There are a total of 41 championships in the game, you only have to do 40.
Completing a championship does not include completing bonus events. You only have to complete the 5-10 races in the series.
I would strongly advise budgeting your credits when selecting cars for championships, due the the last set of championships requiring cars costing over 1 million credits.
I would also advise not doing the Modern Grand Prix event until you've completed every other event, since you can only do this event with one car, the Lotus E21, which costs 2 million credits.
Some friendly advice when selecting cars:
1. Keep in mind the price of the car. Don't always purchase the fastest, most expensive car. You can settle for the cheaper slower car, because the in game AI or "drivatar" is rather easy to beat, if you play on the normal setting. For an even easier experience play with the Drivatar set to "New Driver" (But you will lose 10% of your earnings).
2. Try to purchase cars within the same manufacturer. Those 8 level 25 affinity levels aren't going to grind themselves! Get as many manufacturers to high affinity levels while completing the championships. BUT, if you must choose between a car in which you have a high affinity with but a high price, and a car you have no affinity with but an extremely low price, pick the lower price.
3. To get some extremely easy credits visit this website: http://forzamotorsport.net/en-US/# Simply sign in with your gamertag and redeem the credits you've accumulated. This was the first and only Forza game I put on my profile, but I had over 3 million credits waiting for me!

Supposedly, the E21 can glitch and the game will give it to you. GrmRpr69 says he got 2 of them. I did not personally have this happen, so I can neither confirm, nor deny this. Just keep an eye out for it.

This may help some people, I accidently found I could use my Honda DW12 in the P class league, by putting drag tyres on it. It makes cornering a bit harder and slower, but the sheer speed and acceleration make up for it. I assume this will work with most if the X class cars too. I only have 5 or 6 leagues left and pretty much out of credits so this can hopefully save you a bit too!
