How to unlock the Level 20! achievement in Game Room - Definitive Guide

In order to get this one, you're going to need to buy some games. Play games that you *like*, and over time you'll get these.

On the other hand, you probably wouldn't be looking at this unless you wanted it fast. With the selection of games out there, you can pick and choose certain ones to help you get more medal points more easily.

Level 20 requires 380 medal points. You get 5 points for a gold, 3 for silver, and 2 for bronze. Some games allow you to earn three medals, and some only allow you to earn one.

Obviously, the ones that allow you to earn 3 are going to help you get this much faster (and much cheaper).

Here are some suggestions for games to help get you started, but they're only my opinions. Try them out on your own first; your mileage will vary. These games are current as of Game Pack 5 (released on June 1, 2010):

*Yar's Revenge - Fairly easy to score and stay alive long enough to gold the first two. At 45 min, the Time Spender is one of the shortest.

*Crystal Castles - The original easy 3-golder. There's a secret warp point in the back that will give you the points immediately. Staying alive is easy on the first few levels, and the Time Spender is 90 minutes.

*Pitfall! - There are several online maps out there which can help you get the most points. Basically, start by going left and don't die, and you'll reach the 20k point total. Last until the 20 minute timer and you'll make the Survivalist. 120 minutes is a bit long, but the game is fun.

*River Raid - A fun game that you should be able to get two golds with easily. 120 minutes is again a bit long, but fun games aren't as bad.

*Buzz Bombers - A bit of a slower game with not much replay value, but EASY. The first time I played I got two golds. You can rack up 7 minutes just by moving the can without firing. Easy 15 points.

*Astrosmash - So easy that once you cross your point and time threshold, you'll probably have to work to kill yourself off to end the game. 90 min isn't bad for a Time Spender. Moderate replay value.

*Jungler - Easy to survive, fairly easy to get points. 90 minutes is another decent TS. Moderate replay value.

*Lunar Lander - Once you get used to how to move the ship, the game is an easy 15 points. Replay value might vary on your tastes.

*Shark! Shark! - The original Feeding Frenzy. Once you get used to moving the fish, the points and survival are gold. 120 min is long for a TS, but another fairly fun game.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those should net you 135 fairly easy points, enough for level 7 (almost 8). Here are some other games that are a little tougher:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

*Road Fighter - A little tougher, but if you watch the leaderboards, the golds are a lot easier than you might think. Moderate replay.

*Centipede - With work, this can be a 15-pointer. If you get Millipede (Arcade), Centipede should become a breeze.

*Keystone Kapers - The survival should come with not much practice, but the points are harder. At 120 min, the TS is a bit longer, but this should be a decent 10-13 points. Decent replay.

*Tempest - If you play (and beat) the hardest level offered at the beginning, you'll gold the points. The TS is only 45 minutes, but it can be frustrating getting the 3rd gold. Nevertheless, it's a personal favorite of mine. 13 points are fairly easy here. Decent replay.

*Night Stalker - Surviving is simplicity. If you never leave the box in the center (just move your stick so it thinks you're there), you can stay indefinitely. Time Spender is the same... 120 minutes is long, but again, it's easy. The points are a little tougher as you go along. 12-13 relatively easy points. Moderate replay.

*Gravitar - Surviving is easy... just run away. TS is short at 40 min. The points are harder. 12-13 points should come quick. Moderate replay.

*Tutankham - Surviving is easy... just run away. TS is short at 60 min. Points are a bit tougher. 12-13 relatively easy points. Can be frustrating.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again, these are *suggestions*. I recommend only getting ones you like. Eventually, you'll build up to the levels.
I rubberbanded games like pitfall (where you can not move and stay alive) for many of the time spender medals.
There's not many, and some were Atari games that only offered time spender medals.
This game was a shag, but it's blasted my TA ratio thru the roof.
+1 thanks for the list.
Slowly going through you're games listed. I also made a playlist of easy games (Including some of yours) for people who want to watch how to get certain medals in certain games.
Feel free to include any of the videos in your guide.
This achievement requires paid content.
To unlock this achievement, you need to earn 380 "Medal Points".
This achievement requires a minimum of 76 medals to unlock.
Medals can only be earned in ranked play, and in games that you either own, are purchasing sessions with using the 40 MS point option, or on games that your console is licensed to (i.e. Someone else bought that game on your console). Medals can NOT be earned in demo play, classic play, or if you are using tokens to play a friend's machine.
Medal points are awarded as follows:
Gold - 5 Points
Silver - 3 Points
Bronze - 2 Points
There are three medal varieties:
Point Buster : These medals are awarded when you reach certain score targets.
Survivalist : These medals are awarded for surviving a set amount of time in a single play.
Time Spender : These medals are awarded for cumulative game play.
Every game has a Time Spender medal. Note that Time Spender medals can be earned in ranked or classic play, and are cumulative between game sessions. Most games also have a Point Buster and Survivalist medal. Medals "upgrade" as you progress. What this means is that if you have a Bronze medal and suddenly earn a Silver medal, you only have a Silver Medal. This will only count as 1 medal. Bronze, silver, and gold medals all count.
A chart of which games have which medals available, and the goals that must be met to get those medals is posted here:
Here is my list of games where you can easily get 3 gold medals in order to level up faster.
Iron Horse
Gold point buster (at 57,000 points) and gold survivalist (at 8 minutes):
Choose the punch as the weapon because it will give you 200 points/kills instead of the 100 points/kills for the whip & pistol. You will get a free life at 30,000 points (that's why you will have to choose the punch, by using the whip/pistol you are not gonna reach 30,000 points with 3 lifes = no extra free life and no 57,000 points)
At the begining of the level (and when you respawn after losing a life) pick up the gold bag (for the 1000 extra points) then quickly kill the first 6 enemies that come in two groups of 3 (for another 1200 points).
Now, simply stay inside where the gold bag was located and to the right (just left of the beds) and facing the train track (so when you punch, you will punch toward) and keep pressing the A button all the time to punch all the incoming enemies. 1 cowboy will always come from the left but you will kill him before he hits you. And 2 or 3 other enemies come from the right and up, toward you (again, you will punch them before they reach you).
Rinse and repeat this trick until the timer is over (you will lose a live after). Repeat all the above steps 4 times (3 starting lifes + 1 extra life after reaching 30,000) until it's really game over.
Gold time spender : 90 minutes
River Raid
Gold medal on survivalist : When the game starts, don't press any button on the controller, just let the game stay idle. The survival timer will go down without actually playing the game. However, at 30-40 seconds from the end (that's for the bronze medal) both the time spender timer and the survivalist timer will stop, so just start playing the game until you die (try not to die soon so you can survive a little longer). At the next life, do the same thing, don't press any button, just let the game stay idle for a couple of seconds/minutes. Rinse and repeat until you have gold medal for survivalist.
For point buster, I was able to get a silver medal (at 10,000 points, gold is at 15,000). Edit: I was able to get gold on point buster. Fly slowly (by holding down the left stick or the down button on the d-pad). Just shoot everything you can, even those fuel power-ups but when the fuel is low, don't forget to use one.
The bridges/passages are used as checkpoints, as long as you destroy them and pass through, if you die, you will restart at the last "checkpoint."
Time Spender takes more time (120 mins for gold), but if you are patient, you can get a gold medal for that too.
Rack' Em Up
The time spender is short (90 mins for gold), Survivalist is 7 minutes for gold and here is a trick for that (I just got the gold medal by using this trick).
Make sure you don't lose a ball/balls during the whole game and even if you do, try losing it/them near the end of the gold survivalist timer. Hit the required ball (the one that is flashing on the table) and try to sink a ball (or 2). Now, aim the cue to the bottom, middle edge of the table, press A, leave the + target to the middle, press A again and wait there, do not press the A button for the level meter. Wait until you hear the countdown sound and the game will make the shot for you. Repeat all this 1 more time.
The number of shoots now should be 1 and the number of balls should be 2 (if you sank a ball or two, if not it should be 1 too). Now you must hit again the flashing ball and also sink one or more balls. This will reset the shoot counter to 3. Rinse and repeat this trick until you reach the gold survivalist time (7 mins). Try not to foul (in any way) because you will lose a ball.
For gold point buster, try to sink 3 or more balls in 1 shot, then foul twice. Or sink 2 balls, twice in a row. I got 80-85 points by sinking 2 balls in a row. This will give you the gold medal (at 75 points or more)
Tempest
Gold for point buster: At the level selection screen, choose the medium difficulty (32,000 points), then play the first 2 levels without dying (use the special weapon (X) when they are lots of enemies or if you are about to die). It will gives you the gold medal.
Survivalist: The gold medal is at 3-4 minutes I think. Do not press start at the level selection screen, let the 10 seconds goes down then play the game at easy difficulty and very slowly, killing 1 enemy at the time and moving all around the track.
Gold medal for time spender is at 45 minutes
Laser Blast
Gold survivalist: Simply destroy 2 of the 3 cannons when you start the game, then simply move left and right all the time, avoiding the 3rd cannon's laser. 99% of the time, the laser will miss you. When you reach gold (at 10 mins) you can die or continue playing for the point buster medals.
Gold point buster : you can quickly destroy all 3 cannons by moving fast from left to right while shooting vertically. The 3 cannons most of the time don't have time to shoot at you but you must be "aligned" to them. You can earn up to 6 lives if you use this method without dying. Gold medal is at 20,000 points. I was so good at the game with this method that I scored 150,030 points and lasted ~65 minutes before giving up because it was just boring :D. If you are good at the game, you can get 3 gold medals in one play. Otherwise, play 2 sessions (1 for survivalist and 1 for point buster and time spender)
Gold time spender is at 90 mins.
Crystal Castles
Gold point buster: Simply use the exploit (press A at the left back corner) in the first level wich will give you ~140,000 points, enough for the gold medal.
Gold survivalist: Again, use the method posted here or at xbox360a. On the first level, wait until the bees start chasing you (after the 5th time). Run around (clockwise or counter-clockwise) on the outside of the level (avoiding also the purple blobs) until they start to follow/catch you really fast. At this point, they will catch you and you will lose a life. Repeat this 1 more time. With the final life, wait again for the bees to start chasing (for some extra survivalist time) you but instead of running around the level, quickly use the exploit (press A at the left, back corner), wich will gives you 140,000 points and 3 more lifes.
Pitfall
Gold point buster: From the starting screen, go left, try not to die. You should pick up some treasures along the way.
Gold survivalist: From the starting screen, go down and stay there near the brick wall for the whole "20 mins". The game/timer will go idle at some point so simply press A or move a little bit to continue the timer.
Lunar Lander
Gold point buster: You only need to score 750 points for gold. If you are lucky, you can get 3 times a 5x landzone somewhere in the level. Land on it really slowly and you will get 250 points. Repeat this 2 more times and you will get the gold medal.
Gold survivalist: Very easy too, simply put the ship vertically and let it go down slowly. When the altitude shows 800-900, press the O button twice to keep the ship in the air. Make sure you press it twice and not hold the O button as it will use lots of fuel for nothing. Rinse and repeat until you reach gold. Do not press O when the fuel is low as it will end the game and you will not get a medal.
Asteroids
Gold point buster: It's doable, just shoot everything you see including the spaceships. You need to score 15,000 points for gold (I have a silver medal for now).
Gold survivalist: Pretty hard for gold if you start losing lifes at the begining. The only trick you can do is to keep 1 or 2 small asteroids on the 1st level. Most of the time, they will not cause any problems as for avoiding them, they will simply pass by you. The hardest part is to survive the small, more agressive spaceship. You can press O to warp in the level (where you will land is random) or press [ ] + left stick to move all around the level, avoiding the projectiles and of course the small asteroids. Gold medal is at 5 minutes.
Buzz Bombers (An easy 2 gold medals if you play 1-2 sessions)
Gold point buster: Use the method posted by other members. Gold medal is at 50,000 I think.
Gold survivalist: Same as for point buster, by the time you get a gold medal for point buster, you should also get a gold medal for this.
Gold time spender: At 90 mins.
Edit: This is for Game Packs 1-6
Edit 2: Please read the instructions for each game first, so that you know how to actually play the game. These strategies can only go so far if you don't know the controls and what your objective is before playing.
This list is for games that you can get fairly easy medals in with just a SINGLE PLAY, rather than buying the full game.
Buying the full games, as listed in the other solutions, will obviously get you the Time Spender medals, but if you are like me and just want some easy medals on a budget to get through those last few levels, you may find this list very helpful.
I found that the single medal games like Adventure time out after about 10 minutes, so don't even bother with those.
Keep in mind, I obviously have not played all of the games in Game Room, so there could be others that could be on this list.
* Astrosmash - 2 Golds. Much like Laser Blast, this game doesn't take much skill at all. You get an extra life every 1000 pts. and you will quickly learn how easy 1000 pts. is to get. You could probably get a medal for Time Spender after about two or three plays, which is still cheaper than buying the game.
* Battlantis - Two bronzes easily. Possibly a bronze/gold had I learned about the first boss trick earlier.
* Black Widow - Two golds, but will probably need two plays (one for each medal)
* Buzz Bombers - Two golds and a bronze without sweating at all. I found the timer cuts off on this at 44:55, so you will need three plays if you want all golds.
* Chopper Command - I own this one, but you can easily get a score medal and gold survivor on one play through. Kill all but one enemy on the first stage and just avoid them for the three minutes to get the gold survivor.
* Crystal Castles - Gold Score medal - Just use the warp trick for instant gold.
* Finalizer - I don't know if I got lucky, but I got two golds on a single play. You could definitely get two medals on this one regardless.
* H.E.R.O. - I bought this one, but on my first play I got a silver for score with no effort at all. Gold can be easily obtained by waiting until your meter gets near the bottom before saving the miners...even just dying doesn't hurt much either. So with one play, depending on how you play it, you could get two medals no problem.
* Keystone Kapers - Two bronzes are no problem on this one, anything better is icing on the cake.
* Laser Blast - A monkey can get three golds on this game in one play. The Time Spender medal is based on just how much time you want to deal with this game. (30 min/60 min/90 min) I think.
* Night Stalker - Silver and Gold. Just move around in your cell at the start of the game, but don't leave it for 9 minutes for Gold Survialist, then just start blasting things for your Score medal.
* Oink! - Two bronzes for certain, but possibly more depending on skill.
* Pitfall! - A below average person could get two Golds on this one. Just keep going left until you get 20K, then just keep moving your controller around (to keep it from not registering your play time) for the rest of the time.
* Red Baron - Bronze on score, 1 second off from a Bronze on Survival. Not a top pick of mine for easy medals.
* River Raid - Two golds. If you can get the controls down, two medals minimum are no problem in this one.
* River Raid 2 - I only recommend this one for Gold Survivalist. Just keep tapping the A button and don't launch off the aircraft carrier for the first five minutes of the game. The controls are terrible, so unless you grasp them quickly, don't expect much else.
* Shao-lin's Road - A bronze and a gold should be no problem. Kill all but the last guy on each stage, then just run around avoiding him until the Hurry Up! message comes across the stage, kill him, then move on.
* Shark! Shark! - Two medals are no problem, just which ones they are will depend on your skill. I believe you get an extra life after every 1000 pts, so once you get the points built up, Survivor for certain shouldn't be too hard. To kill sharks, pass through their tail. They will turn around, but just keep biting their tail until they die. The bigger your fish gets, the less bites it takes to kill the shark.
* Space Hawk - Same as Shark! Shark! answer for the most part...except for killing the sharks of course.
* Super Breakout - Easy Gold Survivalist (like Circus, just don't launch your second ball) and possibly Bronze Score if you get the controls down quickly. This game timed out on me for Time Spender, even though I was moving the stick around, so I don't know if it was just me or what.
* Tempest - Just start the game on any stage that rewards a minimum of 25K after beating it, beat that one stage and you have Gold. A Survivalist medal is pretty easy for another play if you kill all but the last enemy on each stage and just waste time letting them come to you.
* Time Pilot - Two medals shouldn't be too difficult, but this one is low on my "easy list" of medals.
* Video Pinball - This game is garbage, but you should still get a Score medal and Gold Survivalist. Keep in mind that even if you tilt, you can still control the ball. Just hold it against the wall on one of the side steps for three minutes and you will have the Gold Survivalist. To hold, just press the A button and the LB or RB depending on which way you want the ball to go.
* Yar's Revenge - Three medals. Just move around in the safety zone for 9 minutes for Gold Survivalist. Stay in there for longer if you want the Time Spender ones. If you beat a level, a score/life screen comes up. You can actually just leave this screen up to get Survivor Gold and the Time Spender medals. Just be sure to move your controller around every now and then. After that, start actually playing, where you will find scoring to be quite easy for the most part.
Hope this helps and feel free to comment and add any extra insight for games I have not listed and I will update the list.
Thanks!:)
I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth for a couple of easy gold medal games, particularly the newer ones:
*Thunder Castle - Fairly easy to get Survivalist, just run around on the first level and don't kill the dragon. Make sure you keep collecting the birds, as it causes the dragon to retreat if you get close. Points are fairly straightforward too but will take you a little while to reach gold, just collect the gold objects as you run around avoiding the dragon. Be sure NOT to collect the comb-looking object, as that takes points away. It's quite possible to get all 15 points in a single play, if you're prepared to hang in there for the 90 minutes.
*Thin Ice - I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one, but I guess I found this one pretty easy as I own the original and played it a lot in my childhood. For Points, you want to try and make big holes in the ice and sink as many penguins at a time, scoring big points. Remember, you'll get bonus points for sinking the seal as well as the polar bear and dogs in the later levels. From level 2 onwards, you can collect Shrimp Cocktails after sinking the other penguins which will freeze the polar bear, making it easier to sink him. For survivalist, you can sink all the penguins in the first level, except the last one. If the seal starts chasing you and removing your line, just skate into the water or in zig-zag which will confuse him and cause him to stop. It's probably a good idea to demo the game first to get a feel of the controls first. With a bit of practice, you can come away with at least 10 points
*Pooyan - Pretty easy to rack up points. When you collect the meat-laden arrow at the top of the screen in the first level, stay high and when there's a group of wolves who drop down close together, let them get nearly to the bottom, then fire. If you do it right, you'll score a big combo of points. Surviving isn't too difficult either, just make sure you shoot the wolves before they reach the bottom in the first stage or the top in the second stage. If they shoot fireballs at you, you can either shoot the fireballs with the meat arrow, or deflect them with the top or bottom of the car.
Hope this helps :)
Okay... Keeping all the solutions above in mind, realize that this is mainly about time, money, and patience (some retro game skill will help :) )... You need a total of 380 medal points. Assuming you buy only games that have all 3 medal types available (some games only have time spender awards) and that you are able to gold medal all three, that's 15 points per game... Knowing that, you have to buy 26 games... Barring no sales, that's $3 each... That's $78... (Not to mention add 50 cents to buy a mascott for the other achievement) More than a new 360 title... Now, if you are still crazy about retro games like me and you want to do this achevement, I have every game I purchased for Gameroom up on Youtube... I have gold medaled virtually all of them and show you how. Please just search Swordbladez and Gameroom... I tried to put the playlist below, but had to settle for Road Warrior as an example vid... My other vids appear if you actually go to the YouTube site via the link... I hope it helps :)
Here is a list of all the games that I used to finish the game really easily. It is full of alot of rentals that you can either turbo one of the unused buttons or hit start to continue the time.
If the timer stops counting be assured that it will still count for the gold. There is a timer at the top left of the screen that will tell you how long you have been playing for. You can verify how long each game will take here: http://www.tinyurl.com/GameRoomMedalChart
Slight Guide, more of a reference for my friends that others can see...
This was a heavily single play based with my final cost of (2440 ms pts/$30.50 with mascot) (I bought 4 games and played a few games multiple times. This is not optimal and my guide below can lower the cost even lower than that.
My original copy was made here: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31...
My guide has existed since 05-17-2011.
I'm porting it to TA for the sole purpose of ease of use.
* = Your mileage may vary
http://tinyurl.com/GameRoomMedalChart
Link to Medal scores and Time requirements. Any missing Time Reqs can be determined based on existing patterns based on Bronze and Silver in-game Time to determine the Gold Time.
A lot of it is a bunch of strategies found from X360a and TA + personal observations.
The time spent demoing the game is counted for the Time Spender achievement. It is in your best interest to demo the game for the full 10 minutes before actually single playing it.
I highly recommend a Turbo Controller since its a lot more convenient than a Rubberband.
One arcade game must be purchased for various other achievements such as the challenges. I highly recommend a game that
a) is not easy to get Medals in up to 6 plays.
b) a game you feel you have some skill that could get better to get said Medals.
c) most importantly, have fun with.
Mine was Missing in Action, that was lots of fun to me yet got me killed so easily numerous times until I figured some of it out. (no you can't stay still in that game and get survival, something will eventually come that will auto-kill you)
All based on Single Play/40 ms pts play
Easy Single Play Gold Survival + Time Spender (10+ pts):
Press A to view the score until Gold for Time and Survival. The gameplay itself is not worth the damage to the controller.
If you have a HORI PAD EX 2 TURBO controller, Activision Decathalon is an easy gold for point buster - set D-pad "LEFT" as your turbo at maximum speed and the guy will run insanely fast. I got g-g-g on a single play by a huge amount using that method.
2. (*,G,G) Video Pinball
Turboed the flipper buttons without launching the ball.
3. (*,G,G) Pinball
Same concept as Video Pinball only much harder for Points medal.
4. (*,G,G) River Raid
Turboed the X button so the plane never took off.
5. (*,G,G) River Raid II
Turboed the X button so the plane never took off. RR II is even harder to score for than RR.
6. (*,G,G) Super Breakout Arcade
Turboed the X button so the ball never launched.
7. (*,G,G) Super Breakout 2600
Turboed the X button so the ball never launched. The paddle for this one is not reliable to get Point medals.
8. (*,G,G) Cosmic Commuter
Turboed the Y button.
9. (*,G,G) Dolphin
Turboed the X button.
10-5-2012 Guide UPDATE:
From Quantum Binman (G,G,G) Opportunity
"I found that staying at the top of the screen and jumping out of the water to avoid sea horses was an easy way for success. You always know when they are about to appear because the "current" arrows pass off screen a split second beforehand. Then just hit the seagulls and kill the stupid squid thing. Will be a very easy g-g-g if people practice on the 10min free play to nail the timing before going into a single play"
10. (*,G,G) Radar Lock
Forgot what I turboed, whichever button wasn’t being used in game.
11. (*,G,G) Kabobber
Forgot what I turboed, whichever button wasn’t being used in game. This game was pretty wtfworthy.
12. (*,G,G) Kaboom!
Forgot what I turboed, whichever button wasn’t being used in game. Score is too hard for me.
13. (*,G,G) Night Stalker
Stay in spawn safety until Gold Time. Afterwards, spawn camp the robots for score, although its not as easy as it sounds.
14. (*,G,G) Yar’s Revenge
Forgot what I turboed, whichever button wasn’t being used in game. Score is pretty easy.
15. (*,G,G) Tutanhkam
Get to the bottom of the first screen and stay there for the Gold Time turboing a button to prevent time out.
16. (*,G,G) or (G,*,O) Crystal Castles, easy (G,G,G) in 2 plays.
For (*,G,G), get to the 4th level, kill all enemies, (eat a caterpillar when its eating a gem, kill the witch with a hat), and sit inside the castle so the bees can’t reach you.
For (G,*,O), the secret warp at the 1st level gives the Gold Points easily. The * survival depends on dragging out the level times from the Bees to the bitter end.
17. (*,G,G) Chopper Command
Leave 1 Heli alive and circle around the map for 2 hours.
9-22-2012 Guide Update:
18. (*,G,G) H.E.R.O.
19. (*,G,G) Oink!
20. (*,G,G) Beamrider
21. (*,G,G) Seaquest
All of these can be turboed as well.
210 pts (out of 380 pts) absolute minimum.
------
Easy (G,G,G) with some effort (15 pts)
1. Laser Blast
The trick is to start in between the Ten and Hundreds score and shoot them 1, 2, 3 from Left to Right asap. You get a free life every 1,000 pts.
2. Thunder Castle
Circle around the main maze for 90 minutes against the Green Dragon collecting points whenever safe to get Gold Points. Stay away from the comb since it cuts your point total in half.
30 pts
------
(G,G,*) with Moderate effort/some skill
1. Astrosmash
(G,G,O) is simple. Any Time Spender medal is based on how accident prone the player is.
2. Iron Horse
(G,G,O) is simple. No chance for any type of Time Spender on a single play.
http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showpost.php?p=3977...
3. Gravitar
(G,G,O) is fairly simple. Orbit the sun and shoot left. Occasionally, you’ll have to readjust your flight path to not crash into the sun. I had to do a second play since I messed up with 8 minutes left to Gold Time.
4. Space Hawk
(G,G,O) is fairly simple. Fly around, shoot stuff, fly away from all enemy objects. Time Spender is a based on how accident prone the player is.
5. Buzz Bombers
(G,G,*) is simple. Left 1 Bee alive until the Hummingbird eats all the combs. Repeat on each level as necessary.
9/24/2012 Guide UPDATE:
6. Rack' em Up
(G,G,O)
(I didn't do this game myself but it shouldn't be bad to do)
60 pts ideally or more
Total:
300 pts easily + whatever extra medal gained from above + whatever is gained in the next section
80 pts or less of personal choice remaining. Don't forget that you can/should get 15 pts from 3 gold medals from your purchased game
__________________
Games that can have a (G,G,*) possibility but a chance to come out with less.. or nothing
1. Lunar Landar
(*,G,O) is easy. (G,G,O) is simple if you can figure out how to land the Lander on the 5x zone 3 times. I didn’t.
2. Pitfall
(O,G,O) is as simple as staying alive in an inactive room for 19 minutes. If you do that, score possibility is almost null. However, (G,G,O) is manageable if you figure out how to platform in Pitfall, including the Croc jumping. By going left, you’ll eventually go to consecutive screens with treasure in them to get Gold Points. If you mess up, then Gold Survival won’t be given.
3. Shark! Shark!
(*,*,O). (G,G,O) is possible. Figured out after buying the game that nipping the sharks tail multiple times over and over until it dies is a good way to get the 15k Gold Point. Afterwards, Gold Survival is simpler when you have more lives. This is a risk/reward type play, its completely possible to come out with nothing.
4. Pooyan
(*,*,O). (G,G,O) is possible. Simple game that could go wrong easily. Personally pulled G,S,O, should have had G,G,O, but could have easily gotten S,S,O.
5. Red Baron
(*,*,O). (G,G,O) is possible. Gold Survival is semi-simple but no promises. Points is an extended version of Gold Survival. My technique was to prioritize shooting with slight dodging without throwing off my aim for the Bi-Planes and prioritize heavy dodging while shooting randomly at the towers + UFO looking thingy.
6. Jail Break
(*,*,O). (G,G,O) is possible. Gold Survival is easy. Stand around top left corner and move forward about 1/4th or until your shots hit the bottom right cleanly. The enemy will shoot a bullet from direct across from you on the top right, then 2 enemies will appear from the bottom right: one tossing a molotov. This pattern will cycle repeat.
7. Galactic Warriors
(*,*,O). (G,G,O) is possible.
9-22-2012 Guide UPDATE:
A popular easy solution suggests to use the first robot on the left and press block for each shot the first enemy shoots. The points rack up quickly.
Outdated:
Choose the middle robot and switch it to the projectile. The first few robots, you’ll want to kneel and shoot the projectile until you win. After the level where you automatically slide around, the next robot will have a projectile faster than yours. You’ll want to jump to the middle of the level, kneel and shoot at whichever side the robot lands. The level after that is a big melee robot. You’ll want to jump to the opposite side of the one you’re on and shoot until it gets close. Once it get close, jump away and repeat the previous process. I got G,G,O by the end of that one.
8. Black Widow
(G,*,O) or (*,G,O). For (G,*,O), choose the 100,000 score wave and complete it for Gold (its simple).
For (*,G,O), choose the first mode and take your time. First wave don't shoot stay behind colored lines and let the fly collect the other bugs. Next waves start shooting and at the end when its safe let the bug collect. keep shooting the red bugs to keep them at distance while you move away. (From TA) Haven't tried that personally .
Here's a couple more for those of you out there working on this. Just a note that both of these were purchased and not done in single play.
Detana Twinbee
Point Buster: The secret to getting high scores is to collect bells. These appear from white fluffy looking clouds. Each progressive bell you collect increases in score amount. If you miss a bell the score starts over. Bells can be shot to keep them on screen if there are several at once. Gold unlocked for me midway through level 2.
Survival: You can milk a lot of time from the first stage boss. Fire powered up shots at him until he turns a light purple color. At this point 2 more power hits will kill him. You can then dodge his shots until eventually he will come so low on the screen that you have to shoot him. Doing this I had to survive only 1m on the next level for gold.
Trick Trap 1771
Point Buster: Easily done by completing level 3. The level 2 boss can be troublesome but there is a safe spot on the far right side of the screen. Stand there and walk out to lob bombs at his head when it is safe to do so. You must hit the top of his head. The next 2 levels are very short mazes that you simply must get to the exit. If you are needing points you can farm mobs here. You should have gold by the time you make it to the next boss.
Survival: Easily obtained while doing Point Buster. Should get this during level 2.
If you are like me, as you approach Level 20, you will scour your arcade and find tons of games with 0 or only bronze Time Spender medals that would push you close to Level 20, if only had 40 hours to kill.
As you know, nearly all games have a timeout if you don't move the controller, but I found that it helps to rubber band the controller, to keep the left stick pointing down. This doesn't eliminate the timeout, but I found that this usually extended it to 3+ minutes before I had to move the stick to make the clock resume. This works best in games with safe zones because you can see the clock. With some games I got nearly 20 minutes before it timed out, but I found this to be inconsistent, even in the same game.
For games that don't have a safe zone, you can do the same thing in classic mode. Just go to the start screen (where it expects you to start the game) and leave it up with the rubber band in place. There is no onscreen countdown, as in ranked mode, so I backed out every 15 to 30 minutes to make sure I made progress, but I found that I could consistently get 3-4 minutes before I had to move the stick again.
I know this isn't a super awesome happy hour type of solution, but having a 3+ minute interval instead of 1 makes a huge difference. I didn't see this info posted anywhere else, so hopefully it helps someone out.
If anyone has any other suggestions to improve or expand this solution, please let me know and I will add it and give credit.
Ok, so here is my "guide", or my "journey" through getting all the cheevos for Game Room. A list of all the games I used and what I scored on them, and my notes/tips/opinions for each.
An important message from your sponser: DO NOT GET EMOTIONAL! A few of these games I scored poorly on and "knew" I could do better, and I ended up getting "mad" at the game and spending waaaaay more single plays than I should've. If you can't "beat your score" after one more try, don't bother wasting more money on that particular game. It is way more cost effective to just move on to something that you're better at/is easier.
Now, without further adieu:
These are the amounts of medals I had earned before gaining the second "hardest" cheevo in game room: 20 medals of each type.
Points: 20 Survival: 24 Time Waster: 21
My total medal tally is: 18 Bronze, 17 Silver, 59 Gold
Everything was done on single plays except for Astrosmash and Crystal Castles.
"Watch TV" Time Wasters:
Astrosmash GGG
Crystal Castles GGG [14.5 hours in this game] Turns out that I should've grinded for "Matchstick eyes" AFTER doing all my single plays. I actually ended up spending more time on my single plays than I thought I would; I think it is at about 2 days total in the "game room".
dolphin _GG [didn't understand how to actually play this game at all so no chance at points]
super breakout (2600) _GG [controls are BRUTAL so good luck with points buster, seems like luck to me]
breakout BGG: see above
Yar's Revenge: GGG (x2 150 points off of 50k :P 40 secs TS)
gravitar: GGB (make sure you get the orbit down in demo)
gravitar [2600]: SGB (x2 cuz i started liking it and wanted better points score – barely missed gold)
pinball: _GG (300 pts off (7500) bronze)
video pinball: _GG (don't understand the strategy/how it takes skill... points seem random)
tutankham: SGB (x2 the "exploits" didn't work for me. hard game for points too; DO NOT RECOMMEND]
Cosmic Commuter: SGG (x2 demo a bunch until you can be almost flawless. triple G is easily possible)
Chopper Command (B/G/G) – [quite difficult game for big points, i felt like i never got the strategy]
Night stalker: G/G/G (highly recommend, easy 3G. Spawn-rape robots from a good distance)
River raid 1: B/G/G (goofed big on PB, gold would be easy; I actually really enjoyed these games)
River Raid 2: S/G/G [gold is do-able, does require moderate-skill though; i goofed on 2 lives]
Activision Decathlon: S/G/G [7600/8000 for gold, only one I felt I sucked on was pole vault. If you can handle 10 minutes of button mashing you'll do fine]
Seaquest G/G/S [x2 -- 40/50k points; 20 mins early on Time Waster like an idiot, THEN 3 mins off next try :'-(... I felt I did really well and still could only last 15min when trying to get points]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Partial" Time Wasters [need to be present, but super-easy]
Laser Blast: GGB (start under "3rd life" picture; move then shoot, move then shoot [straight down always]
Thunder Castle: G/G/S [do not leave first stage or kill dragon! Had to use 2 plays cuz supposedly I was 40 seconds off the gold time waster... I had 8 lives and moved to the 2nd stage b4 I should've & and a comb spawned literally in front of me to take half my points from 28k to 14k – you think this game hates me much?]
space hawk: GGS – Super easy, just get in front of the hawks and lead your shots. Once you have 8k [gold] or more points, just try and stay ahead of a hawk for the rest of the 60 mins if you're going for Time Waster. No new enemies spawn if you're “with” a hawk already on your screen. I was 5 mins away from gold, was goofing around too much cuz i had like 15 lives XD [30/45/60]
-----------------------------------------------------------------
EASY point-busters/survivalists
Missile Command (2600): GG_ (I did very well and I only lasted 5 mins in 1 play... 30 min needed for Bronze Time Waster]
Missile Command: BB_ [surprisingly WAY MORE DIFFICULT than the other one, more missiles, they come faster, guns more confusing. should've got SS. DON'T RECOMMEND]
Pitfall: GG_ (only difficult part is pure crocs. Stand on the 1st two's eyes, otherwise don't rush)
one full (20min) play = Bronze Time Waster might be 20 mins plus a couple secs though? "demo" first to be safe
Lunar Lander: G/G/B [x2 Great game! don't see how gold Time waster is possible on single plays though since I did great and only lasted 5-8 mins & bronze is 30 min, with demo time I got 15min in one play; 2nd play was for Bronze TS]
buzz bombers = GGB [extremely easy to double gold, if going for time waster, kill everything as fast as possible, then let one bee survive and kill him when you're almost out of room]
shark shark = GG_ – Just play cautious unless you figure out how to kill the shark easily like i did, once your big size though, just avoid the shark, crabs are easier at that point. (45/90/120)
Black Widow = SS_ Most people would probably do better than I did on this run. I got freaked out by the grenade bugs and focused on them, but then the easy bugs swarmed me... [Important note!! the green bug is there to “help you”, it doesn't hurt, it just steals food -- no biggie -- and kills the invincible purple bug – now THAT'S a biggie!]
Oink! = GS_ Highly recommend. If you can figure out a way to get the difficult setting to easy [where you can drop bricks from the roof, as opposed to having to walk down to plant them] then you're golden. The “real” game wouldn't let me change difficulty, whereas the “demo” did.... Strategy = the middle is your priority bcuz it is the wolfs as well. Try and work from the “outside-in”, and just drop those bricks as fast as possible. Once you hit 1200 points [gold], hide in a corner/grab new bricks only if its absolutely safe to do so and go for survival medal. I was 2 mins off from the 7 min gold survival and I only thought of that “hiding” strategy after i died. :-( lol
Shaolin's Road: SG_ actually a fun game! Never stop jumping, and try and only use the normal kick if you need to defend yourself, otherwise get more points from doing the “drop-kick”. Get 8 min survival by killing all but the last enemy, then dance around til you see the “hurry up” -- kill him within 10-15 seconds or you lose a life.
As a side-note, learn what the power weapons do, or don't use them at all. I got some magic fireball thing which prevented me from doing drop kicks, which got me killed :-o -- which prevented me from getting Gold.
Time Pilot: BS_ This one is not easy by any means [it is somewhat fun though], but I think I could've done better with a bit more practice. If you have the skill SG is easily do-able, or even GG if you're really good. I tried to do circles around the “middle” of the screen until I could get behind a plane and then go in for the kill [kinda like a “real” dogfight].
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
["Less" recommended] "extra" single plays
jail break: SG_ strategy = camp in the uppermost far left corner and shoot the prisoner that appears at the top right, followed by diagonally down (right to left) the two prisoners at the bottom. They will cycle in the pattern. You might be able to get 30,000 points doing this (gold) and will last more than 3 minutes (gold) 40/60/90 [T.W]; I found it quite difficult to aim diagonally, but if you can get 30k in the demo, go for it. [I got 24k] [DO NOT RECOMMEND; controls are BRUTAL]
Jungler: BG_ -- The computer is way too smart and unpredictable in its movements, try and go for a worm that is all alone, ideally, you want to shoot the entire enemy worm for maximum points. I would also suggest trying to get two of the worms “green” so that you can hunt the last red one in relative peace. I thought I would be able to implement this strategy but I guess I just wasn't good enough... [DO NOT RECOMMEND; totally not my style, and the AI seemed too hard after only doing a demo]
pooyan: SS_ – I found the second stage quite hard because i could never get both wolves when they launch at the same time. Also, there was this pink wolf with a flashing balloon that was literally invincible... I didn't understand the point of that... he ALWAYS made it to the top
Road Fighter: _ B_ AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! played this on the advice of some other TA members, barely got a single medal. Tried it multiple times, got the same score virtually every game [22k]; this is one of the games I actually "got angry" with.
Keystone Kapers: _B_ AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! played this on the advice of some other TA members, barely got a single medal. Airplanes take off an entire life, didn't know this because i didn't get that far in the 10 minute demo... Thanks a lot for that one “game info”.... And sitting around for the elevator for minutes is brutal [and running past the elevator is dangerous and doesn't save you any time] while you are stuck watching the Criminal get farther and farther away.
Centipede: BB_ Avoid unless you can get the score for the medals you want in the demo. Literally 1 second off silver survival. FML!
The newer centipede [remake?] was easier to control and such, quite a complex game overall though. I tried implementing different strategies but the game always seemed to compensate and still crush me. XD
H.E.R.O. = _ G _ Super easy to get gold survival if you wait out the timer next to the miner. But it is hard to balance that with going for points. I found it hard to get the end of the levels once you get a few levels in. Not really worth the 40 MSP for just 5-7 points in my opinion...
I have been looking all over the place to find useful information in order to finish this game as cheaply as possible. So I will try to put as much as possible into this guide, however make sure to read the other guide as well. But please bear in mind : English is NOT my mother tongue and this is my very first guide!!!
Before we start I would like to warn you : if one day the loading screen stop at about 25% and remain like that for more than 15-20 seconds, you can 'dashboard' and try again the day after because the servers went down. I had this problem and 'forced' the game to load my game when I was at level 12. It loaded properly but I couldn't buy any games at all. However when the servers went back online again, my save had been corrupted, I lost everything and went back to level 1. Obviously I will not explain how to 'force' entry into the game as this is probably why my save had been corrupted.
OK now this is said. I will now explain mainly how to get the Time Spender gold medal (TS) for the games I played (because it's easier to go for PB after getting your TS). As a general rule you can use a non-active button to keep the clock going such as LB or RB but make sure to press it every 55 seconds, the game will think you idle at 60 seconds.
All my games are 'single play' but Pitfall which is the only full game I bought (achievement purpose only).
I will never thank enough Edward Hyena for putting up such brilliant chart : http://www.tinyurl.com/GameRoomMedalChart
As well make sure to check internet, there is plenty of video to show you the best way. Otherwise you can access the leaderboard for each game where you can watch a few video.
Activision Decathlon G/G/G
If you aren't scared of damaging your controller or (like me) you have one already in a bad shape, this is a very easy 15points. Press A between any event for 90minutes .
Astrosmash G/G/G
Just remain under 1000points for 90minutes to avoid increasing the difficulty. 40000points need a bit of luck/skill afterward.
Beamrider -/G/G
I'm not very good in this type of games and failed the Bronze PB. You need to press down for 90minutes.
Breakout -/G/-
Don't even bother with this game, I have been kicked out even when I was moving my controller every minute.
Buzz Bomber G/G/B
Make sure to do the full 10minutes of demo and if you waist enough time for killing the last bee for every level, Bronze TS is easy. Easy points : let the bird take care of the honeycombes and don't destroy any beehives you've made.
Chopper Command S/G/G
The game is easier by going left. Kill all enemy but one on the first or second level and move for 120minutes away from it. Gold point buster is possible, I just goofed around to much.
Circus Atari -/G/-
Don't even bother with this game, way too hard and unpredictable.
Cosmic Commute -/G/G
Didn't understand how to really play this game in order to get a 2000points score. Just make sure to use a non-active button for 90minutes.
Crystal Castle S/G/G
Go into the 'Witch Castle' for 90minutes on the 4th level and move a bit every minute.
Demon to Diamonds B/G/S
Make sure to use the active A button when going for the 120minutes grind. You get better points if you kill demons and catch diamonds from far away. (yeah I cock up this one)
Dolphin B/G/G
Not an easy game when you have only 10minutes to understand and master it. Gold time spender is at 90minutes.
Galactic Warrior G/G/-
Easy 10points if you take the first character (on the left) and block every single shot fired at you.
H.E.RO. G/G/G
Use LB or RB between lives for 120minutes. There is plenty of video available to guide you through it. Only the flying moment are a wee bit tricky.
Iron Horse G/G/-
Very quick and easy 10points. All you have to do is select 'fist' as weapon when prompted and go into the very first alcove at the rear of the train, get near the bottom right corner leaving your cowboy looking down and press A at every incoming enemy. When time is up, just rinse and repeat with all your life. Make sure to collect as well the bag of gold. Doing so I got over 90000points.
Kabobber -/G/G
The game is much harder than the demo. Again LB or RB will do the trick for 60minutes.
Kaboom! -/G/G
Go left and right for 90minutes and good luck for bronze PB.
Lazer Blast G/G/G
A drunken monkey could do it. Start under you second and third life each wave, fire strait down, move a bit on the right, fire strait down, move a bit on the right again, fire strait down. Repeat for 90minutes. Be careful the first 2-3 waves are much slower than the others.
Night Stalker B/G/G
120minutes moving back and forth in your cage in order to get the TS. But once it's done kill the robot and then spawn kill them all. Don't forget you have only 6 bullets and you will need to get another gun in order to go spawn killing again.
Oink! -/G/G
Press B for 120minutes. Be quick and move above the gap only when the wolf fire at a new row of 3 bricks, very often it will focus on destroying the 3 of them giving you enough time to cross over.
Pinball -/G/G
Don't launch the ball, just play with the bumpers for 90minutes. I had bad luck on this run.
Pitfall G/G/G (my only bought game)
Always go left. You can stand on the eyes of the crocodiles. Other than that very easy 10points if 'single played'.
Radar Lock B/G/G
Stay on the boat between mission and LB or RB will do the trick for 90minutes.
River Raid B/G/G
Once again LB or RB for 120minutes between lives will do it. Not an easy game though.
River Raid II -/G/G
Same as above but only 90minutes. However this game is much harder and more confusing than the first one.
Seaquest B/G/G
Be sure to do you TS as soon as you start, boats spawn after the second time you are back to the surface. 90minutes of going left and right is a bit boring.
Shark! Shark! G/G/-
Make sure to practice how to kill the shark by touching it's tail and you will get your points in no time. I goofed around a bit to much and didn't even finish with a bronze TS.
Space Hawk G/G/G
Very easy game. You just need to find the right angle with the right speed to stay as close as possible to the hawk and then you can kill the bubbles it leaves behind. 60minutes is not to shabby.
Submarine Commander G/G/-
This game gave me Level 20. Just kill the boat right in front of you. Not much else to say.
Super Breakout B/G/G
Once again moving right and left will get you through the 120minutes grind.
Super Breakout (2600) -/G/G
I definitely cocked this one up. Same as above only 90minutes this time.
Thunder Castle G/G/G
Make sure not to kill the very first dragon (green) and to collect all bonus items but the brush looking like one. Beware the dragon CAN kill you with his tail through walls. 90minutes is OK.
Tutankham B/B/-
I tried to reach the third level to do my TS but failed lamely. Otherwise check video to show you exactly where to stand to get the 60minutes TS on the first level.
Video Pinball B/G/G
Luck base, you can leave your skill at home. Same as Pinball.
Yar's Revenge S/G/G
Remain in the 'safe' zone for the whole 45minutes. I manage to suicide myself with my own weapon on my very last life [sadface].
With all of that in mind, I ended up with a grand total of 2440MSP spend (price for the mascot included). I could have save 840MSP if my save hadn't been corrupted. So basically you could 1000G this game for 1600MSP which is I believe not bad at all and possibly even less if you are more skilled/lucky than me.
There is some other games that I did not try because I was not filling like it but to mention only a few, you can try : Asteroids (3 different versions) or Lunar Lander.
That's all folks, hope this help.
The following are the games I used to get to Level 20. I personally used a turbo controller for a lot of games, which is not required. It just makes it a lot less boring becuase you will not have to sit next to your controller making sure you do not time out.
I would also like to metion that you can demo games on a silver account. If you feel you need more practive or need to demo a game again, I suggest you take advantage of that. I didn't think about this until after I wasted $1.50 on laser blast.
All these were done on single plays (except for 3 that I purchased in 2010). Overall this is my cost break down:
Bought Games: 3 -- $9.00
Single Plays: 39 -- $19.50
Mascot: 1 -- $0.50
Total: $29.00
This can be reduced by $6.00 taking away 2 bought games and $4.00 by reducing the multiple single plays I had on some games. I would estimate that putting those extra singles plays into other games would bring the total to $20-$22, depending on the games you chose.
NOTE: I am not very good at retro games (I don't really like them either), so if I can do these, most people probably can too.
**Activision Decathlon (G/G/G) (x2)
Points Buster: Turbo right on the D-pad and you should get score easily. There are some events that you have to press ‘A’ as well (like hurdles/long jump/high jump).
Survivalist/Time Spender: Simply turbo ‘A’ before starting anything, to view the score. The first time I played I actually started playing before I starting turboing, and before I knew it I was done. This is the only reason I had two plays.
**Astrosmash (G/G/G) (Owned)
Points Buster: Simple game, just shoot the rocks and dodge. You should be able to get the points pretty quick without too much trouble.
Survivalist/Time Spender: I’m not sure what can be done on a single play in this category.
**Beamridier (-/G/-)
Points Buster: This was too hard for me.
Survivalist/Time Spender: I only needed 5 more points to level 20 so I stopped at the 4 minute mark. You can easily get the time spender as well, just turbo an unused button.
**Black Widow (G/-/-)
Points Buster: Choose the 100,000 point wave and complete that, should get you gold easily. The wave is not that hard either.
Survivalist/Time Spender: There is a method for Survivalist detailed in other guides. I didn’t try it myself though. It suggests choosing the first wave and not shooting anything, just dodge and let the green bug kill everything.
**Breakout (-/G/-)
Points Buster: Good luck, controls are horrible
Survivalist/Time Spender: I guess the game times out no matter what around 18mins. Easy survivalist but time spender would require extra plays. Just turbo a random button.
**Buzz Bombers (G/G/B)
Points Buster: When you kill the bees they turn into honey combs. Let the bird eat as many honey combs as possible, this will give you points pretty quick.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Make sure to demo for the full 10mins on this one. Leave one bee alive on the level and wait for it to fill the screen with flowers. When you start getting trapped in too much, kill the bee and repeat for the next level.
**Chopper Command (S/G/G)
Points Buster: Fly left and hold down ‘A’ to constantly shoot. Try to shoot the planes/helicopters as fast as possible. Practice in the demo.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before you start moving.
**Cosmic Commuter (-/G/G) (x3)
Points Buster: Demo was easier then the real game. I failed hard on this one, multiple times. First you have to land the space craft perfectly or you die (which killed me a lot). When you land if you have to pick up guys standing by holding down when you are above them. Don’t go too slow though or they will disappear. The more you have, the more points you will have at the end of the level. I never got that far, however.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before you try landing the ship for the first time.
**Crystal Castles (G/G/G) (x2)
Points Buster: Go to the back left corner, behind the castle thing and jump. This will give you 140,000 points and enough for the gold.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Get to the 4th level and kill the caterpillar things and the witch. To kill the caterpillars, wait until their heads are red and run into them. To kill the witch just get the hat and run into her. Sit inside the castle so the bees can’t reach you and turbo an unused button.
This will require 2 plays for (G/G/G).
**Dolphin (G/G/G)
Points Buster: Go to the top of the screen to jump over the sea horses. You know they are coming because the current arrow will disappear right before. Look out for the seagull above and grab it whenever you can because that allows you to kill the squid chasing you. Practice this in the demo.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo any unused button before you start, after you die, or after you kill the squid. Personally I got enough points for points buster, then starting turboing. After every kill or death, the game won’t start again until you press ‘A’. If you don’t think you can get points, just get your Survivalist/Time Spender first.
**Finalizer (G/B/-)
Points Buster: I got lucky and picked up a “Crash” power up. This allows you to fly around and get points by crashing into everything (it gives you a ton of points too). I wasn’t exactly sure how I got it but I shot that metal tube thing that shows up every so often. I think shooting it changes it from a power up that goes on your guy to various other power ups. Not 100% sure but that’s what happened to me.
Survivalist/Time Spender: I didn’t last very long, time spender definitely not possible in one play. Gold survivalist might be possible if you’re better than me. Wouldn’t suggest this one for easy points.
**Galactic Warriors (G/G/-)
Points Buster: Choose the left guy and block every shot from the enemy, very easy.
Survivalist/Points Buster: You should get survivalist when getting Points Buster, Time Spender not possible in single play.
**Gravitar (Arcade) (G/G/S)
Points Buster: Try to get into orbit around the sun in the first area (practice in the demo) and just shoot at the two ships that respawn.
Survivalist/Time Spender: If you get into a good orbit Survivalist is pretty easy. I would have gotten gold Time Spender but I ran out of fuel (I had a little trouble with the orbit at first).
**H.E.R.O (S/G/G) (x3)
Points Buster: Just follow a video online that shows the route to take. Gold is possible if you are good, but I’m not and had some stupid deaths. Otherwise, pretty easy points buster.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just turbo an unused button at the start of the level and don’t move. My controller sometimes would think it moved slightly (something in the wiring a little messed up? I’m not sure, it has always done this.) so I had to keep completing levels, or I would die. I had to do this one three times because the first time I kept moving then would try to complete the level but die from blowing myself up (don’t push down unless your by a wall!). The second time I just got Time Spender (still had some stupid deaths when I went for points) and third I finally got my points.
**Iron Horse (S/G/-)
Points Buster: Choose punch as your weapon. Punch the three waves of guys at the start, and then collect the gold bag near the bunk beds. You can then position your guy next to the bunk beds and facing out. One guy will come from the left and two from the right; if you keep punching they won’t be able to get you, however. When the time runs out you will die, just repeat this for all your lives. I was 1,000 points off gold so make sure to get everyone in the beginning.
Survivalist/Time Spender: You will get Survivalist while getting points. Time Spender is not possible in a single play.
**Kabobber (B/G/G)
Points Buster: Demo is a lot easier then the real game. I didn’t really get the game, just try to catch the pink blob thing without losing all your blobs.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just turbo an unused button before starting the game.
**Kaboom! (-/G/G)
Points Buster: Good luck, controls are terrible and Bronze requires a lot of points.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just turbo anything but ‘A’.
**Laser Blast (G/G/B) (x4)
Points Buster: Start under the ten and hundreds place on the score and shoot the first laser. Quickly move to the second one and shoot, followed by the third. If you do it fast enough you shouldn’t die and will build up a lot of extra lives. Just keep doing that over and over. I demoed this game years ago so I didn’t have a chance to practice and kept dying, that’s why it took my so many tries.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just keep doing the method outlined in Points Buster for as long as you want. I only needed 12 points to get within 5 points of level 20, so there was no reason for me to get Gold Time Spender. Getting 3 Golds in one play is definitely possible though.
**Lunar Lander (G/G/G) (Owned)
Points Buster: Just try to land in the 5x zones for maximum points.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Another game I bought so I’m not exactly sure what can be done in a single play.
**Night Stalker (B/G/G)
Points Buster: Try to kill the robot things right as they spawn. I found it hard to get the gun, kill the robot wandering, and then get down near to spawn to kill it before started moving around again. I managed to get Bronze but it may be possible to get more if you are better than me.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Simply turbo an unused button while in the cage. Nothing will be able to get you.
**Oink! (B/G/G)
Points Buster: I thought this game was pretty hard for points. Just move as fast as you can when placing the bricks. I managed enough points for Bronze.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before you start.
**Pinball (-/G/G)
Points Buster: It is all down to luck for points, I didn’t get enough for a medal.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before launching the ball
**Pitfall! (G/G/G) (Owned)
Points Buster: Another game I bought. I played this a long time before I started going for level 20, I think I just went left.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just sit there and don’t move. The game has a 20min time limit so I don’t think Time Spender is possible in one play.
**Pooyan (S/B/-)
Points Buster: Just shoot the wolves as fast as you can. I found if you pick up the red bomb thing (at the very top of the rope) and throw it into the pack of wolves that show up sometimes, you will get a lot of points. I would use that bomb whenever possible because I found it easier than trying to shoot.
Survivalist/Points Buster: All depends on your skill. I kept getting shot by the wolves so I
didn’t last very long. It is definitely possible to get a better medal than me.
**River Raid (B/G/G)
Points Buster: Hold back when you are flying and it should slow you down. Just take your time and shoot as much as you can. Hopefully you can get enough points for a medal.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before you take off.
**River Raid 2 (B/G/G)
Points Buster: A little harder then RR 1 but still possible. I held back on the stick, which changes your weapon to a torpedo thing (it kills boats/stuff on the ground) then I just shot at the grey boats, avoiding the planes. Make sure to shoot the first bridge as well, which gives you a good amount of points. I wasn’t sure how to refuel but I managed a bronze before I ran out of lives.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just turbo an unused button before you take off.
**Seaquest (S/G/G)
Points Buster: You have to save six of the divers and bring them to the surface to complete a level. Take your time and shoot the ships/shark things before grabbing the divers. Make sure to surface if you are almost out of oxygen. With some practice a medal should be possible (I got about 1,000 points over Silver).
Survivalist/Time Spender: Just turbo an unused button while on the surface on the first level. Nothing can kill you if you don’t go down.
**Shark! Shark! (B/S/-)
Points Buster: Practice killing the shark in the demo. You can do this by biting its tail a couple times. I had bad luck this run and died a bunch.
Time Spender/Survivalist: All depends on your skill; if you can build up a lot of lives by killing the shark then you can last a lot longer than I did.
**Super Breakout (Arcade) (B/G/G)
Points Buster: Press ‘B’ when you start to change the game mode. This makes the bottom blocks (think they were green) the 3 points each. I was able to get Bronze but if you have a good run, Gold may be possible.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before launching the ball.
**Super Breakout (2600) (-/G/G)
Points Buster: Good luck, controls are horrible and the points are too high to even get Bronze.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before launching the ball.
**Thunder Castle (G/G/G)
Points Buster: Run around avoiding the dragon and collecting gold pieces. Avoid the comb looking one though! Took me around 45mins to get the 25,000 needed.
Survivalist/Time Spender: After you get your points make your way to the bottom right corner. I found those bat things went down there pretty often. If you get a bat it causes the dragon to run away from you. Just sit down there, collecting bats as they come for as long as you want.
**Tutankham (-/G/G)
Points Buster: Game was too hard for me. You can follow a video if you really want to try.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Go through the first portal thing on the first level and go to the bottom left. One guy will attack you, just shoot him and you can stand there for as long as you want.
**Video Pinball (S/G/G)
Points Buster: Like Pinball, points are random. I had a good run and managed Silver.
Survivalist/Time Spender: Turbo an unused button before launching the ball.
This is a self-explaining achievement... You must reach lvl 20 on your profile in order for this achievement to unlock...
You unlock this achievement by playing arcades in the gameroom halls. In order to unlock achievements and earn medals you MUST purchase the game for 240 MS Points or a 1 time play session for 40 MS Points.
Everytime you play an arcade, you will probably get medals, most of them that you will unlock even when you die in level 2 of a game are the bronze survival and score medals.
Each bronze medal will award you with 2 points, so by playing 1 game you will probably earn 4 points.
EDIT: According to below comments, the loading screen gives shows hints & tips, here it's stated that you need 20 points to gain a lvl.
have fun and enjoy!
If you are trying to work on this now (spring 2019), the servers have shut down so there is no ranked mode and thus no survivalist and score medals (and hence the discontinued flags for many achs). This means that time spender is the only way you can earn medals. In theory, you can still get the level medals with enough spare time, but it'll take a loooong time if you aren't already close.
You gain levels by obtaining medals. To reach a new level, you need 20 points from medals, and each cabinet has 3 medals each. Each medal can be awarded by meeting certain criteria to reach either a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal. Just earn enough medal points to go to the next level.
  • Gold Medal = 5 points
  • Silver Medal = 3 points
  • Bronze Medal = 2 points
