The absolute best way to get this achievement involves a turbo controller and playing against a single opponent in a free tournament. If you don't have a turbo controller, you can still do this mindlessly while watching TV or something by just hitting A at regular intervals.
Set your game up like this:
Mode: Tournament
Game Format: High
Betting Limit: Pot Limit
Buy-In: $0
Turn Timers: Off
Tables: 1
Players per Table: 2
Now just set your turbo controller to constantly hit A. You'll always call down to the river, and if you bust out you'll automatically start a new game under the same conditions. If you don't have a turbo controller, just hit A regularly while doing something else so you don't lose your mind.
To dispel some rumors I've read about this achievement:
(1) Playing against more opponents does not increase your odds of getting a better hand. All it does is increase the time it takes to play each hand.
(2) The odds of getting a four-of-a-kind are not 1 in 4,100 in Hold 'Em. They are more like 1 in 600. The 1 in 4,100 comes from the odds of hitting it with five cards, so basically the odds of flopping it with a pocket pair. The odds are way better when you get to use seven cards.
If you have average luck, you'll have to show down around 6,000 hands to get this. Just like the 10 full houses achievement, you have to actually show down the hand for it to count. Fortunately, you're pretty likely to get the straight flush you need for the other achievement at some point during this process. Happy grinding!

Yup! Odds of getting a quad by the river are 1 in 595, so you should easily get 3 in 3,000 hands unless you're really unlucky. I wish this game had a hand counter, especially since we're starting to get all these "get this many hands" achievements.

can u still unlock it? i hav3 maybe 4 so far but im thinking the new dlc may have locked it out can any1 confirm this
By KY PRO 2008 on 30 Mar 2013 18:23
I just unlocked today, and I have the new DLC installed. It still works
By Spazpol on 01 Apr 2013 01:01
Odds are better playing Texas Hold Em (7 cards) over 5 card poker in a real poker game but this is an arcade game title. These 'get so many hands' achievements all seem to come with just progress towards playing 10,000 hands with 2500 hands in Texas Heat you should get this.

Neo, I have no idea what you just wrote there. Do you want to downvote my solution because (1) you're bad at math and don't understand that probabilities aren't guarantees, (2) you think it only takes 8 four-of-a-kinds to unlock this achievement instead of 10, or (3) you have a better method to show down hands? How is my solution "totally off the mark"?
And where's your solution?
If anyone's interested in seeing the math, the probability of hitting a four-of-a-kind with two cards in your hand and five cards on the board is (13 * (48 choose 3)) / (52 choose 7), or 1 in 595. If you see a mistake there, let me know.
By simmias42 on 09 Jan 2013 17:21
@Tgamesmaster, I think the odds are exactly the same regardless of how many opponents you are playing. The location of the cards does not effect the probability. Whether cards are in other players hands or the bottom of the deck, only the cards dealt to your hand and the table will determine the odds calculation.
By Campo on 16 Jan 2013 09:19
Probability does not work that way. It is definitely 1 in 595 no matter how many players are in the hand. The odds are calculated on the cards dealt to your hand and the table (7 cards). Only those 7 cards matter, not the rest of the deck or the cards dealt to other players. You obviously do not understand the mathematics of probability. ;o)
By Campo on 17 Jan 2013 20:04
Campotech is right. Tgamesmaster, here's an excellent write-up on the subject:
http://www.pokerhelper.com/articles/how-your-opponents-cards...Unfortunately for our purposes, our opponent doesn't play through every hand like we do and sometimes folds preflop. So, in reality, it's going to take us a little longer to play all these hands down to the river than the odds might suggest. But as yet I haven't seen a faster way to grind through this achievement while you're sleeping :)

simmias42, thanks for the link it really helped. Campotech, I understand the mathematics of the probability. I'm not too sure now I look back where I was coming from at all; the rest of the deck is irrelevant but the cards dealt to you/the table... I guessed it seemed like more than 1 in 595 because of the bot folding when I probably would of gotten one.
Just something else to bear in mind, if you have a three of a kind from your 2 hole cards/3 flop cards then the probability of hitting a four-of-a-kind would be 1-(46/47)(45/46)~0.0426=4.26% That gives you the odds of 1 in 23. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, and the tip on playing the tournament. If you play another mode, the prompt for buying back in is X button, which ruins turboing A, I'm up to 20,000+ hands played and 11,000+ hands won, and yet I still don't have this achievement. I could have sworn I've had 10+ four-of-a-kinds given the odds, but guess I'll keep grinding away.

both me and A.I. got 4 of a kind does that count as a win?
By StarshadeFPS on 31 Jan 2013 00:04
My game freezes every hour when the winner is announced. I have to restart my console. this will take forever, any suggestions? I will try offline without update see if that helps.
By StarshadeFPS on 31 Jan 2013 01:06
^ Same thing happens to me. I turbo for the guts of an hour and the game freezes every time.
By FF7 King on 05 Feb 2013 18:23
I didn't use this method and played my hands the old fashion way. I got this achievement last night. However, I am pretty sure the 4 of a kind I got last night was not my 10th. I'm only a casual player and I seriously doubt I got more than three or four 4 of a kinds. I guess I may have gotten lucky or maybe my memory is just really really bad.
By MrZombieChicken on 13 Feb 2013 15:14
I finally got this yesterday at 21,069 hands played. I think I got it later than most people since I've seen several randoms with this but not the 10,000 hands played.
By Gunstar Red on 19 Feb 2013 22:58
This popped for me as soon as I downloaded the DLC. Weird.
By grex9101 on 21 Feb 2013 17:04
This last achievements is getting me so frustrated. I leave my xbox on and it ALWAYS freezes slowing down the progress. I know I got 3 four of a kinds that I have actually seen but I'm at 7000 hands and just fed up!!
By Crossofdevil on 22 Feb 2013 15:40
How do we force it to keep playing? When the tournaments are over for me I have to hit start at least once to start the game. Is this something they changed?
By TurboRuhland on 03 Apr 2013 15:02
@TurboRuhland: Turbo on the "A" button works fine. Maybe you're in the Pro Takedowns and not the regular tournament? Not sure... but something isn't set up correctly because nothing has changed. Good luck!
Finally got my first 4 of a kind today, I only know this because I happened to see it happen and the "Poker Aficionado" achievement popped (which means the 4 of a kind was the last hand I needed to complete it). Hope to get the other nine soon!
By OzzysShadyDisco on 27 Apr 2013 00:02
I let the game run with a turbo controller from time to time for the "Four of a Kind". This afternoon, I started the game and the achievement poped up :D
By The Achieveman on 03 May 2013 13:06
~8400 hands played and i still don't have it. Just as expected, as i am a person with low to nearly no luck. ._.
By WaKK0r on 18 Nov 2013 13:25

By KY PRO 2008 on 06 Jan 2014 06:01
Maybe you should jsut clear your catche on your xbox and it might pop? I hope its not discontinued.
By MattiasAnderson on 17 Feb 2014 06:01
lol i got a 4 of a kind on the first hand i played using a dummy acount to see if it was still possible to unlock some achievements in the game..4 queens on the board. Crazy! Think I now have atleast 5 ive seen. But maybe more using this guide. Around 6700 hands in to the game now. Great solution by the way!
By MattiasAnderson on 14 Jun 2014 01:47
Got it today. After nearly 9.000 hands.
By N3OANG3L on 27 May 2016 08:00
Got it today at about 7600 hands.
By Gente Blanco on 31 Jul 2018 00:14
9000 hands played and I've only counted 2 so far :(
By Scotchie on 02 Mar 2020 02:13
Thanks for the setup and guide! +1
I managed to unlock my poker aficionado achievement no problem and so far 8,000 hands deep towards this. Hopefully not much longer :)
Update: Finally finished up at 9,200 hands played, 5,350 hands won.
