How to unlock the It's All About the Loot! achievement in Gears of War 3 - Definitive Guide

To earn this achievement you have to complete 10 challenge waves in Horde mode.

This can't be done solo in private matches - you must play either online or with a second controller.

You'll earn a challenge wave for every 3 consecutive waves no team member is killed (So all survive waves 1-3 and the 4th will be a challenge wave, for example).

Challenges are things like: kill x enemies with the chainsaw/retro bayonet, Kill x flamers by shooting their packs, kill x enemies with headshots or complete the wave within a time limit. The challenge will be clearly visible on the left hand side of the screen.

Edit: (Thanks to Curtieson - if you miss the challenge details as they pop up, just press LB to bring up the Tac view during the wave and you can review the challenge requirements)

This doesn't have to be done all in one session so you should earn this over time in horde mode.

Sometimes the little icon didn't make sense to me, I found out if you didn't catch watch it said, you can press LB to enter the VSOR mode...or whatever it is called...and it will have the description there also.

Is it possible to just go through the first three waves then do the challenge wave, then exit out and do it again?

@ Almighty - Yeah that should work just fine

@Curtieson - Good tip, I'll add it to the solution

@NitrousSpeed: I've noticed that challenges done solo in private matches don't count perhaps that is what is happening to you.

@NManders. Yes this is true and annoying, because online some people never bother with the extra objectives!!!

so this has to be done in a open match - not private?

My husband and I did it on private horde and got the cheevo. We don't play public, so it was either a glitch or you can get this in private.

Yeah, you can't get it alone in private matches, it has to be with a second controller or online

Add to the guide that you must play it public or with a second controller. I was fooled by that and wasted an hour of my life.

Really, update the guide saying you cannot do it solo. I've done juste one solo and I planned to do a little bit each day. I'm glad I can stop right now.

Definitely need a second controller if you are doing private.

Guide has pretty much everything covered, but one thing I'd like to add is if you're just playing with a second controller plugged in like I do, if you as the main profile die during the challenge wave but take over the second controller and complete the objective, you'll still get redit towards the medal.

I played alone in 2013 with the last update applied in private and got a challenge (7 head shots) after finishing 7 level and surviving. Maybe this has changed now...

If you are doing this solo, is it possible to keep the "second controller" character alive for 3 rounds? I've only played this mode once, so my memories of level 32 are clear, but my memories of levels 1 through 3 are not.

PS. Good tip Psycho Joe! How hard was it to keep your second controller alive?

I may be a little late to the party, but thought I'd add this: If you fail 2 in a row, your 3rd attempt can be a bonus wave as well. I had a bonus wave 2 waves in a row because I was intentionally failing waves in between bonus waves.

To add, you need the medal 'Phat Loot' which cant be earned Solo (No medals can be) so you need at least one other person (Or a second controller)

ok.. grab a mate over xbox live or plug in a second controller to make it faster.. If you aint got those two factors, search online for matches.

To get this, you need to pass 3 waves without failing, then it will present you with a wave challenge, these can vary from killing x enimies to completing the wave in a time limit to no players to die in that round.
This is clearly visible in the top left corner of ur screen. If you play horde alot, then this will be no problem for you. You should get this pretty fast, really easy onyx medal..

Doesnt need to be done in one session.
happy hunting
