How to unlock the Obtain 500 Stars achievement in Frozen Free Fall: Snowball Fight - Definitive Guide
Obviously, if you can only manage to get one star on some levels then you'll need to get 3 stars on more than 110, but 110 is the absolute bare minimum with the levels that the game currently offers. This will be much easier if you decide to pay for extra power-ups and lives, but it won't be necessary. It'll just take longer if you choose to play through for free.
As mentioned in the other solutions, there are methods you can use to not lose lives (dashboard and quit), but you do risk losing some progress if you do this, as the game doesn't seem to save after every level.
Also, this isn't guaranteed, but there is the possibility that the game will eventually be updated with more levels. If that ever happens, this achievement could become a lot easier. But until then, just remember, 110 levels.
Edit: If you're going to vote negative, I'd appreciate if you'd leave a comment as to why. Since the game randomises the gems, there is literally no way to provide an in-depth guide for the levels. It'll be different for every single person. What I've written is pretty much the only kind of guide you're going to get for this achievement outside of general gameplay tips.
When you start a level and there are no matches that are going to help you. Simply press then go to RETRY LEVEL. As long as you don't make any moves it won't take a life away and you will get an entirely new board. :)
Good luck!
I unlocked 500 stars, but the achievement didn't unlock, so I played 3 more levels and get 1 more star, so I got 503 stars and still the achivement didn't pop.
You need to press B until the start screen, then you need to close the game and start it again. Then you choose "single player" and while the game was loading, achievement unlock! :)
Seriously, I am doing you a favor. Forget about it. There are plenty of other games in your backlog you will have so much more joy playing.
Still here? You must really love the pain you are trying to inflict yourself going for this achievement. What's that? Your SO started the game, grew tired of it after an hour and now you are stuck with the grind to get the completion? Poor you. Since I didn't manage to scare you off, let me give you a few tips.
First, TehJofus' guide states that the game has 195 levels to complete. At the time of my pop, I had completed 228 levels without reaching the end meaning you won't have to worry about getting three stars on 110 levels early on. Just play and progress. Stuck on a level? Take a break from the hard levels and go three stars some of the early levels you missed in the beginning. I only backtracked for the last 15 stars to 500 so this first tip isn't that important.
This one is: Conserve your powerups! I did won this achievement without any purchases. Of course if your money is just burning in your pocket buy as many powerups you want and have your 500 stars in an afternoon. If you don't want to buy this achievement, I recommend you save the powerups, the game will give you through progress, for when you are really stuck on a level. Depending on your playstyle, some levels will be more challenging than other and if one just seem like a wall, it's time to melt, burn, or hack your way through. I think I had a handful of levels I just couldn't pass where the powerups got me through.
Before starting a level, try analyzing your first couple of moves. Are you supposed to remove all the ice in 15 moves and your first three moves isn't even near a block of ice? Don't bother. Exit to map and restart the level. If you power through the levels with little to no effort, then don't waste your time restarting the levels but this might be handy when things get tougher later on.
Finally, learn to like puzzle games. Or at least tolerate them. If you don't, I fear you will hate every hour you will invest in this grind and you won't even recognize yourself on the other side. I chose to approach this grind with a cup of coffee in the morning before the rest of the house woke up. A pleasant 15-20 minutes mental wake up exercise before the day began. Make this a time of relaxation for yourself. The five lives will limit how long you can grind at a time so don't think you can sweat this one out in a session or two.
Happy hunting and may your sanity stay intact all the way through.
In each level you play, you can get a maximum of 3 stars. The first star must always be obtained, as that is the minimum objective of the level. For example, if it asks you to clear all the frost and obtain 10,000 points, that is your first star. If you rack up more points in the process, you get more stars.
Be aware that if you meet all the objectives, the game ends and you go in "Free Fall" mode. This changes some of your pieces to Windchills. This then shoots off to the sides or up and down. The amount you get is based on the amount of moves you have left.
You should get "Obtain 100 Stars" between Level 35 and Level 45, and "Obtain 500 Stars" between Level 180 and Level 190.
This is the most time consuming and frustrating trophy in the game. The first steps towards this trophy are learning the methods which allow you to save lives and a lot of money at the same time. See below for a step-by-step mini guide:
XMB Quitting Method (Recommended) :
Step 1 - If you fail a level then do not press any button to progress the menus.
Step 2 - On the PS4, hold the button then press "close application". For PS3 users, press the button once and quit by pressing triangle over the game on the XMB and close from the options menu that appears on the right hand side or simply hold the PS button for 2 seconds and press quit game.
Step 3: Relaunch the application and return to the level you recently failed. If you fail again simply repeat steps one and two until you pass and/or earn 3 stars on that level.
Method Number 2: Lives regeneration trick (Not Recommended) (I also recommend you do this only in offline mode).
Step 1: Use up all of your 15 starting lives but don't just lose them on purpose, just continue playing normally until you lose them all).
Step 2: (Both PS4 & PS3 users do this method the same way). Quit the game and return to the XMB/Home screen. Whilst at the home screen travel over to the settings tab and press "Date & Time settings".
Step 3: Skip the date forward a Week, Month or Year (whatever time you feel like doing. Testing this I skipped years and months both worked perfectly). *I can not confirm that doing it forward a week works. Sometimes it did whilst other times it did not register*.
Step 4: Confirm the date and time settings, then return back to the game. This method will rebuild 3 lives and only 3 lives which is why I don't recommend it unless you really need them.
The reason these methods are needed is because you will more than likely be spending a lot of time replaying the same levels over and over trying to earn 3 stars whilst also completing the objective set in that level. Each time you quit the game and retry that particular level changes the positioning of the gems. This is where luck is involved.
The game is not just luck based. To earn 3 stars on each level you will also need to understand the scoring system. Each levels point objective changes depending on the difficulty of that particular level. Most of the time the second star is around double the amount you need for the one star to pass the level so if the points for one star are 10,000, then you will need at least 20,000 for 2 stars and so on. This is not a definitive answer and adding the objectives for all 195 levels would fill my character limit for this guide. I suggest posting your best 3 star scores for any level under this guide, to help other players who are struggling with a particular level. You can find the score needed for 1 star at the top of the screen to the left hand side of the 3 snowflakes (stars).
A good tip for the time based levels is too make matches as quick as possible. You earn more points making 3 "3 gem matches" quickly than making one big 5 gem match and creating a powerup. This is because you earn a points bonus for speed so remember: The quicker you make matches and the more matches you make in quick succession, the higher your scores per match will be.
For levels with limited moves you can still make moves quick, however be more conservative with your time. Speed will cause you to make mistakes. You can make a match every 5-7 seconds and still earn a speed bonus.
Again for the limited move levels try and make as many powerup gems as you can. Mixing 2 powerup gems can quickly turn a game around in a matter of seconds. It is important you play smart and calmly but also quickly. For more information on how to make each powerup gem and their actions refer to each of their respective trophies.

A little advice for saving lives: if you are sure that the level is failing, without waiting for the end and loss, exit the game via the ps button ... lives are saved during this move. Also, all bonus goodies like: pestle, snowball, hourglass, etc... are saved (even if you used them during the passage of the level). If you replay the level again (in case of failure), one life will be taken from you. If you are completing a level for a while, then it is first advisable to pause the game (so that time stops) and then calmly exit using the ps button.
