For $3000 credits, you can purchase a new Sentient AI from any space station. Simply go to the Trading screen, select the Sentient menu and buy whichever one sounds good to you.

Go to any faction station and purchase a new sentient. Sell the starting sentient when you pick up an uncommon sentient. There is no point in keeping common sentients around because they have a lower max level.
