

Car Drops are random points that appear in the world in different locations from game to game and each drop can be only used once per game so make sure you get to them quickly before someone else steals them from you. A Car Drop is identified by three blue flares, three drones and three banners. Driving up to a Car Drop and pressing cn_X will change your car into the one shown. Cqr Drops may either give you a better car or a worse car, so unless you just want the achievement, don't bother going for the worse ones. The achievement will pop up eventually after you play more of The Eliminator and go for other achievements and rewards. Depending on your luck you may get 0-2 per game, maybe more, using 100 of these will unlock the achievement.

According to HomelyBumRocket, some notable areas where you might expect to find car drops are:
• Mudkickers
• Mortimer Gardens
• Quarry
• Bamburgh Castle

I'll give those a look. Either they were already taken or they just didn't spawn there but I rarely see any throughout the map

Mudkickers and Mortimer Gardens are also decent areas with maybe a few cars laying around, but I've also had games where none of those spots have car drops at all, so it's pretty random.

I'm getting virtually no drops from any of these locations. 8 matches (2 wins) and I've only ever had 13 drops!! Most in the wild.

@NoHeroes94 same here, I'm lucky if I find a rank 2-4 vehicle in the wild. Yet other people are finding rank 7s and 8s within a few seconds of starting!!

Same, I have never seen a rank 7+ drop. The highest being a rank 6 maybe 2 or 3 times

I only seen 1 rank 7 drop. The most drops i got in 1 game was 7, or 8 i believe

I'm at around 80 drops now and I've never seen a drop above level 6. Quarry is the most successful spawn place. Otherwise I just drive around a bit randomly. Managed to get 11 in one game but haven't had that luck since.

ScorchPSO, anything above level 6 is probably super rare. I only saw 2 level 7 drops out of who knows how many and nothing else above that

I've picked up a level 9 drop before. They are just rare.

Mine has stopped tracking as well at 50 cars. Has anyone else managed to fix this?

Upon restarting the console, the tracking has gone up again

Can also confirm lvl 9 drops are possible. Found a Lambo Aventador in the middle of a match, even took a print out of surprise.

If you stick to the roads in the area more on the west side of the map and just cruise up and down there are tons of drops beside random buildings on the side of the highways.

One spot I got 3 drops in under a minute, I usually am getting 3-7 drops a match right now.

Now I've finished the DLC, I personally feel that one of the best general areas for car drops is the north side of the map. I would drop at Mortimer Gardens (top left). Even if there are no drops there (which there normally is 1-2), moving north-east from there takes you to a very hilly and open area, making it super easy to pick out drops from the distance. I managed to get 38 cars in 7 matches this way!

My advice

Mortimer Gardens - usually 1/2

Drive down the long straight to the left of Derwent Water - usually 1/2

Ambleside - usually 1-4

Then east to the Horizon Festival site - usually 2-6

I’ve twice got 10 drops in a single game

Also, bite the bullet and take every drop regardless of if it takes you from a level 9 car to a 2 (subject of course to you having all the other achievements).

express railyard usually spawns 3-4 at the start of a game

I love the implications of the ratio here, as though this achievement is somehow more difficult than managing to find a level 10 car

A couple areas I've found to spawn that usually have a couple car drops are the Quarry and the beach next to Bamburgh Castle. At Bamburgh, there are potential spawns from the Lighthouse to the north all the way down the beach, in the castle itself, and across the street too. A couple times I've been able to snag four cars there.

I may be a little late to this but I want to add something:

As the match goes on, old drops disappear and relocate into the circle. Around the mid-game drops are plentiful if you don't mind giving up any chance of winning to collect them all. Seems to die down again for the late-game.

So I am not 100% on this, so please provide feedback on your experiences. If you see gray smoke, this is where a Car Drop should spawn the next time the circle stops moving. The only exception I have seen on this is if it is too far outside of the next circle. So, if you see one and the circle is moving, you can camp out on it for the next one.

Also, I have noticed it does tend to reuse the same Car Drops in the same round, so if the circle is getting ready to move/is moving and you just picked up a car, you have a good chance of getting the next one with camping out.

@WhoIsJohn117 - I'm going to be on the lookout for this while I'm cleaning up this achievement. I thought those smokes sometimes appear when someone beats you to the drop but then again, not all picked up drops seem to have them >.<

*Edit: I can confirm that the gray smoke trail does appear after a drop has been picked up and it indicates a potential new drop after the zone finishes closing. Someone grabbed a drop and I grabbed another one nearby. I sat in front of one of them with a view of the other and waited for the zone to close. As it finished, the one in the distance (facepalm of course) spawned a drop.

As for more locations or methods for finding drops:
-common sense but be sure to use your right stick to look around as you're driving from zone to zone. Sometimes it's worth that detour to find a few drops on the way
-barn finds are possible spawn points so be on the lookout as your move towards the next zone
-may have been mentioned before but as the zone closes, drops outside of the zone are relocated in so try to survive to the final showdown if possible
-not that it matters, but higher leveled cars (6's) are usually in the tree lines off the beaten path it seems
-I like following people that are in a head-to-head because I'll be relatively safe and drops are common along their path towards the center
-my favorite area to search is West/North-West of Glen Rannoch (top-left area of the map). People hate the mountain ranges for their head-to-heads and avoid it like the plague unless the final circle is nearby. Then I progress South-West if zone permits to Mortimer Gardens

I think one of my best drop pick-up matches, I was able to snag about 15-20 drops and made it to the final showdown. Not wanting to participate in the showdown, I just drove outside the zone within the 30 seconds of safety.

A moment of hilarity, as we were nearing a final showdown and I was in a level 10 vehicle, I swapped it for a level 2 Track-Tor right in front of a guy with a level 7 or 8 vehicle hoping for an upgrade challenge. Oops!

A couple of tips for easy grind:
1. Drops are much more likely to spawn near paved roads, so at the beginning of the event the long stretch of road near the beach has the potential of at least 3-4 drops.
2. Know where the barn finds locations are? well there seems to be at least 1 drop right in front of a barn find location.
3. The town where your first house is located often has 1 drop
4. On the wind farm right below the huge wind towers, there is a chance of random drops, they are quite visible from a distance.
5. Anywhere there is a little village (like near the left side lake) there is a high chance of single or double drops.
6. At any of the playground arenas (quarry, train yard, muddy stunt park, beach arena) there is a high chance of a drop.
7. once there are less than 30 players the circle becomes much narrower and the chances of drop finds lower significantly, so farm until less than 30 then choose to get into a new game or continue to the final race, its up to you.

Personally through experience, I believe the best way to do this is to start from Mudkickers where you can expect 1-2 drops, and head to the quarry, where you can expect 2-3 there. Bamburg and Mortimer are far too risky in my experience since they are on the edge of the map. On the way you may find 1-2. One tip I can offer that I haven't seen here is that finding drops in the dark can be a lot easier since they stand out a lot more. The most I got was 5 in 1 game.
