A few tips: On the first night, send 30 people to wood and 15 to steel, during the night they will clear the piles and will be free by the morning, while no one will die and there will be enough resources for the lighthouse and other necessary buildings. Before the Creepy Cave and Teslagrad, exit to the main menu of the game, this is how you save your progress. If the units are killed, turn off the game and try again.
