How to unlock the Solid Gold achievement in Forza Motorsport 3 - Definitive Guide
As Highlander mentioned, get Season 6 complete then begin the grind. I used the play and charge cable to keep my wireless controller from turning off as I didn't have a wired one, and that worked just as well.
If you're fortunate enough to work at a desk with a dual-input monitor like me, then you can do this while you work! I bought the $5 VGA cable from monoprice.com and setup my Xbox behind the monitor (no need for sound). During lunch I started one of the endurance races, hired a driver and it was done by the time I got back (hour). The rest of the day I would switch to Xbox, setup a race, hire a driver then back to work.
Took me 2 weeks straight, so that's 8 hrs x 10 days = ~80 hours in addition to completing season 6. Don't worry about being online, our firewall blocked me. I just made sure I was online during the last race when the achievement popped, which was on the event completion screen (when you're given the cash) after I completed the final race.

I don't understand why people have posted negative votes for Atomic's guide. This achievement is not about skill, it's about spending well in excess of 100 hours sat going round and round and round tracks! If, like me you find this tedious then you need some pointers on how to make it less of a pain! Hiring a driver is the only way to go and if like me you've finished the game 100% you realise that you can't just leave your console unattended, you have to load up a race every 10-15mins which means a strategy like Atomic suggests may just help you out. There isn't a quick and easy way to do this achievement so everyones views and pointers may help someone else out! I've given all the guides a thumbs up as they all help someone build their own strategy and be able to try new ideas.

I think that this is a good guide too. I took my box into work for a while to set up races, but then too many people started visiting my laboratory randomly and I was afraid they'd question why it was there. I'm sure if I had a government job I'd be encouraged to play on taxpayer time, ha. Thumbs up!

I got this achievement on 12-27-09. I did no online races and raced until I was level 50 and had all the achievements I needed before I started to hire a driver. It's best to plug in the controller so it doesn't go dead in the middle of a race.
It took me 118 hours driven, almost 30 hours in menus and there were 1053 races total for 220 events. If you are a completionist, make sure you have something to do while you are going for this because if you check your messages or anything, the race won't run in the background - it will pause - so you will have to just let it sit and tough this one out. Good luck!

Does it matter if you've already Gold'd quite a few races in the event list OUTSIDE of season play mode???

Just a few pointers. As others have mentioned, get to level 50 first and keep those spendy cars you get on the way. The Ferrari FXX is a great example as it cost 3 million credits otherwise and you need it for one of the toughest STOCK only race series.
You can use the Event List to see a nice grid of all the events. It is great for seeing which golds you have and filling in what you are missing. But don't rule out Season Play. If you can get it to generate a series you need (for example, get in that FXX before selecting a series) you actually make more cash doing Season Play because you get bonus money for winning each series and for every championship race.
Most of all, I am a big fan of the Hire Driver feature. Their gold medals count for you (but they keep half their winnings). A play'n'charge cable or wired controller definitely helps for this, especially on longer races. You can eat a meal, take a nap, or whatever else you need to do, and still be grinding out gold medals and earning cash for expensive cars. I'm making about 35k while I type this solution. :)
Have a nice drive!

ive sold this game but fancy getting back for this last cheevo, but how can you be sure that the hired driver will win gold? is there something i dont know?

As long as you set the difficulty to easy, a hired driver will almost always win the race. Unless you enter a bad car for the event. With a good car and easy settings, I've never had a hired driver lose.

just want to clear out a small detail everyone seems to want to know:
you do NOT have to use season play.
you can do all events in the event list, you don't even have to complete a specific season
just go to event list, select an event/race, then either play or hire a driver until you have them all gold
when you collect the earnings from the very last race, the achievement will pop

You will need Driver Level 50 or you can not do the Nürburgring Nordschleife Full Circuit Endurance Race and the R1 World Championship.
You also need to install Disc 2's data to unlock Nürburgring Nordschleife Full Circuit, and it's shorter variants, Fujimi Kaido Full Circuit and it's shorter variants, along with Rally di Positano and it's shorter variants on your event list.
Events that will be locked without the Disc 2 Data;
Super Lap Days Class F through R1
Rally Series Class F through R1
You may be able to get this achievement without installing the second disc's data, but I am not recommending you do this. If those events are completed and the Track DLC is removed from your console, those events will still be marked as completed.
After you reach Driver Level 50, you can hire a driver to do all the races for you for this achievement. Or you can do them yourself.
If an event is marked with a check mark, that Event Is Done with All Gold medals. Green Box means your current car can do the event. But it may need upgrades to be competitive. A Blue Box means you have a vehicle in your garage that can do this event. Grey box means you don't own any vehicle that can do this event.
Good luck, happy racing.

This is the most time consuming in the game. You need to finish 220 events in 1st place, and every event consists of 3 or more different tracks.
The fastest way is to hire a driver compete the race for you. He will take 50% of the winnings and you won't be able to earn any XP, but this way you don't actually have to race. You can just set the race up and then go do something else until the race is finished.
