How to unlock the Pole Position achievement in Forza Motorsport - Definitive Guide
Here you go if you want the legit way, no idea if you can unlock this in private multiplayer :
This highly depends on your skill and your rank in multiplayer, I did it in my first ever multiplayer race (and manage to win also fairly easily, but I play a lot of Assetto Corsa / iRacing )
I suggest doing it in either:
- Spotlight series: with an upgraded car it's easier because half of your opponents will have level 1 car which has less HP/grip, but some will have better tunes
- Qualifier race (the intro race): same car for everyone / no tunes allowed
I have done it in the qualifier races with a controller and with the Honda Civic, the event consists of two things:
- 20min practice (unlimited laps)
- Qualifying session (it must be launched in the menu during the 20min of the practice), you have only one try of 3 consecutive laps
- A race of ~8/10 laps (you can try do the podium achievement if you have the pole)
I suggest doing the practice in this order:
- Turning the racing line on braking in the options (but sometime it's a little to early on some turns)
- Depending of the car, turning off the TC/ESP massively improves your corner's exit (less power restriction)
- Turning off the ABS massively improves your breaking ONLY if you can manage to not lock the wheels (with the Xbox Controller it's affordable since you can know when you lock the wheel with a vibration)
- Now, enter the practice, skip the first lap and go to the pit (i don't think you can change it in the menus), mount the SOFT tires on your car -> you can also change the tires in the menu "Car" before starting the practice
- Do at least 5 laps in practice to better know the braking points / tracks and the car
- When you fell confident enter the pit and change your SOFT tires with new SOFT tires (I don't think the game gave you newer tires on qualifying) -> It does, you can just jump to qualifying with your SOFTS
-Exit the pit and go to the menu, choose qualifying
- You have 3 laps, if you failed a lap (grass, penalty, or too slow), just prepare the last exit for the next lap (we want the pole we don't care about P2/P3)
- Just never forget the SOFT tires, because it gives you a massive advantage if your opponent sticks with the default MEDIUMS, I got like 2s faster on the Hakone small track
---> If you choose the Spotlight series I have created a tuning setup :
- > search "Track Monster" or GT: RuF l Scyllx (with a L) for the Viper (~800HP TT/big brakes kit, improved top speed setup)
-> I have also made a paint for the other achievement about paints download, name : TrueAchievements (or same GT), greatly appreciate if you can like it/use it
-> choose the Road America short (car is unbeatable on straight and brakes are really effective
-> Best I have done is ~1.02.920 (dont forget the SOFT)
-> I work well also for passing 12 players in a race LOL :
EDIT 2: I have made some changes to the tune to make the car more stable on braking and i can finally do consecutives 1.02.XX :
Finally I don't think the rank in multiplayer means a lot for matchmaking since i don't find really hard to have the pole (even with other cars), or that other players are aliens (maybe one is sometimes) even througth I nearly max in rank :

You can change tires and fuel under Car before starting. Reducing the fuel to the number of laps will also help your time. Just remember to increase the fuel before the actual race.

This is difficult imo due to all the Ken Blocks on the game 😂😂😂 definitely the only difficult achievement in this whole game

The achievement description does not match the qualifications. You get this achievement when you start the race in pole position, not if you qualify P1. You can qualify P2, and while the intermission between practice and qualifying is happening, if the person in P1 leaves, you will move up to P1 and get the achievement.
This achievement does get harder the more you play multiplayer and increase your skill and safety level. Therefore I have a few recommendations:
Try for this achievement on your first online match
Make sure you have meta cars for the current playlists that are cycling
Lobby hunt and try to find an event with few people in it. For my unlock it was only me and another person.
If you are on controller, turn off crossplay
Lastly, if you are still struggling, it is just due to matchmaking. If you already have your safety ranking achievements, you will probably have a high skill level as well. When I was trying I was a S rank 4500ish. I started just throwing races, crashing into people, racing in the grass, finishing last, getting penalties. All of this will lower your skill rating. I lowered mine down to 2800 and that is finally when I found a lobby with only one person in and it got my achievement.

I’ve gotten 1st around 20 times and it hasn’t unlocked. This game has been very glitchy since launch

As of May 13th 2024, Patch 8.0 has made this unobtainable, everyone you need to submit a ticket to forza support. Else this may never get fixed and be forgotten.
