The odds of hitting a straight flush by the river are 1 in 3590, which is pretty much the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field (1 in 3720). The other hands are trivial to get compared to this one: the next lowest-odds hand to get is a four-of-a-kind at 1 in 595. If you haven't been lucky enough to hit a straight flush yet, the best way to grind it out is the same way you want to grind out the 10 four-of-a-kind achievement.
Use a turbo controller and play against a single opponent in a free tournament. If you don't have a turbo controller, you can still do this mindlessly while watching TV or something by just hitting A at regular intervals.
Set your game up like this:
Mode: Tournament
Game Format: High
Betting Limit: Pot Limit
Buy-In: $0
Turn Timers: Off
Tables: 1
Players per Table: 2
Now just set your turbo controller to constantly hit A. You'll always call down to the river, and if you bust out you'll automatically start a new game under the same conditions. If you don't have a turbo controller, just hit A regularly while doing something else so you don't lose your mind.
With average luck, you'll have this achievement after showing down around 3,500 hands. Just like the 10 full houses and 10 four-of-a-kind achievements, you have to actually show down the hand for it to count. I found that if I left my game running overnight I had played about 1,000 hands if that's any indication of how long this will take. Leaving it on a full day will probably play 2,500-3,000 hands.

Thumbs up simply for the funny Star Wars reference.

Im on 20k hands now with 10k of those with the A button pressed down, I must be the unluckiest person ever!
By Lil Miss Cherry on 22 Jan 2013 09:34
Wow, Miss C, that really sucks. Sorry bout your run of luck, but now I don't feel nearly as disappointed about mine.
I'm only at 12K hands played with 2K of those played consistently (and manually :-\ ) to the river with no payoff yet.

its frustrating because the AI folds before cards are called a lot, I left it on last night and all this morning, still nothing. Even tried deleting and redownloading dlc to see if that was the problem but didn't work. Nothing I can do but keep trying!

I'm guessing a royal flush doesn't count right? Because I got one and no cheeve.
By MajorBeetus on 26 Jan 2013 18:00
Heh, I feel ya frustration, Miss C. The AI rarely folds pre-flop on me, but damn, I swear its folds always seems to coincide with me finally getting dealt suited connectors. I'll probably still be trying to earn Poker Aficionado long after World Series of Poker: Full House Pro comes out. :-P
Yeah, Major, I've seen another gamer post that he drew a Royal Flush, but failed to pop the cheeve. That's just poorly thought out design, IMO.
Hell, I've only *seen* a royal flush once and a straight flush twice, each during Texas Heat nights. To bad witnessing one of each hand doesn't count. ;-)

Just out of interest - does anyone know if hands played on WP version count? I know the general stats count towards both but particular hands? I can't find any reference to suggest whether it does or not so any answers would be appreciated!

I used my turbo controller and let my xbox on over night. Just woke up and wanted to see how many hands have been played. But what did i see? A Full House Poker ''In-Game Clothing'' Clip had been played (i guess pretty early in the night because only 80 hands got played...) and the only buttons to skip it and continue were X and B. So i guess 6 of the 7 hours have been just showing this screen... Noone else got this problem? Does anyone know how to get rid of that?
By WaKK0r on 21 Mar 2013 12:18
I gave up and cleared my system cache and then loaded back up the game. Not long after starting up the game again, the achievement popped.
By Jblacq on 14 Jan 2014 03:12
People who cheat at this makes me sad. If you don't earn it then you didn't earn it.
By Shik on 25 Jun 2014 05:06
Thanks bro! It popped for me around 5400 hands.

Thanks for the setup and guide! +1
Finally coming back to this classic after previously having problems unlocking this achievement and "awesome foursome". I had 15,000+ hands played and saw the straight flush but recieved no achievements. Now after many years I am playing from a different console/different harddrive and have downloaded the very last 2013 DLCs. Using just these DLCs I was able to finally unlock this achievement in just my first 1,000 hands! Maybe I just needed to clear my cache, who knows. Also it might be worth mentioning the game crashes significantly more these days so try to keep an eye on it every 2/3 hours if possible. Good luck everyone!

Loved the Star Wars reference!

...Well now i got the freezing problem. Xbox was running all night but when i woke up and checked, the screen was frozen and only around 80 hands got played. Why the fuck-.-
By WaKK0r on 22 Mar 2013 13:45
I've had a similar problem. After 6 hands, the game decides that it should show me how to play, by providing a tip. The only way to exit this screen is by hitting 'X' or 'B', neither which are being turbo'd. The same thing happens every time I start this up. Why the game believes it's the first time being played... over and over again, is beyond me. ..so, I haven't been very successful at automating this yet. I may just reinstall it and see if that fixes the issue.

Can anyone confirm if this achievement and the other 2 in this DLC pack are retroactive? Pretty sure I've had a straight flush in the past so would that count towards this or would I need to get another one with the DLC actually installed? Thanks.
By CASS190684 on 29 Mar 2013 20:58
Well I just got a royal flush and no achievement (I needed a straight flush for my last hand), so looks like it doesn't even count royal flushes as straight flushes for this. Argh.
By Hurball on 30 Mar 2013 01:28
Every hand except a royal flush. Pretty harsh if you ask me, because a royal flush is obviously a straight flush itself!
By xLoCk 0nx on 31 Mar 2013 02:13
I just got a Straight Flush and nothing. I did all the above and nothing. So bug.
By BlindSide5150 on 10 Apr 2013 00:23
I see people are determined, and good luck because this is one of the worst achs ever. The game gives this an achievement? It's not even one. What a worthless achievement because the time and effort isn't worth the points and most importantly your sanity!
By Tw1std Nitem4re on 13 May 2013 08:04
I'm very pissed off! Had a Straight Flush, but get no Achievement yesterday! Totally bugged!!
By United Console on 02 Jun 2013 08:16
I just got a straight flush and it didn't pop. I wonder if the issue is that it says you have to WIN with each hand. How often have you won with high card?
I'm starting a list of the hands now and checking off when I win with each. At least then I know for sure I've gotten them.
By Jblacq on 14 Jan 2014 00:42
Tumbs up! Good solution! Thanks!
