This is the "Horde" mode that unlocks after completing a few main story missions. You're tasked with defending a space station from waves of Dark Legion invaders, and while it's easier with partners, it's not too bad to do solo if you have to.
What helps is that you have three sets of automated turrets which you can repair (for free) anytime they go down. As you blow up Legion ships, you get points that can be spent at a supply depot for assistance in the form of fighters, carriers, turret upgrades, etc.
The first two waves are very easy, and by the time you're done with those you should have enough points to upgrade your turrets. Get that done first, then buy as many fighters as you can afford. Once you're maxed on fighters, focus on buying carrier support.
Only the last wave is truly difficult as the Legion is sending a number of cruisers against you and chances are you don't have enough firepower to crack them before they reach the station. Don't worry, it takes them forever to bring the station down and if you have the support craft active, you WILL take the Legion down first.
If you die, don't worry, you respawn and can still get credit for the achievement but will get less reward points for winning.

If you're doing this solo (pretty easy) make sure you have a good, fast ship before you start. I used a lvl 2 Sunshadow Syndicate ship with three weapon slots.
If you are having trouble, try to save 9 points for the last ditch Base Defense.
I had one Cruiser get through, but it did very little damage.

These are only available after completing the main story missions. Dark Legion Invasion missions are like defend missions where you need to defend the station from Dark Legion spawns that increase in difficulty with each day that passes. These can be easy if you have a public game that other players join to help you defend. I recommend using the consortium tier four heavy fighter with two battlecannon 4 and a DPS sentient. Your weapons will be more than enough for the legion ships and you will be able to abuse afterburner to move around the station.
