How to unlock the Inconceivable! achievement in Gears of War 4 - Definitive Guide

"Inconceivable takes a more Survival based twist, giving you less health than Insane difficulty but also less health to your enemies. That’s because surviving on Inconceivable is all about effectiveness - weapons and crates drop significantly less ammunition, so you’ll have to make every shot count with whatever pickups you can find on the battlefield.
Unlock Inconceivable Difficulty for Campaign by beating the Campaign on Insane."

There's two ways to go about this
Method 1: Simply playing it legit. This would be extremely difficult and a challenge id imagine only few would attempt and have the patience to complete.

Method 2: The same casual coop method can be used here as well. When playing coop one person can choose their difficulty as casual and the other person can play on Inconceivable. This way the person on casual can go do all the work while the other person sits back and stays safe. Doing this will of course mean you have to run through the campaign another time where you switch roles with your partner so you can both get the achievement but you'll end up spending less time then doing it on Inconceivable only.
Helpful Tip: Have the Host choose casual, and the second player choose Inconceivable when the game loads up. (This is just a helpful tip for one part of the motorcycle section in Act II. More info below)
Note: Can be done in split screen

Whichever way you choose i will do my best to provide help to make things easier. If using the coop method then you shouldn't have too much trouble but this may help you on some of the difficult parts.
Tips
General:
-Since you would've had to have done Insane already it goes without saying that you should know how to take it slow and take care of all the enemies before moving on
-Since ammo is scarce you'll probably have to be picking up weapons constantly however if you run out of ammo you can trade it to one of your AI teammates and they will reload the clip.

Prologue:
-You can grab the Despicable You Freeze gun. it only has 12 ammo but may help (cant be done with coop method)

-In coop when you get to the part where there is a cutscene of a mortar coming at you we had the issue where it would kill the person on Inconceivable without giving them the chance to move. However, The checkpoint reloads and you'll already be dead but luckily the ai takes over your character and your partner can complete the section.

Act II:
- In Chapter 2 Dom's Toms grenades can be earned by shooting all plant pots in the greenhouse.

-In coop its best to have the host be the one to choose casual and the other person change their difficulty to Inconceivable. This is helpful only for the motorcycle section. When the helicopter is shooting at you he mainly focuses on the one upfront which is always the host. We found that Its much easier to dodge the bullets and missiles if in the back because when you're up front on Inconceivable the helicopter bullets and missiles are much harder to dodge.
-However, if you already have the host being the one on Inconceivable we found the best way to get past it was have the person in back who is on casual stay on the right the whole time not moving much unless they have to, then the host on Inconceivable stay on the left and middle dodging everything. By having the casual player not really move a lot it seemed to take some of the helicopters attention away from the player up front.
-For extra help on this ending section check out Frizbog's comment posted here:

Act III:
-In Chapter 2 you can get the Memento Mori:
Shoot the Gravestones marked MA, R, I, A.
"You can play until you get to the graveyard. Exit the game then when you load in have the second player choose Insane. All you need to do is throw a Grenade, shoot Ma, then take cover behind the long rock to the left. From here shoot r,i,a causing all enemies to despawn. I didn't fire a single shot at the enemies and I did it with 2 controllers."
Thanks to HolyHalfDead for the info. Note: Kexol says you should make sure you shoot them with your main account and not the guest.

-When you enter the circular room a pouncer will appear. after taking it out juvies will drop down. they all drop from the same spot so make sure the inconceivable player is on the opposite side of the room to give you space. Once you or your coop partner clear them out go to the other side as the next set of juvies will drop down from there. Lastly another pouncer will spawn that you'll have to deal with.
-In coop, After the "horde" type defend section you'll have to run uphill past enemies to press a button. only one person needs to do it so have the person on casual run to press it while you stay back.

Act IV:
-On the Swarmack boss fight have the person on inconceivable go up to the stairs where the buttons are and stay at the end behind cover. This will make it easier to kill the juvies coming up to attack you while protecting you from the Swarmack shots while the person on casual does everything.

Act V:
-For the final boss fight you have to learn the right timing to be able to dodge the shots. In coop, have one person all the way on the left and the other on the right. That way you only have to dodge one of the tentacle shots and not both as only one goes for each player by doing this.

These are what we found to be the most difficult sections of the game and some tips to get through them all, though you probably could've managed on your own as you can die as much as you want here. If you have any other tips to add or questions in general just leave a comment so i can update the solution.
Good Luck.

also i think maybe we were talking about different points sorry. i was referring to the end of the first section of the prologue. you have to defend the area where there is a turret in front of you to use. afterwards a cutscene occurs where a mortar comes straight for you and you have to run across the bridge but the cutscene mortar instantly kills you. (in coop)
It seems maybe you were talking about even before that perhaps the very beginning the moment the game starts and you take control.

Nothing on that stupid lightning, guide is a waste of my time
Posted by Arador on 13 Jul at 05:32
The lightning parts are tough but there's also not much to say about it. I can't just say run left then right as there's no guaranteed path. So the only thing I can say is to be careful, take it slow and don't be afraid to backtrack if you see one coming in your direction. You can try not going into cover so you're always free to move out the way. Other than that this isn't iron man so there's no harm in dying and trying again. Idk what else you are expecting but there's not much else to help except for experiencing it yourself and getting through it.

The lightning parts are easy, I don't know why everyone finds them so difficult - once you realize that their patterns aren't random, i.e that the lightning bolts move in the exact same directions and take the exact same paths every time, it becomes a game of trial and error. Just make your way through the lightning until you die, remember the path you took, take it again, when you get to the point where you died go in the opposite direction. Go a little further until you die again, rinse and repeat and you'll get a little closer to the end each time.

I died about 50 times doing the lightning on Insane until I noticed the pattern was always the same and not randomly generated - I got through it in TWO more attempts after discovering this.

On Hardcore just pause and quit before the death screen comes up.

I did the campaign on Insane Solo, I'm at Act 3 Chapter 5 on Inconceivable Solo right now.

Inconceivable is way, way easier than Insane. It's still tough but not as tough as Insane. You have less health, yes, but so do the enemies - so all you need to do is play very defensively, don't go for a shot until you're sure no enemy is looking at you. It's also not One-Hit-Kill like everyone keeps saying, you can take one hit most of the time.

Some parts are harder than Insane but most parts are easier. If I was doing Insane I'd still be on Act 1 by now. It kind of depresses me the way everyone opts for the Co-Op cheat - it really isn't that hard to get either Insane or Inconceivable on Solo, and I'm not just saying that to try and sound like some badass hardcore gamer - I'm average at Gears, but people don't even give Solo a chance.

If there's anyone trying to do inconceivable solo and having trouble with the end of Act 2, here are my tips (in the spoiler tag because they are lengthy):

No because you need to do insane to unlock inconcievable

Did that player 2 ever beat the campaign on insane first? That's the only thing I can think of as u have to beat insane to unlock inconcievable

I do know that you can get to act 3.2 in coop, then have the casual player leave/ reload the campaign so u both can choose insane+ so you can then get the memento mori. Then they can join back/ you can reload campaign to switch the difficulties back. And actually it's also worth noting the Prologue you play as different characters so the weapons won't be the same so it probably won't work.

The second thing you mentioned is what I was referring to.

So coop exploit prologue - 3.1
3.2 "properly" to get momento mori
3.3 onwards coop exploit, but now with memento mori

Lol that part is so stupid. Are you playing coop or solo? As I noted, when I played coop I instantly died but when the checkpoint reloaded I was already dead but it allowed my partner to finish it. This happened both times we played the campaign. I saw someone say in solo your invincible during this part. If that's not true then it's impossible to do that part solo. There's no way to dodge the mortar

I'm not able to complete the campaign at any difficulty, from easy to inconceivable. This appen in solo and co-op at the last checkpoint act 5.4 (final boss fight).
Actually my chapters counter(inconceivable) is lock at 23/24.
Any tips?
Please share your experience. .. i dnt know if I can face a run on ironman with that risk....

@avarat, what glitch have you encountered?

i can't complete the campain (i cnt see the end credits at any difficulties)... if i'm in co-op i'm always disconnected .. if i'm hosting (solo and co-op) .. same story ... no end credits (after the last cinematic) .. now i'll try on my PC with play anywhere .. angry

Wow thats really weird. Youve obviously completed it on insane so you've had it work before, Idk why it would glitch on u. Haven't heard that problem before. Maybe try selecting "Load" instead of "continue" when selecting campaign. If not then try going to chapter select and choosing Act 5.3 and going from there. It won't be the same continued save but As long as you did every section on Inconcievable it should unlock. If that doesn't work or you already tried idk man. The chapter select should work tho cuz it'd be a new save so it won't be glitched like your other save.

why can't I select my co op buddy to be inconceivable difficulty? trying to do the act 2 chapter 4 helicopter section and the inconveicable player as player 1 seems to die every time, but if I load the inconcerivable player as p2, it wont let me select anything but insane.

You completely deleted your saves from everywhere, not just your console? If so then Yeah I'd assume so unfortunately. Obviously check if it lets you do inconcievable and if the option isn't there then yeah you'll have to do it again sadly.

Just grabbed Memento Mori in co-op. You can play until you get to the graveyard. Exit the game then when you load in have the second player choose Insane. All they need to do is throw a Grenade, shoot Ma, then take cover behind the long rock to the left. From here they can shoot r,i,a causing all enemies to despawn. Don't try to do the memento mori Easter egg with your guest. It will only work with your main account. I didn't realize this until after trying multiple times with my second account.

I would use the Momento Mori in places where there are 2 Pouncers. This ensures that all of your ammo gets used, as if you only save the shots for the bosses, you will still have bullets left in the chamber, so shooting 1 Pouncer when there is 2 present, makes life so much easier, and saves you ammo for the regular enemies.

Not too hard, just time consuming. If you can remember where the boss fights start and have explosives, this should be a cinch. Finishing up this cheevo today.

Sure lots of people resort to the coop cheat because they think it's impossible but you have to remember that its also to just get it done quicker. I already played the campaign twice before this achievement and knew I'd have to play it another 2 more times to use the coop method for hardcore Ironman. With so many times playing campaign I'd rather get it done asap than spend time on one of the multiple campaign runs u have to do even tho like u said it's not the hardest thing in the world

Just to add, using the Momento Mori on the Swarmack is the funniest thing you will ever do, I saved enough ammo for it to last the entire playthrough and it’s just the best

Yeah I’m unsure what to suggest sorry. Have you looked at the chapter select and seen if each chapter shows you’ve beat on insane with the insane symbol? I’d imagine so since it gave you credit but worth checking. Maybe try replaying an easy chapter on insane or also messaging slithvampiro since it looks like he got it fixed for him.

Is this supposed to track on the achievement tracker? I'm doing as suggested with the host playing on casual and me joining on inconceivable. In my war journal it says I have done 1 chapter on the difficulty but the achievement tracker on the console hasn't moved along. Is that normal?

This was so long ago so I'm not sure which obviously isn't helpful but I Imagine that's normal. As long as it's tracking in game then it should unlock fine once complete.

@Andrew C TTV … I’ve never noticed a tracker for the insane run, so I would assume the inconceivable run is the same… it pops at the end once every chapter is registered.

@ikilledbecka … Did you replay those missions solo, or coop, then rebooted the game? I’ve discovered Act 4-5 has done this to me and I really don’t wanna fight an effin swarmak on insane.

Can you give your opinion on this as a way to maybe get the Memento Mori Boltok?

What about if you played Act 3 Chapter 2 "legit" either solo or coop, then once you have it the second person switches to casual? And then afterwards did Prologue to 3-1?
0
0
By MakeMeACoffee on 09 Jun 2017 11:45
I'm not sure that would work. Can u even chapter select act 3-2 then start the game from the beginning with it all being the same save? If you can then i suppose itd work. However if your doing the coop method you dont really need the memento mori for the Prologue through Act 2 cuz you only face normal enemies and the casual player can take them all out easily.

To add to any issues for anyone who tries to complete it like I did - where you try to complete the game in solo but ask a buddy to hop on for help in certain section. Makes sure that you do not complete the chapter. As i have completed the full campaign last night but the achievement did not pop - what i think has happened due to looking at the highest difficulty completed on each act, Act 5 seems to be the issue. This is when I had a buddy hop on. I completed chapters 1 and 3 in solo but chapters 2 and 4 in co-op. Every chapter states that it is complete on inconceivable but, the act 5 highest difficulty completed is only what i had complete prior.
So, what i am suggesting is that if you complete a chapter in the game in co-op but the rest in solo play, you will need to try complete that full act in co-op or complete the chapter up to the point when you know the chapter ends and then have your buddy exit to the main menus while you finish off the chapter. I will be completing the full last act in co-op first and i will let everyone know here in another comment if that'll work mixing it between co-op and solo for the full acts.

easy way for Inconceivable! and Momma Said I Can't Die achievements with coop buddy in one run

1. Host plays on inconceivable, second player plays on casual
2. On the end of the chapter second player leaves, host can pause the game but it is not necessary but it helps in some of chapters
3. Second player come back but now he takes inconceivable difficult
4. When you complete the chapter it counts on inconceivable difficult for both players
5. Repeat with all chapters
6. On the end of the game both players get Inconceivable! achievement
7. When you restart the game all your progress is copy from coop to solo(nice glitch),
you can check it on the markers on the chapter select screen
8. Now only you need it is complete any chapter on inconceivable solo(3.1 is the best because it is without enemies)
9. When you do this you get Momma Said I Can't Die achievement

Most of chapters have easy places to switch difficulties

I used this method with my friend Mastah Ghost and we got both achievements without any problems.

If you have a question send me a message

Sorry for my english :P

Just did this with my friend. I was on Insane difficulty[host] and he was on Casual until the end of every chapter, he quit and rejoined under Inconceivable. We both got ticks/progress towards our "Don't kill with the Gnasher or Lancer" but at the end of the playthrough none of his chapters said they were completed on Inconceivable, even after a solo chapter and a app reset....

The trophy is bugged, but it’s not clear how... and so there are a couple of options for how to complete the game in this mode and take the trophy
1) play solo, which will cause a lot of problems, a lot of time, and a lot of nerves.
2) you play at an unbearable level, take with you (any person from your friends, in terms of the one with whom you play online, or take with you a person who lives with you and knows how to play a little) then the task is this at the beginning of the game "prologue you appear on a split screen or if a friend is playing with you from his console, he will have a choice of level and an option for who he wants to play for, he will choose a low level of the game, then you sit in the corner and he knocks down everyone, including bosses, and passes difficult places, as if for you, you just stalemate behind him, and so on until the end of the game (of course, you can leave the game stalemate to continue, the main thing is that you have a person with you who plays at an easy level) and yes, I said about the bugged trophy, I meant that not all chapters can be counted if you chose the 2nd swarm option, so it’s better to check each chapter (whether your completion of the level was counted) this can be done if you go to the “single or joint game menu and select by chapters and acts) there will be icons drawn there, you’ll figure it out I think there it’s not difficult to understand..good luck in your passage and good luck to you with the last boss, which took about 3 hours of play in solo..+ / hour in co-op, since my passage together with a partner who played on an easy level did not count.. I was sweating, so I advise you to be patient.. after this passage you can take on the trophy “LEGEND OF SULFUR” high difficulty and persistence, because after such a level the unbearable, high level will seem like a fairy tale.
