How to unlock the Iron Man (The Arks) achievement in Frostpunk: Edition - Definitive Guide
This achievement can be difficult for those new to the game, as for most, it will require some sacrifices. This is because you will not get any other colonists and will be stuck at 45 engineers. Additionally, since they are all engineers, there are some buildings that you don't have access to. Finally, you'll have to keep a constant eye on your coal production including after you have enough for the generator and heaters.
It will be much easier if you completely ignore the side plot (Help Manchester). You will need 9 automatons and 7 upgraded (not large) resource depots for 8000 coal and 500 rations to complete this. Get the automatons as you are able, but only build a new depot as you need to.
1. Get exploration/beacon as soon as possible. Stop exploring after you have gained the steam cores necessary for your mines, hothouse, automatons and wall drill. You should only need 2 scouts.
2. Build your housing and medical around the generator.
3. Target heaters, advanced coal mines, wall drill and steel mines throughout the scenario.
4. Put off steam hubs until you absolutely must get them. And then place them around the arks.
5. After your hubs are in place, prefer generator power over range (I completed this with no range). These will also upgrade the hubs power.
6. Once you complete your requisite research, then it's all about efficiency (generator, heater, coal).
If you handle things in that order, with the occasional save you should handily complete this. To speed up research, just add an extra workshop whenever you can. You can do this when an automaton takes over a job completely or whenever you can free up another 5 engineers.

A few more points...
1. Have an Automaton on the wall drill early on. Try to build up a surplus of wood.
2. Don't worry about medical facilities as much as usual. Build a medical outpost or two and use the laws for overcrowding, corpse disposal and organ transplants. Don't waste any research time on medical stuff. The automatons are going to end up doing the work by the time sickness becomes an issue.
3. Take care of the seedbanks early on so you can ignore them the last day or so. If you are cutting it close on the 8,000 coal you can shut the heating completely off the last day to increase production.
4. After advanced coal mines and generator/ heater up grades research the charcoal kiln and its upgrades. The last 4 days I had 5 or 6 of these and switched the automatons that weren't working at the coal mines to them. Using up my extra wood I had accumulated, this helped me push my coal output over the edge.

Steel was an issue for me toward the end, I whiffed on getting Steel Plant upgrades as I’d had a surplus early on, but as I was rushing my highest level heating upgrades I was juggling Overdrive trying to keep the Seedbanks from failing. Those final 4 days sucked, bank way more steel than you think you need. I used a Steam Coal Thumper and 3 Gathering posts all with automatons 6 days before the end to jack my coal production through the roof. I built two Kilns 3 days before and sucked up all my extra wood, but only after I had all my upgrades and storage facilities effectively paid for. Those things can really screw you up if you’re not paying attention.
