How to unlock the Play The Mode, Not The Player achievement in Gears of War 4 - Definitive Guide

Not a solution. I simply offer a way for you to track your progress.
You need to capture the ring 200 times, and break the ring 100 times.
You're able to do it in all Vs. modes including Public vs. AI
I've added it to my tracker so you can follow your progression.

You can also check your war journal before you start to see how many breaks/caps you currently have.

Best thing about this solution is that I hadn’t looked at your tracker in a while and now see that I can get another Forza Horizon 2 achievement because I now know what class championships I need! Thanks

You can easily rack up ring captures in co-op vs AI But the main problem is actually breaking the ring since the randoms on you’re team constantly keep killing the enemies before they even get a chance to capture the ring! It’s so annoying..

Co-op versus AI is painful to do for this achievement. If anyone remembers ring boosting in Gears 2...it's like that. Should take you 2 matches max for everyone to get this achievement in the competitive warm-up playlist with (2) full parties.

Is this/the new achievements retroactive or no? Not being political, just need to know

This achievement is not retroactive. The execution achievement is retroactive, but you need to do the knife execution again even if you did it previously.

This tracker is great. Also, these diamond ranked idiots in casual co-op vs AI are really annoying...

You need to get 200 ring captures and 100 ring breaks in a public match.
This can be done in king of the hill, escalation. At the time of launch for this patch it can also be done in Blitz.

Apart from boosting it with a full lobby (you'll need 6 xboxes and 10 controllers), your best options are:

For break play blitz while you can. Breaks do NOT show up on scoreboard in match, but they DO count towards achievement. Instant captures make this very fast. Even without cooperation from anyone on either team it isn’t hard to get 10-15 per round. Best way is to run/roll through ring and out the other side, get in cover/heal then do it again. You can sometimes get four or five breaks in a row depending on how effectively they are defending it. Worst case you can usually get one suicide break, then respawn and repeat. You can’t farm ring captures by capturing it and leaving it though, I’m guessing that an enemy needs to capture in between.

For captures coop vs AI is probably your best bet but will work better if your team is cooperating with you. Capture the ring then leave and back up a bit so the AI will break it, then recapture.

If you do manage to get a boost going, blitz would be your best bet, failing that KoTH. It would probably take you all of half an hour once you get together. If you don’t know how to ring boost, refer to the solutions for gears 2. Party like it’s 2008!

Awesome solution. The negative votes are reflective of a toxic subculture on this site for many many fantastic solutions like this one. I see it too often here sadly.

My 2 cence is go for breaks first. Only play for breaks. Caps are very easy to get solo on co op vs AI casual. Get friends to help lock in a lobby so randoms do not kill farm all the bots and make it painful. On Co Op casual 1 random can come in and just farm kills and ruin the chance for getting ANY breaks, also the bots do not go for the hill often enough on casual so as many others have said play vs normal bots.

Get 200 ring captures and 100 ring breaks in King of the Hill or Escalation (Public Versus Only).

Pretty sure you don't have to kill anyone to get a break. If the enemy have the ring you just have to get into it to break it.

Ok. It defo works as I put the tracker up on my screen. Nothing shows on score board though.

I don’t think you have to kill them. Just stand in the ring long enough for it to go neutral colour.

I’m now very good at rolling into a ring, getting it to go neutral and then having my head blown off.

I got about 90 of my break in blitz, you definitely can. It will not show on scoreboard however, but does count toward achievement.

I added clarification to solution that it doesn’t show on scoreboard, also xarjenrobben10x is correct, you just run/roll through and it breaks, rinse/repeat.

Do not attempt to boost this achievement or you will be permanently banned from playing Gears 4 online, including Horde.

By far this has to be the quickest way for this achievement! Captures are extremely easy and ring breaks kinda do take a while but at least you get a few of them in a match. Overall way more better than risking it to boost..

Playing escalation works way better. You are guaranteed 1 ring cap per round minimum if you run to the closest one at the start of a round, that's minimum 7 per match guaranteed. On an average game of escalation I have been getting around 20 captures and 10-15 breaks.

I know it's probably futile, but anyone who has voted negative care to shed some light on the issues? I cover boosting/doing it legitimately, and they both work.

@Yurgi: Only problem is you will have found and played the match of blitz before you even get INTO an escalation match.

Co-op vs AI with Normal difficulty bots works well, especially if you have been saving the 5000 kills achievement til last. Casual bots don't run & aren't aggressive enough.

Competitive warmup is where you wanna boost this. It's not ranked so you won't get banned and we got it done in 2 games so it really doesn't take long.

What actually counts as a break? I saw the ring showing "break", roll in and out - sometimes they count, sometimes they don't. Must an enemy be in the ring when you roll in and out? I know for sure it doesn't count if you kill the enemies guarding it, because it'd become a capture.

I already have 200 captures without even trying, but the breaks are getting harder to come by.

Yes, waiting for the "red" to fill up, and the opponent's points to start counting worked for me. Guaranteed break once these conditions are met. Once I got the trick, it was easy. Canals is the easiest map to do this. I got on average 10 -12 breaks per session.

I played a game of Blitz. Score was pretty close. Scoreboard at the end had no players with a single ring break?

What counts as a ring break in Blitz?

If you are playing blitz that will work but if it is normal KOTH I think the important thing is it needs to be fully captured before you make it neutral. Otherwise it won’t be a break. I’m not sure about it not counting if you kill them first. If that’s not working for you obviously don’t waste time on it, but I would assume it would count as a break AND a capture (assuming it starts out under enemy control).

The rolling in and out thing was mostly about letting them recapture it as quickly as possible so you can break it again. If you kill them they obviously can’t recap and you will get just the one break.
