Hi tank-destroyers,

you will likely reach this achievement first: There you can find the important guidelines on how to raise affinity between two characters.

There are 4 possibilities from raising the affinity level:
1) pairing two characters together in combat; progress is rather slow though, especially in your second/third playthrough. this comes naturally and doesnt cost anything.
2) different actions in the intermissions, such as laundry. some of those actions might cost you some AP.
3) Eating food to boost the affinity level and/or combat experience.
4) best way: having characters talk to each other during an intermission. Talking costs you 1 AP each time, meaning that you can talk 20 times each intermissions at max. Special: every third time you talk with a character you will get a "chance to bond": if you pick the best answer from the 3 options, you get a large boost of affinity between the two characters.

Side note: with 20 AP and the correct answers for bonding, you can get affinity from level 3 to level 20 in an intermission with one pair.

So my advice would be to expand most facilities and towards the end of the game, while in your second playthrough, take the safe routes and focus on the intermissions. Pick a character, raise affinity with a few friends and then don't use it anymore. Focus on the next character and so on.

Since I only managed to find the conversation guide via a random Reddit post from over a year ago, and whoever wrote it never finished it, I thought I'd give it more visibility and potentially finish it off (though it is not my own). I also thought it would be useful to show some suggested pairings from a Steam Guide I found, so why not have them both in once place to prevent annoying tab flicking??

Intro

One of many things to do during intermission is to have characters talk to each other to raise affinity. As affinity between a pair of characters increases, so do the support effects they provide each other. In addition, link events - a short conversation between the pair - are available at affinity levels 2, 5, and 10. Viewing the level 2 link event enables the pair's link attack, and viewing the level 5 and 10 events powers up the link attack.

Just talking to a character will increase affinity a little. When talking to a character for a third time, a "chance to deepen your bond" will appear, where the player replies to that character with one of three choices. The quality of the reply determines by how much affinity increases.

The "chance to deepen your bond" appears every three times that a character is talked to, whether by one character or by multiple characters; for example, it's possible to have one character talk normally twice, then switch characters to trigger the chance. The number of times a character has been talked to carries over between intermissions in the same chapter, but resets between chapters.

Suggested Pairing's

Not directly related to affinity handling but I feel some people might want to know which pairs work well together on the battlefield, and since doing so raises their affinity, it fits. Kyle and Boron: At rank 10 affinity, Kyle's support effect solves the accuracy issue Boron has when trying target aerial targets. Since this applies to skills, Boron with Kyle as support can use his skills that target all enemies to clear entire waves in a single attack. Even outside of skills, Boron can shoot down any drone in a single shot, and Kyle helps make that happen reliably.

Chick and Hack: The corgi murder twins are an incredible pair, especially at rank 10 affinity. Chick makes Hack's "Burning Trigger" cost a mere 2 SP, making it incredibly cheap and easy to spam. When Hack is acting as support for Chick, he makes all of her skills do more damage, which means her hero mode can really wreck some encounters.

Mei and Sheena/Hanna: Mei is the fastest, and both Sheena and Hanna benefit from Mei making basic attacks as frequently as possible. Her hero mode means that she can trigger lots of healing/restoration very quickly. Otherwise, it's just a really good combination to help your resources last longer.

Britz and Sheena/Hanna: Like Mei, Britz gets to act a lot. He's better at stripping armor than Mei, but lacks the healing and support skills. Still, if you want to do a little more damage with your machine gun, Britz works well with this pair.

Socks and Wappa: As support, Wappa boosts link attack gain, and Socks can inflict a ton of status effects. With Socks as support, Wappa has a huge boost to luck and can crit very reliably. Since the link attack you get from Socks being support can inflict all sorts of debuffs, and Wappa can fill that fast, you can keep switching out the two in order to keep enemies from ever being clear of debuffs.

Mei and Britz: These two are fast, and together they make each other faster. Skills from Mei and basic attacks from Britz can cycle though turns fast.

Chick and Socks/Jin: Both Socks and Jin have some low cost status skills. With rank 10 affinity, Chick drops the cost even more, for maximum skill efficiency.

Sheena and Wappa: Wappa as the gunner can fill the link attack gauge quickly. Since Sheena's link attack (with Sheena as support) restores SP, you can use this combination to fill your SP gauge pretty quickly. With SP reducing food buffs, you can even have a net gain of SP using nothing but "Bang-Bang!"

Values

Another way to increase affinity is to do the laundry. This can be done during the final intermission of each chapter, starting in chapter 3, by one pair of characters. Doing the laundry greatly increases affinity between the pair.

Finally, affinity increases when characters are placed in the same gun turret in battle. Each action taken by the pair increases affinity by a base amount (% listed below) and each enemy destroyed by the pair increases it further.
