How to unlock the Factory Legend achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 - Definitive Guide

There is really no quick way around this one. No matter what you do, it's going to be approx. a 65-75 hours grind (this is total car use time, so it includes all time using that manufacturer in the championships + time spent grinding so more realistically 35-40 hours of your time solely for this achievement). But, there are some ways to make it less painful.

This is the method I've been doing the past few days and it has made it seem like a breeze:

Mode: Free Play.
Car: Select the car in which you would like to boost Affinity with.
Track: Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Oval
Max Drivatars: 15
Laps: Anywhere from 20-50 but at least 20. I will give more info on laps later in the solution.
Collision Mode: Always Off. This is just so you don't have to worry about hitting the other cars, it serves no other purpose than that.

Now all you have to do is race.

The reason for the 20 laps is because that will guarantee one affinity level every race, and will only take about 15-20 minutes. 40 laps will guarantee 2 levels but will take about 30-40 min. 50 laps will guarantee 2.5 levels but will take about 45-60 min. The time it takes really depends on the car you are driving. Each lap is equivalent to 1,000 EXP, and you need 20,000 EXP per affinity level, hence the 20 lap minimum. Of course you could do less, depending on how much you would like to space out race time. The intervals I would recommend though are 20, 40, or 50 laps. (50 is the max amount of laps allowed)

Level 25 info: (this has been consistent over all 4 manufacturers I have done)
Total XP: 485,000
Total Time Driven: 8-9 hours per car.

Happy grinding!!

***EDIT***
Thank you to peacemak3r for this one:

Alternatively, you can do the career races that yield large XP rewards, such as the ones that give 7,000-10,000 XP. Unfortunately it may be tough to find the high XP races for the specific manufacturer you are boosting.

***EDIT 2***
Credit goes to RzrsS for this one:

If you would like to do this with little to no effort:
Set up a private multiplayer lobby. Do a 1 mile drag with ten heats and a 5 second end race timer. Rubber band your RT. You will receive 10000 XP every 10/12 minutes. It will take a slight amount of time more, but will require no effort!
Note: You will have to press (x) still after every race, so you will have to monitor the game. I'd just advice doing something else in the process such as watching Netflix on a laptop or play a PC game on a laptop if that is an available option to you.

***EDIT 3***
Credit goes to O6 FresH:
(This is just a copy and paste quote from the comments):
"better/faster way to rank up X Class , and P class cars
just thought i would tell you guys about this ive been doing it all day/night and its working faster than indy 50 laps i realized it while trying to get in the top100 on the leaderboards for x class cars on certain tracks , if you enter rival mode and play tracks like Prague Full circuit and bathurst australia if you do about 10 laps which with X and P class cars is just over minute if your a decent driver you will get like 22 thousand xp every 13mins which is alot better than indy oval and alot more fun especially if your trying to get a fast lap try it out for your self and see , you also get quite abit more money for the rival bonus anyway give it a try its defo faster and less boring than indy only thing is its only good for X and P class cars peace
sorry about the grammer lol"

OMG i am getting so tired of this game! Still grinding for cheevos and this is the last big one to do.

But just to give you my advice. The indy oval is still the best track for this. Like others have said. About 20 laps in either free mode or rivals will net you 1 infinity level.

So the quickest manufacturers i have found to get through this the fastest are obviously the ones with the fastest cars. If you are looking to get this cheevo then you most likely have done career and should have ranked up at least 3 manufacturers by now.

But these are my choice cars for this if you have the money that is.

#1 Lotus Formula 1 car
#2 Chevy Indy car
#3 Honda Indy car
#4 Ferrari F-50
#5 Mclaren P1

I have completed the career mode and had more than enough races and infinity XP to do the BMW and Ford infinity levels. They were both hard grinds as neither one had a real worthy fast car that was enjoyable to use.

One last thing to mention. Lemans old mulsanne track will net you a full infinity level in 5 laps as well.

I've been leveling affinity re-doing some career races that give out more than 7k xp, it's been going fairly well. Though I agree that it would take 8-9 hours of game play on average per affinity because I've been getting the same results.

If for any reason I can't find a suitable race in career for an affinity, I tend to just play in online games and hope to place gold/silver to give me a sufficient amount of xp as well. Shame the xp boost doesn't raise affinity.

Nice solution! Seriously though, I'm already tired of this game and i haven't even finished all the races. This why I never played any of the other Forza games...they're grindy and their appeal goes away after a few short hours.

Now if this game was actually interesting and you could crash people like in Burnout, then I would play the crap-o-la out of it.

@O6 FresH Maybe I misunderstood you but looking at the fastest lap times in the Leaderboards, Prague Full is 1:15 and Bathurst is 1:31. This is not exactly "just over one minute". And as long as you are not a pro racer with racing wheel and stuff you can add a few seconds to it, making it pretty much on par with Indy oval.

the best track to rank up is bernese alps festival. you get 2100 per lap. 21.000 in 10 laps. 40.000 in 20 and the max. amount of xp which is 60.000 in 30 laps. with the lotus you will drive anything between 1:10 and 1:20 (if you are slow). this iis the best method i think. i even raced this track with an upgraded lamborghini av entador and henessey venom and my lap times were: around 1:46 with the lambo and around 1:42 with the venom. but even with that lap times its faster or at least same fast as the oval. but i didn't want to drive the oval because it's boring.
PS: you can do this in rival mode which have the advantage that you can end the race at any second so you don't need to race 30 laps in a row.
you can also set up a solo race over freeplay in the main menu with no opponents and you will get the same xp when you choose the bernese alps festival track. only downside here is that if you choose 30 laps, you have to complete the race because if you left earlier you will get no xp. so choose less laps if you don't wanna drive 30 laps in a row.
hope this helps

@Claudio I'm now doing Rivals on Prague full circuit. I was doing it in an S class Ford yesterday (can't remember the name of the car facepalm and in hindsight should've upgraded it further really to make it a bit quicker). Just over 2 mins a lap, after 10 laps I earned 23k xp. I would now suggest Rivals over Multiplayer/Freeplay to anyone just for the fact that you don't have to sit through 30, 40, 50, however many laps. You can break it down into more manageable chunks and still get a good amount of xp which I think is so much better (for your sanity at least laugh)

Just as a side note, if you do the Affinity boosting on the Oval on Rivals, you need to do a maximum 58 laps to get 60k xp. After you hit 60k it caps so it's pointless doing anymore

the rubber band drag 1 mile you can avoid the x thing if you load it under multi-player
and press y and load the settings as 10 heats, 15 bots on a 16 racer. an you by yourself
all you have to do is restart the race every 10-15mins

Quick question about the rubberbanding method...I'm only getting about 350 exp per race..is that right or do I have the settings wrong? Am I supposed to put 15 drivatars or just keep it as solo? Also I'm using expert settings which im def not and continue to finish in 2nd all the time

Oh, I think I remember something about the game where once you get a level requirement you have to do one more race after to get the achievement.

Plus their was a service alert today and maybe yesterday that was causing some people to not unlock achievements.

That is with Driver lvl "ReptarOnIce3000" . You need to do one more race after you reached certain driver lvl to get cheevo :)
I did one more race with Ferrari and MAclaren on full 25lvl and nothing but I hope it was just a tiny glitch that has been fixed. In a week time I should unlock 8x Affinity lvl 25 so Ill let you know guys if its still glitchy.

seems like on average it takes about 45 minutes per 50 laps on Indy Oval. I'm going up about 4 levels and 4 affinity after 45 minutes. Others might give you more but it's way easier to do the Oval.

Truthfully, I dont know. I havent played this game in years.

About the lap EP, when I did it, it was 1000 per lap, they might have changed it via updates. Cuz when I played 50 was also the max laps you could do and you just said 80, soim not entirely sure anymore. I apologies

IDK if you're being serious or not but riding the walls in oval don't void anything. I've done 7 car manufactures to 25 and i rid the walls on every single turn in some cars like the dodge viper. Still got 51,000 xp at end.

Prezesmaks - I have noticed that at the end of a race if you reach a new Affinity Level it puts it up on screen, the same way it does when you reach a new Driver Level. So for example when you reach Affinity Level 4, it puts a big message on screen that you have reached Affinity Level 4. I have also noticed that when you reach Affinity Level 24, the graphic on screen says you have reached Level 25. So you should also check what Affinity Level is being displayed in the progress bar at the top right of the screen. You can also check your Affinity Level on the Forza Profile page, but beware that the level number displayed next to each Manufacturer is the NEXT level you will reach, not your current level.

O6 FresH - the XP you get is exactly the same no matter if it is career, rivals, free play or multiplayer. XP is given for a combination of distance and lap time (to the nearest 100XP), so whilst you earn less XP per mile on Brickyard, but you cover the distance faster so it all pretty much evens out. You earn exactly 20,000 XP (1 Affinity Level) for 19 laps on Brickyard, and this takes 15 minutes, so that works out at 80,000 XP per hour.

This can be boosted overnight or while at work with any car manufacturer, without needing to press any buttons other than rubber banding down RT to accelerate. This will also help you level up and can contribute to your multiplayer medals. This is slower than doing the methods that ReptarOnIce3000 has in his solution, but all those require at least regular checks on the controller to advance, while this method does not require that - It's completely hands off.

What you need to do is enter multiplayer, then go to "Special Events." Go to "Unlimited Drag", which should be the first option on the list. Search for a match, choose a car made by the manufacturer who's affinity that you want to increase, rubber band RT down, and that's it! You don't ever need to press A to advance - You will never leave the lobby and drag races will automatically select a map and start without any input by you, so long as there are at least 2 people in the lobby. You can completely ignore the "You will leave the race in 30 seconds" screen at the end of a race. Make sure your controller is plugged in to make sure it doesn't automatically shut off (I'm unsure if holding down RT will prevent the controller turning off from inactivity when not plugged in).

While this is enough to get races completed and will contribute minimally to XP and affinity, actually earning medals will earn you much more. [Edit: Per the comments, gaining medals only contributes to Driver Level experience, not affinity, so if you don't need that you can ignore this section] This is harder to do while idle, but still possible. You're going to want to choose the fastest car you can get with the manufacturer you need, and search for a drag race tune and apply it to your car. This will help immensely towards getting medals in the drag events, increasing your affinity that much more. Lots of people are pro at this, and you will still get beat quite a bit, but once in a blue moon you will earn a medal which increases the earnings substantially. You will also want as many assists off as possible to increase your XP gain, while keeping automatic transmission and traction help on obviously since you won't be at your controller to manually shift.

I tried this last night and went from affinity 9 to affinity 17 with a manufacturer, and earned about 10 levels in the process. i also earned quite a few multiplayer medals.

Even better, find a partner to agree to use each others' tunes and paint jobs while each doing this, and you are certain to get all those achievements after an overnight session.

This method isn't fool proof - In the morning after my first try with this, my Xbox was frozen on a black screen and required a restart. While boosting it at work, I returned home to a "You have been disconnected from the game" screen. Both times, however, I attained substantial progress before hitting some sort of issue. If you are dedicated about leaving this on overnight or while otherwise away from your xbox, I can't see this taking more than a week or two to complete this achievement, while also getting all 325 multiplayer medals and getting all the driver level achievements - All without actually needing to play.

TIP FROM I Turbro I: "When I tried this method the first 2 times I noticed after about 2-3 hours my Xbox would quit the game & go back to Home, I found out it was due to my Kinect being plugged in. When the Kinect can't see you in the room for a couple of hours it backs you out like that. To fix the problem is whenever your going to perform the method above just go to Settings - Kinect - & Uncheck the Kinect on box (so Kinect is off). Then continue & enjoy your boosting. "

tried tuning it better and other cars and they all do it. my problem with tuning it is what to change... I tried the gear ratio so first is a bit longer and reduces wheelspin, I tried the slip diff acceleration ratios. I'm just not knowledgeable enough. if anyone got a car with a tuning that doesn't do it and wants to share id be glad to use it.

it wouldn't bother me but I've been in a race many a time where some numpty is rubber banding and the race goes to an 8 car drag and if your not beside the wall you can ram people. get kicked from the room, rubber banding over lol.

none of my comments are complaints btw, still a good solution. its just my knowledge mucking me up.

UPDATE: Just completed this game today but it seems in addition to the Kinect issue I was having at the begging there is another issue I have found that will make the Xbox One back you out to the Home screen as I stated before. It seems Downloaded or Disc-Based Games have this issue but seems to happen more often with Downloaded ones in my case. Until or if they do fix the issue later, A technique that might help it better & on top of the Kinect technique, is to Clear Your System Cache. I found a tutorial on how to accomplish this on a post on the IGN website. Hope this helps some.

"An easier way is to hold the Xbox button on your console for 10 seconds the console will make a noise different to a normal power down. After the console is completely shut down turn it back on and that will have cleared your problem. To be able to tell if it has worked when you go to start a game it will say syncing this shows that the Xbox has remembered all saved date on your console. This information was given to me by an Xbox assistant when I had problems."

I used to have that issue, I'm not sure what I changed but it fixed itself. It may have to do with the tune on the car. I'd try a few different ones and see if it is still happening to you.

If your car plows into a wall or doesnt go straight, pick a different car or tune it better. Most of my cars would veer slightly in 1 direction, usually hitting the wall at about 55% down the track. Still nowhere near enough for me to lose.

It's a good tip, but just fyi - getting medals does nothing to your xp gain, only credits (and achievement for online medals ofc).. XP is always per miles driven (250 for 1/4 mile and 1000 for 1 mile).

Have been using this method for about 3 days straight when I'm sleeping & at work. It works great! About to hit my 325 Online Medals tonight while I'm sleeping!

HINT: When I tried this method the first 2 times I noticed after about 2-3 hours my Xbox would quit the game & go back to Home, I found out it was due to my Kinect being plugged in. When the Kinect can't see you in the room for a couple of hours it backs you out like that. To fix the problem is whenever your going to perform the method above just go to Settings - Kinect - & Uncheck the Kinect on box (so Kinect is off). Then continue & enjoy your boosting. sleep wink

Don't just disable connect, actually unplug it. I find that if I merely disable the Kinect it still sometimes sends me to the home screen. I used this just a few days ago for around 5 hours straight, it still works.

This method is a bit slower now since I find myself in an empty lobby waiting on players after several matches. Still works, just may take a bit longer :)

Very slow as of 12/26/2017 but it is still earning my XP while I am not playing, can't really complain.

Went up 5 affinity levels with 5 hours of AFK boosting like this, levels vary widely as the track selected depends on the XP earned and how long you have to wait between lobbies.

I still have that issue (Using 2011 Subaru WRX STI, Drag tune), but I just let him nip the wall. It doesn't even drag a second off my time, and it's not like I was going to beat the guys driving the P and X class cars anyways. The whole guide is still working fine for me. On that note, my car is only moving slightly to t he left, it isn't making a really sharp angle.

The most efficient and fun way I can think of completing this achievement is by playing multiplayer and working towards the 'Full Medal Jacket' achievement, which is to earn 325 medals in multiplayer. As well as that, chances are that you will take part in 50 races on Long Beach and 50 races on Nurburgring, netting you both 'Beach Hopper' and 'Ringer'.

The best thing to do is to choose a class you want to race in and then choose a very consistent lobby car (or one you see regularly at the top of the leaderboards in Rivals for that specific class). Don't forget to choose a good tune before you take it online too! I find many of the cars are very good with a 'Tuned by Worm' tune.

While working your way to 325 medals, race one of these classes with your car of choice, and you'll eventually reach level 25 affinity with the car's manufacturer. Once you've completed one, switch class and choose a different car manufacturer.

For example, here's what I've been doing so far:

X Class: Lotus E21
P Class: #55 Mazda 787B (VIP Exclusive, thanks HolyHa1fDead for pointing it out!)
R Class: BMW M3 Race Car/#92 M3 GT2
S Class: Formula Ford

I'm still working my way to 8 manufacturers, but it's certainly more enjoyable to do it in multiplayer rather than driving round in circles or taping up your controller for drag races. Not only that, but it helps you earn other achievements online!

Hope this helps anyone, and if you have any other suggestions for cars to use or any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments smile

There are many good solutions for this chivo. I tried to make a plan for it before i started playing the game, but even if you are doing in a way to cumulative other achievements in the meantime, you still have to spend a lot of time with it after you are done with every other achievement.

Before we start talking about the cars themself, let me explain how you boost your affinity level. Basicly, it is calculated by the distance you had driven in previous races. A good way to farm it to either set up a Multiplayer Private Lobby, or a Free Race on the Indianapolis Oval track. Set the laps to 20, which will grant you at least One Affinity Level for sure. If you are about to add AI drivers as well, turn off the collision so you don't have to bother with unnecessary overtakings. While you might think it can be AFK boosted by rubberbandig your controller, i must warn you to not do that! If the game doesn't perceive any kind of controller movement or button pressing, it won't give you any Affinity XP and you are going to waste your precious time!!! So in this case, you must sit in front of your console and play, as usually.

For an AFK boosting you can set up a Multiplayer Private lobby for a 1 Mile Drag Race. Set up the Heats to 10, and the End Race Timer to 00:05. It gives you less Affinity XP, but at least you don't have to do anything. Just rubberband your Right Trigger and let it go. After the 10 races are done, you will be dropped back to the Private Multiplayer Lobby, where you have to press X to start the race again with the same settings. It occurs around every 15-20 minutes, depending how fast your car is.

With that being said, let's see my recommendations:

1st: Ferrari

It's pretty self explenatory. There are lots of Ferraris in the game, almost in every category you will find one of them. While completing the Campsionships, i was always looking for a Ferrari. At half way of the Carreer you will eventually reach level 25. Also, owning and driving 10 Ferraries will grant you the following achievement:

Forza Motorsport 5Not Just for ShowThe Not Just for Show achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 0 pointsRace 10 of your personal Ferraris.

2nd: Mclaren

Why McLaren? Well first, there are two achievements in the Nürburgring DLC which "forces" you to drive a McLaren. Here they are:

Forza Motorsport 5Rush HourThe Rush Hour achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 135 pointsDrive 200 miles on Nurburgring in the 1976 Ferrari #1 Scuderia or the 1976 McLaren #11 M23.

and

Forza Motorsport 5P1 vs. the NordschleifeThe P1 vs. the Nordschleife achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 120 pointsFinish the P1 vs. the Nordschleife Rivals event having set a lap time of 7:15 or better.

I also recommend to complete the 25 Nurburgring Rivals events, the 50 Multiplayer events on Nurburgring and the 25 gold medals on Nurburgring in Free Play with a McLaren. At the end of those, you'll easily be level 22 so you don't have to grind that much. Or also, complete one or two championships in carreer with a car from this manufacturer.

3rd: Audi

Again, in the Nürburgring DLC there is an achievement for driving 200 miles on the Nurburgring in an Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Volkswagen models.

Forza Motorsport 5The German ConnectionThe The German Connection achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 110 pointsDrive 200 miles on Nurburgring in Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Volkswagen models.

Go and buy the 2012 Audi #1 Audi Sport Team Joest R18 e-tron quattro. It's very fast and easy to handle. I also completed a few Championships with it (sorry, i don't remember which category is allowing you to use this car) And of course you can combine it with the previously mentioned Nürburgring Rivals/Multiplayer/Free Play achievements. It's your call.

4th: Honda

Buy either the Honda Dallara DW12 Target Chip Ganassi #9 or the Honda Dallara DW12 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing #15 in order to complete the following chivo:

Forza Motorsport 5Grand Prix VeteranThe Grand Prix Veteran achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 182 pointsDrive 300 miles on Long Beach Full Circuit in a modern Indy car.

I also did the following ones with the Honda:

Forza Motorsport 5Long Time RivalsThe Long Time Rivals achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 168 pointsFinish 25 Long Beach Rivals events.

Forza Motorsport 5Long Beach CustomsThe Long Beach Customs achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 155 pointsEarn 25 gold medals on Long Beach in Free Play.

Forza Motorsport 5Beach HopperThe Beach Hopper achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 189 pointsRace in 50 Multiplayer events on Long Beach.

So basicly, just use the Honda for every Long Beach chivo which doesn't restrict you for a specific car or manufacturer. You can also complete a few Championships with it as well.

5th: Lotus

I have no particular reason for this pick except the fact that the fastest car in the game is a Lotus F1 car. When i was boosting the multiplayer with my friend, paintjob and tune achievements as well , we agreed to use the Lotus E21, because this is the fastest car in the game. I still had to run a few circles on the Indianapolis Oval track after we finished the multiplayer part of the game, but since it has a lot of good X category tunings, it is super fast to complete 20 laps on the oval track, which most likely provides you one affinity level.

6th: Anything you want. My suggestion is either Ford or Renault

This could be anything else to be honest. i did it with Ford, because i used a couple of Ford cars during my Carreer, but to be honest, Renault might would be a wiser choice. The Clio is a super car, and you can also find a relatively fast Spark SRT_01E in the Formula E divison.

7th: Holden

Why the Holden, you might ask? Well anyway, you are forced to do the following achievement with a Holden:

Forza Motorsport 5PanoramicThe Panoramic achievement in Forza Motorsport 5 worth 72 pointsDrive 300 miles on Bathurst in the #10 Holden Xbox Racing Team Commodore VF.

and by the time i did this, i was already on level 12, so i thought, why not pick this one as one of the 8 manufacturers? In this point you will run out of chivos anyway, so i just loaded up the Indianapolis Oval track to do some circles on it and used the Drag boosting method when i was sick of the game.

8th: Lamborghini

This was a choice of my hearth, because i exceedingly like Lamborghini cars. I used a few of them while playing Carreer, so by the time as i completed the 7 manufacturers, this had the highest level. So i bought the Lamborghini Veneno, tuned it all the way up to P category, and ran the mandatory circles on Indianapolis and did a few Drag races when i was afk.
