You need 27,125 experience to get to level 10. This should come very easily and quickly. Just playing through the campaign will get you most of the way there. King of the hill is usually the fastest way to get exp. There is a good experience calculator here: http://www.gow3exp.com/calculator

I just got this today, first time I have played the game. I joined a game with a friend who was at level 17 and it gave me this and level 5 straight away. It actually put me on level 11. After one wave of Horde (the only thing I've played so far) his level jumped to 20. Either the achievement is glitchy or they have added something to boost new players as the game is quite old.
It actually says I have entered 29 "Gears events" too, I have no idea what a Gears event is!

As mentioned in the previous guide, you need 27,125 total experience for level 10. My suggestion would be to play Horde with either online people, or plug a second controller in and play by yourself, the ribbons you can get in Horde can easily make your first few levels fly by!
Versus matches are also a great way to get it, so you should be popping this one in no time.

Not sure why, I played this first on backwards compatibility and it unlocked automatically right when the first time I booted the game up.

This achievement is earned by reaching level 10 as your ranking status.
For this achievement much for XP you're able to take advantage of any gametypes for earning XP towards your level 10 ranking.
-Campaign with up to 4 friends
-Online versus, or even private versus
-Playing Horde/Beast Mode will also earn you XP toward level 5.
UPDATE: As of November 18th 2011 EPIC has granted anyone who has/hasn't started Gears of War 3 an automatic 29/30 Event Matches played. And with XP being earned at 5, 10, and 20 events you'll already have earned XP to reach level 11 from starting the game. And once you've started a match the game will register you for your 30th Event match. This will you the following achievements:
Level 5
Level 10
And once the match has been completed
Award Winning Tactics (Earn an Onyx Medal)
Socialite (30 Events played, Onyx Medal)
Level 15
However for any of these methods you'll be able to reach level 10 and earn this 10G achievement!
The following video is of my first Team Deathmatch game where the 29/30 Events played update is displayed.
