This comes naturally from playing the game, but an obvious tip would be to make sure that you are first place and are winning for a few laps. If for some reason, you want to grind this and the 100 miles achievement, then simply start up a free play race with a driveatar. It may be possible that you can earn this in free play with no driveatar at all because after all, you are first in the race the whole time but I am not sure about that yet.
